@isleoforkney nonono its a compliment! i think he's legitimately one of the best drummers ive ever heard. beats the shit outta bonham or moon or fucker tommy lee haha. very timely, not FLASHY, doesnt blow up his drums or fuck pam anderson but does exactly what the song calls for. trust me, i was in no way insinuating that steve jansen blows or any such thing
This is a song i first heard about this time last year, and it's this kind of thing that makes me realise the importance of bass guitar. Long live Mick Karn! x x x
the reason is sylvian started this image off, then duran duran took a like to it and copied it, then try try to steal the fire early eighties. japan late 70's
@dogsbalearics Hi! I 4 me, it´s not important who started 1st or copied who. I prefer to use it was inspired by... I <3 both... There´re many bands that had inspired by others, ex. Kraftwerk inspired Human League, Depeche Mode, New Order; A-ha inspired Colplay, Keane... I <3 the 80s. 4 me again, it was a golden era. Let´s celebrate the good music! Cheers!
@biladd mmm very interesting, you seem to know your stuff! I think japan were in a league of their own, listen to their albums, they weren not a commercial group, they wrote and played truly original and innovative music, not to reach a mass audience, or to achieve album sales. I dont know how you can compare them with these other groups or even put them in the same sentence
@isleoforkney hi, not comparing. just saying Inspiration is natural. Even Japan members had/have their musical preferences which inspired themselves such as YMO. I´m not selfish. My heart is big enough to admire + bands (similar style or not). & i think there´s nothing wrong bringing 'music for the masses'. People need good stuff. "If word is the language of the mind, music is the language of the soul". & the world is capitalist. Sylvian lent his song to an Armani Jeans commercial (2011). Cheers

You can go to nightporter.co.uk/pages/bass_auction.html to learn about a bass auction with the proceeds going to the Mick Karn Appeal to help this great bassist and his family during his recent time of need fighting cancer.
@SelflessWill I totally forgot about Dalis Car until your post! My late brother Mark got me into Japan and I've started listening to them again over the last couple of years . It would be so cool if Japan reformed for a few shows!
wow, thanks for that information! I didn't know this was one of Nick's favorite songs by them. I'm a big fan of Nick and Duran Duran. I heard that Nick kind of "borrowed" David's style and David wasn't happy about it. Is that right?
Hello, Rach84! lol I know pretty well who David Sylvian is!! Don´t worry! ;) I just said Nick considers this song (by Japan, right?! lol) as his favorite one, among many others. Nick also is a huge fan of David! Good taste, huh?! And paying more attention, there are differences between them! ;) BE VERY WELCOME!!!
The drumming in this track is awesome, even though some of it had to be on tape, thats why Steve Jansen has head phones on to listen to the click track.
Zero dislikes. Indeed :)

he never said anything about it, honestly I don't think he cares since he considers himself far beyond the music of Japan unfortunately.

@fiendwithoutaface66 Unfortunately indeed. Duran Duran were/are shite compared to Japan, despite having more popularity and chart success (imo)

What do you mean Nick Rhodes? I know he looks like him, but it's David Sylvian, lol. They do look so much alike though.
