  • Think this is powerful enough to cool my computer?

  • I HAVE AN IDEA! maybe it can do that one thing with the spinning and the yeah

  • COGS

  • It's a thing, and thats what counts.

  • the spinning got me wet but steam would really get me off thanks for the cool art post!

  • Behold the self cooling fan!

  • It's a system to cool itself! =3

  • Go ahead, stick your tongue in there. I DARE ya'.

  • so....it doesnt do anything, it spins? you seem to be forgetting that steampunk is defined as a genre where the technology era was sped up hundreds of years so people in the 1800's had computers and mechanical tech and other such things, you have made a couple of gears turn. sorry but this isnt steampunk

  • XD... your name matches your post so well... but really, steampunk originated as literature and even if the thing doesnt actually accomplish any real task, if it does so fictionally it can be considered steampunk... next you will be denouncing steampunk jewlery as a misnomer... this is an underapreciated subculture... keep an open mind... its all fiction in the end =)

  • its a great steampunk engine

  • wow neat :) it may not have a function but still neat

  • How does it work? Is the piston powered, or the fan? I mean, which came first?

More clearly put: is the spinning making the piston move, or is the piston making the fan spin?

  • A device any suicide bomber would be proud to wear...

  • with just a few hamsters we could power the world!

  • That is awesome but I would be extremely afraid of it popping off and sawing something important off lol.

  • this is more clockpunk , but still awesome.

  • Must...learn.

  • I bet that'd hurt if you tried to catch the spinning pinwheel of metal with your hand.

  • I now have diarrhea!

  • welcome to the point of steampunk... there isnt one :D this is awesome!

  • This is pretty sweet, but is it that loud when it's running normally?

  • Aaah, wonderful to see a future casemod with some working parts. Especially that with glorious gears.

    Bravo!

  • i have no idea what it is, but i like it!

  • ooooo shiny gold gears and stuff ide like to make something like this one day i'm really interested in steampunk mechanisms

  • @shadowcrow5 its brass...

  • Ha ha, fan cooled gears.

  • nice use for VCR parts :)

  • The important thing is that it works. We will discover its purpose another time.

  • Yes, and i can imagine it being used in some steampunk boat/sub. Which is odd, because I'm drawing "blueprints" for a steampunk 4-story sub that resembles a Whale, it's sexy

  • looks cool and all, but does it have a function other than spin and look cool?

  • I'm guessing its a fan, since this is going to be a PC mod?

  • Hmm, but i don't think it'd be as efficient as a normal one - still very cool though

  • I dont think its meant to be very efficient ;)

  • You're right. The ONLY function of this mechamism is to spin and look cool :)

  • just wondering, can you do the in-out going pipe just by attaching it to the wheel and putting a smaller pipe in a bigger pipe so it goes in and out?

  • @korkoczong well lool it can be a fan xD!

  • @korkoczong I am sure you can find a practical use for it. Looks like it could defiantly spin something :)

  • @korkoczong well, it can be a deli slicer or a fan :D

  • @korkoczong its a fan

  • @korkoczong des the fan atleast cool you down?

  • @korkoczong Don't say that! It uhm....causes a tiny little wind and can cut things!^^

  • @bbglas007 Put your finger in and see!

  • @bbglas007 Thats the joy of steam punk. No, it doesn't

  • @bbglas007 well clearly it can convert reciprocal motion to rotary motion, or vice versa

  • where do u get the gears for it?

  • Take apart things that have gears... clocks for instance.

  • Remeber though when taking apart clocks some pieces can be radioactive:D

  • Are you Serious?

  • I know what it dose. but firt you need to know how it works. See that arm? its powered by heat and gravity. What you do is you take a match and light a candle, jack it up off the ground and it will run. Now that you know that. I can tell you that its used for m-

  • Great but what it's does? I dont talking about noise and turning.

  • Dang I would give anything to make a fan like that for my case.

  • Right then. What is it and what does it do? If you know, that is. I know, and will tell you...if you want. But you already know. Don't you?

  • Um, I think I know: It's a sterling steam motorized crank that simply turns a series of gears to accomplish some kind of timing or clockworks kind of thing -- I cannot think of any other need for so many series of gear ratios other than a multi position time/clocking thing.

    Do reveal, good sir.

  • You are correct! This particular sterling steam motorized crank is being used as a fan as a part of an artwork, which could be used in a number of applications. Excellent deduction!

  • it looks really cool, but...whats it do???

  • its either a sarcastic attempt at a fan, or more litely, just something to look awesome, which is kinda the idea. This thing fits the steampunk theme well. I just want someone to make a cyberpunk mod.

  • Powinieneś dostać Nobla za te patenty Macek ;]

  • Stary, jestes moim mistrzem :-)

  • Steampunk!

  • This looks amazing!

  • thats pretty cool... who cares about noise if the noise does look like this?

is it steam powered or electric?

  • It's clockwork (i.e it's powered by wound-up springs)

  • *o* wooooww... i want one. hang it on my wall.

  • Very Very noisy

  • the fan looks like it came from a Porsche engine.
