  • PERFEITA <3

  • I really like this rendition because of the "la la la" part. There is something about it that gives me a chill.

  • love her voice. i think that the one at mixers is good too. oh, and the other one at keyboards is also amazing.

  • Adorable. She reminds me of Bjork

  • Raw talent! One in a million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • just the nerves of the firt time.. she´s great!!

  • Such an outstanding voice, LOVE this song and can't believe I heard it this year for the first time!!

  • Bloody brilliant!

  • @jstandsforlove Apparently she didn't. She does not look happy with her performance, but it sounds beautiful. If she can do better than this...WOW!

  • And the boys in the band went whoa!

  • i am the only one who prefers this live a hundred times over the album version?

  • @jstandsforlove I prefer all of it live!!

  • @jstandsforlove No you are not...

  • She is an amazing artist. Such amazing music!

  • She is playing a Very Large Zimbabwe's mbira and 1:09 of the song. I have never seen one so big and I Want one Too :)

  • @Muzacplayer Yeah this mbira is pretty big.

  • Yes, my sweet, you ARE struggling. But I'll always love you. /obsessed/

  • Her Sound is TIMELESS!!!! And what is she Playin @ 1:09 I want ONE GAAHH

  • Compared to Hide and Seek, and the live a capella version of Just For Now (hosted by Zach Braff), this was a considerably weaker performance (though still an original and good number). If she had done the a capella Just For Now, i would think Paul and David would be rendered speechless for a while.

  • Personally, I don't like this version as much as the original, buuut maybe that's just me. I'm not saying it's not good! It is good! Don't get me wrong, kay? I adore Imogen Heap and her music, I'm only saying I'm not -as- fond of this live version. <:

  • everytime i watch this im as amazed as i was the first time round. she is TOO good!

  • ..........beautiful ^_-,

  • I love Imogen Heap!

And her little dance when she breaks into the chorus :D

  • Dude & 1-man band...Dave knows...

  • I knew she was good but I didn't know that she was this Good!

  • This always has been my favorite ! :p

  • A woman of great versatility !!!!

  • A woman with great versatility!!!!

  • kereeennn

  • I hardly think it's pretentious. It's just what's in the music.

  • F.U ..cK off ! Maybe she has stage fright you dumbass! You try doing all those things! It's called playing live ... oh oh oh... maybe you want to see AKON doing playback JEES ! Critics who invented you anyway ? Stupidity and boredom ... the feeling of being mediocre ! Dumbass!

  • @starshipvelcrp you're totally missing the point.

she's a one woman artist, she does it all herself & that's just how it it works; exactly the same as her cds. as for how she looks, its called image. you should support the artists you like enough to buy their music, instead of posting un-informed comments on the internet that make you look like a fool. enjoy your cds =)

  • what's that thing she plays during the chorus?

  • Its an Array Mbira.... pretty cool instrument :)

  • really amazing! (=

  • She's amazing- but she definitely seems nervous in this one- or something is up. Her voice is wavering and choked up. Singing alone on national TV can do that to you. She sounded great in another live performance I saw online.

  • @rubbus yeah i was thinking the same thing....i think letterman shook her up by reminding everyone that this was her network tv debut. I think she just wants it to be over and done.

  • she i awesome i mean she does EVERYTHING alone guys do that urself and then flame lol i mean there are things u cant do alone what she did in her songs on the cd like more voices more sound etc .. i mean how can u tell she sucks when she fucking all alone and all live .. i mean tell em one fucking actor who does that? nearly all playback or band bitches!

  • @MrFuzzwah If you cant respect her music and fucking amazing talents

then i have two words for you

    Piss. Off.

  • she's not nervous...she does live acts since 1996....this is nothing^^

  • at first she seemed a bit nervous

  • i would be also

  • She is great, and I feel for her. She seemed very restrained, it seems like she is holding back. I think most of it is probably due to nervousness as being on the David Letterman show would be freaking nerve racking.

    Good video

  • Aww i looove her if we met we would just click im just like her we would be bff and i thinnk she is the only singer who doesn't need a recording studio and sounds FANTASTIC in concert!!

  • @fanofmyphone2014 Immi is great! I have tickets for Feb 2010 :)

Dido sounds fantastic live too :)

  • wat?!! TAKE ME WITH YOU

  • shes is sooo cute. i love her uniqueness. something different and we should all know she is awesome! :D

  • that lalala la la part was f-in fanstastic

  • she is AWESOME!

  • This video does her no justice. I mean its very good...but this just does her no justice.

  • @holverson lol yea i agree....she is a beast but uh

  • playing instruments, DJing and singing?! Whhhhhaaaat?! Craziness! Awesome

  • @Pinkin1211 she's brilliant but with this kinda equipment a def man could make at least 'decent' song

  • Anyone who can trigger MIDI, play synth, sing that well, and look so beautiful doing it all is a Musical Goddess!

  • this makes me want to watch hide and seek live see how it sounds. love imogen heap

  • Just saw her last night.. it was amazing!! :D

  • she is so different than all the rest, it's amazing

  • Thats a huge mac book sitting on the piano

  • Not an overall assumption because I love her music too, but from the looks of this video, she is ahead of her time.

  • A lovely performance! Keep going Heap!

  • I love when she starts to Dance when the Chorus Beats

  • cyndi lauper of this time!love you baby:)

  • Her name is a tongue twister. and thought in my opinion none of her songs live up to let go shes amazingly talented.

  • I feel like it would be awesomer if she did the loops live like owen pallett.

  • AMAZING IMOGEN

  • Theres no disgrace at all in performing with pre-programmed backing...Its not as though she hasnt played or arranged the backing herself beforehand.

  • Luke is absolutely correct. She did Just For Now live on Indie 103 and did the entire song right there. Doesn't even need music, just her voice on loop. She is a genius and pioneer in her field. LOVE HER!

  • I remember everyone talking about imogen heap.

  • i love her she has an amazing voice!

  • I just realized she looks a lot like one of my friend's cousins...cept the cousin is skinnier (thats not insulting Imogen...this chick is a freaking twig)

  • amazing... im crying...

  • What an amazing person and talent to be working the music and siging all at the same time.lol

  • I guess you've never seen her live--she plays all of her clips live, sets them to do a round while she layers more and more instruments like her "parrot" which IS a handheld piano that happens to strap onto her body so she can do that while playing bells, using her feet to mix sounds... you haven't seen it, clearly, or you'd "get" why people are impressed. Live, she is incredible, and it is raw. Look @ her Frou Frou stuff

  • watch?v=54X7t8bDq_4 is the current one... again, try watching her live--she usually has several more instruments and often features local accompaniment for her usa tours.

  • Thats a keyboard.

  • You've clearly never played music live.. Considering she's playing 95% of what you're hearing, and played at some point 100% of everything you're hearing, it takes quite a bit of talent. I can guarantee you it would be much easier to stand up there and play piano solo and sing. Much harder to coordinate all of your own mixes, beats, sing, play piano, and layer vocals all at the same time. She's got more talent with "machines" than most producers AND she has the song-writing and singing ability.

  • amen

  • Yes my problem comes in when you mix pre-recorded loops. Just my opinion but I don't care for live music that utilizes something other than real live instruments. I'm not saying its not a talent but its DEFINITELY not my preference. Just seems kind of gimmicky. Why not have living breathing band members play it for real? ...Pauls band? And yes I have played live music both solo and with a band. Its awful cause I can't sing well and my piano and guitar playing are both marginal at best.

  • First off, 95% of professional bands use pre-recorded loops in their songs. Even probably the greatest live band EVER, U2, uses pre-recorded keyboard tracks live. Does it take away from their performance at all? Does it make them any less talented?

No one else seems to care. All professional drummers use a metronome track to keep beat, does that make them less talented? Not at all. It's a part of professionalism. People want to pay to hear something good. Imogen just takes it one step further.

  • Well, Imogen just likes the sound of electronic drums. She said it herself, it wouldn't matter if a drummer would play exactly what she tell him to play, she would just sit for hours and "edit the life" out of them, because she likes it that way. Though, Imogen heap is a solo player and that's how she likes it. I don't mind what she does live as long as the music is still good and I enjoy it. I'd love to see Imogen live.

  • I can respect that. Some people like all electronic music and others like to mix loops and samples while never playing any actual instruments. For each their own as they say.

I've listened to about five of her songs now and her songwriting is very good IMO.

  • but see she is an artist. she's not a band. she uses a pre recorded drum beat and a few midi notes. so what? hear the piano? hear the singing? hear the plucked instrument (whatever that is..?)? she does it herself. to put it all together is talent. i'd admit if she was using a computer to play the back up instruments it would be a bit of a cop out, but she is nonetheless talented. i've watched many bands perform live, and every single good one uses some sort of pre-recorded instruments.

  • Owen isn't a band either and he does it all live. But I love Imogen and I'm not criticizing her. I think this is a wonderful performance of a beautiful song. I just love Owen more xD.

  • Who the hell is owen..?

  • Owen Pallett, sorry. I thought you were responding to my earlier post in which I mentioned him. Do a search for him, his songs are amazing.

  • I love Owen too dude! I live in Toronto, but I've only seen him once.

  • yeah I live in Cleveland and have yet to see him which is upsetting.

  • wow talk about one woman band, that would be really tough to do that the first time on tv live by yourself

  • She was on Letterman again tonight, doing Last Train home. What a revelation! Much more minimal look, and the music was amazing...

  • oww... it isnt the best perform

  • she's so unique!!! in a good way

  • very very complicated and beautiful composition.I admire her how can she manage all these machines in same time

  • best performance EVER!

  • people always bash her on her live voice, its out of key and everyrhing, i agree with thouse saying thats she was probobly very nervous!

if you can write music and produce it better then imogen, well then you can complain, if not, listen and learn!

  • wow she just threw in "my convenience" out of nowhere lol :)

  • "At my convenience" is part of the normal song - listen to the normal version again :)

  • I know it is but it dosnt usualy sound that.. well that dramatic.

  • Wow, people are so critical. I would imagine she was nervous, it was her debut on a US show, wasn't it? Personally I love the nervous, breathy voice, for me it adds to the charm of the performance. I actually like this version better than the album vesion. And with all the other things she's doing, not just singing, I'd challenge any of the critics to do it better. Maybe they should read what Barthes wrote about the 'timbre of the voice', it can be more expressive than any of the lyrics.

  • I completely agree, I too prefer this version. She should have incorporated the "la la la" bit into her recorded version - sounds so good.

  • I agree....She's not out of tune...that's her natural voice...ang being a bit NERVOUs when your performing is normal......anyway...She killed it!!!....nuff said!!

  • WOW she's really amazing live.

  • Lol, I got 4 thumbs down? It's just a fact that she was out of tune - probably due to nerves or bad feedback equipment etc, you're right. But she WAS out of tune. Sorry guys! =)

  • your right - the first little bit she was out of tune - she picked it up though, she was obvioulsy just nervous and then relaxed and really shone :D i don't understand how people can get so defnesive - it is your opinion :) and you happen to be right :p

  • Thank you! Yeah, I definitely wasn't hating on her because I love her - I just think she can do a LOT better. =))) Thanks, haha.xo

  • She is absolutely brilliant. I've seen her live and have to agree with others that she seemed a bit nervous.

  • did you notice shes bare foot? awesome girl!

  • I don't think she sounds awful... it's just a little different, sort of breathy. And I also think she must have been real nervous. I still love her. <3

  • she's not out of tune you loser - you obviously are tone deaf if you think she's off tune.

  • Haha, very mature response. Are you tone deaf if you think that was on key? Send it to another musician - they'll tell you.

  • pretty sure she's the one with the record contract and your on here being a douche watching and commenting her videos. get a life.

  • Haha. I never said I was a better singer than her. I'm a huge fan of hers and I've seen her live more than once and she's absolutely amazing. If I had a record contract and she didn't, I'd be very worried, haha.

No need to get stroppy with me, kid.

  • Love the "la la la" bit too

    my fave

  • I sware she's bigger in America than she is over here in England

  • i've never seen something like this. Just amazing.

  • Wonderful voice, great talent.

Can't wait new record in August...

  • Damn, she's amazing! Her vocals are flawless like it is on the album and can handle all the mixing and producing by herself!

  • she doesn't really look truly happy, and carefree like she usually does when you watch her do this one live. But as everyone has already said, on US tv for the first time, no wonder she was nervous.

  • purely amazing!

  • LOVE her!! She's such an amazing artist and I agree she's wonderful but she doesn't let it get to her head... :-) She's definitely my favourite... my favourites always change but she's always consistantly been there...

  • Tinges of Bowie. She is phenomenal

  • yea i can tell she is really nervous :/ but i still love her!!

  • i love her!

but does she sound more nervous than usual?

    xoxox

  • yes, she does.

    Still superb though.

  • I love you Imogen!

  • wowiii i love the waY SHE MAKES MUSIC ..ITS SOUNDS LIKE A CROSS BETWEEN CINDY LAUPER AND KATE BUSH.. thanks for sharing ..peace&LOVE ALANA:d

  • Outstanding!

  • She's so cute/beautiful! ^.^ You should see her vblogs here on YT, you get to really see how charming and unpretentious she really is. :)

  • She was wonderful.

  • Comment removed

  • she is enjoying the music that she made. Do you think it is so easy to make music that she just allows her motions and emotions to remain still? This is one of my favorites by Imogen so how bout them apples!

  • shes a hardcore chic.!! lyk her very much..!!! Shes gifted and a very good artist!!!

  • she has my laptop in black

  • She's a bad ass.

  • why does she look gothic here?

  • Why does everyone expect a note perfect performance from someone who is making the entire backing track while she's singing??? Are you all mad?

There are singers that only have to concentrate on one thing that do a worse job than this. Besides, it's only the first line or two that are a bit shaky.

  • after the crap she had to swim through after her record company folded, and the effort she put into the new album, it's understandable that nerves would take over during her first TV appearance

  • could it be nerves?

it doesnt matter anyway... shes awesome!! def one of the best artists today.

  • yeah it was definitely not perfect but for some reason i really loved it

  • You can hear that her voice is off around 1:02. She sounds like she's recovering from a cold.

Still, a good performance. I'm surprised Letterman liked her so much.

  • I think this is one of her best live performances. Her voice is a lot stronger than usual, and she stuck to the original melody from the song more than usual. :)

  • Anyone else think she was a little off? Maybe a little flat?

  • Comment removed

  • i truly don't think this was nerves...she definitely sounds like she was sick - sore throat or something...poor thing, but she gave it her best shot. i would have been tempted to cancel in her situation. that was an admirable performance, but definitely far from her best.. love her!
