Thanks for the video and sharing with us...but you haven't clearley said that the Western divided Somalia into 5...which is Somaliland, Somali, Ogaden, Djabouti and NDF...that is the most important thing..we were the biggest African Nation, who loved n cared for each other...but Western taught us the hate and tribe issue to divide us...by this Century we would been the most 1 African nation who speak, 1 language, 1 traditional and have one religion..plus we are known as the Land of Poet..cheers
Thanks. I passed. More importantly, I hope it gave my classmates a better understanding of what a rich historical and cultural background Somalis have.
thanksfor the video.... some facts where explained the wrong way, about ethopia defeating somalia.. NO Somalians and the Ogaden ethnically Somalians in the ogaden.. defeated the tigray and amhara ethopian oppresors and empiralist.. then since ethiopians where christian and the Somalians where black muslims thats why ethiopia got helped financialy and military and soldier suppoert from Christian nations like Russia, America, and Portugise and Cuban and libya and yeman, so that was Plain Cowardice
damn bruh you everywere.Still talking about your bullshyt. You said ethiopia got help from christian nations and listed libya and yemen???Are you dumb??Did you forget that somalia was armed heavily by russia before the betrayed them and helped ethiopia??Anyways that should show you how these nations use us afrakans against each other. But you are trapped in your fake ass religions talking about your christanity and fake ass islam!!!Nothing but slave religions!!!
LET ME CORRECT SOME THINGS ON THIS VIDEO. 1ST. somalis converted to islam in the first 10 years of the prophets message. when the prophets conpanions migrated to land of abasinia
woow i'm amazed the video got some errors but who gives a shit i'm glad that some one tried to do some thing about our country and i'm glad he did cause our country is beautifull in it's own way braap somalian for life and thanks for the upload mate
This is an assingment I did for a class. In Finland, we have a large populations of Somalian immigrants. I wanted my classmates to know more about Somalis. Most of my classmates are from different parts of Africa but still are quite ignorant of other countries history and culture.
kosar, i dont know what you're talking about. Somalis are mostly homogeneous, with intermarriages between clans for centuries. I don't believe in the myths that claim that Daarood or Isaaq were Arabs, but i do believe that all Somalis are closely related. Genetics have proved that the Somali genome is 80% Cushitic, 15% Eurasian ,and 5% sub-saharan African, and that this is true of all Somalis, not certain clans, which means that Somalis are closely related, regardless of clan affiliation.
yup. I am darood, and i don't claim arabic blood. We are indegineous. And somehow that makes me proud...and WE ARE ALL ONE BIG BEAUTIFUL family. our clans were never used to divide us but to make our lineage strong. I don't know what went wrong.
I am somalian and I think there are many errors in this video with respect to the Historical aspect of the origins of the somali people. What you have mentioned is what is what you understood from the Western Historians....and if you go back those historical facts that were written by Easterners, you will find that Somalis are not homogeneous people and they came from many different places including middle east and north africa.
Yes, unfortunately, for the scope of this small assignment, I was unable to use any other source aside from Western ones.Getting those types of resources was very difficult.
2. a member of any of various peoples of northern and eastern Africa,
usually divided into two branches:
1. Eastern Branch— Ancient and Modern Egyptians (excluding the Arabs), Nubians, Beja, Ethiopians, Oromo (Galla), Afar (Danakil), Somali, Masai, Watusi.
2. Northern Branch— Berbers of the Mediterranean-Atlantic and Sahara, Tibbu, Fulani (Peul), Guanches (extinct).
this is a well writing brief history of somali, and you are right history will always re-writen...so don't pay attention to those ignorant trying to invalidate your summery about somalia.ipersonally appreciated, cuz i learned something from the slide show.
Thank You.I know that there are alot Nasty comments coming from ill-minded people,I assure you that you have the right to talk about somalis more than those sick commentors.I doubt if they are somalis or just using our name to dirtify.talk, talk, talk, talk, talk, talk and taaaaaaaaaalk about somalis as much as you can and let down the haters
This is directed to any dubious individuals that come here and dare to write any racist ignorant remarks. Go away. There is no free speech on this page and your comments will never be shown. Only I who am not Somali but am nonetheless offended by your stupidity and ugly comments, shall see them. Additionally, I will forward your idiotic drivel to the powers that be and hopefully your account will be closed.
I wonder what or who motivated you to take some of your time away from all else that could easily have been at the top of your priorities to make this video a bout a country from which you say not have come from!
pilvenvarjo. I really thank you about your interest of somali origins, history and cultures. but I think you did not pay much attention to available somali historical Academia. Now when you started your video, you started with the country itself.somalis don't just live in somalia, but Djabouti Northern province of kenya and Vast land of east Ethiopia called Ogaden all of the them share same origins, cultures, religion and even laguage
Hi. Yes, I am aware of this fact. I just did not have enough time to explain all that. Thus, it is only a brief introduction. Our endeavor for this assignment was only that and the rest (which was not shown here) focused on Somali's issues with healthcare in Finland. This was done for nursing school not anthropology class, hence the use of the simplest briefest references. Thank you.
That may be true. It was done some time ago. I do not claim that this is the most up to date or most accurate version. Please read the About this video. So, I would say things like "some say...". As I said before, if people really want an education on Somali culture people and origins they should really go read several books, because at different times people believe different things to be true. History is rewritten and one persons' truth is not another's.
I truelly appreciate this young lady's brief history of Somalia......As a Somali, i really would support if the world gave somalis 2 years to unite or Break Somalia to pieces and give them to neighboring countries, I am a Patriot but that is the only way they will wake up....ISLAM HAS CAME AND STILL HERE BUT THEY DON'T PAY ATTENTION TO IT, THEY CALL SCHOLARS.."TERRORISTS" shame on my people, SHAME ON YOU ...
Good jop but you are mistaken about the barre's red barres. Please inquire more into the facts. I do not know where you are situated but there are former officials of the late regime almost everywhere. Once again good jop.
a sad nation somalis are and stupid.all u need to do is accept your brothers and sisters, and unite.forget what happend and forgive each other.other wise u will never ever have a peace in your country.soomaalay toosa!
Yes, I realize that I oversimplified this aspect. I did not have enough time to include all that in this short format which was brief on the history and more focused on the cultural aspect. The other part was a oral report on the culture and health care.
also there is land ogadenia land that belongs to somalis which is now occupied by ethopians beacuse it was given to them by the britins to punish somalis for choosing under going italian occupation rather then them so they felt betrayed.. also there NFD land(northern Frontier District) its somali inhabitated and still under Kenyas occupation.
You did wonderful job if you things you failed to mentioned on your somalia project.. such as that somalia was fighting with not only eithopia but with russia military experts and supplies, and cuban military personal we We won the war against ethipia in 1977-1978 but lost it to russians and Cubans communist...
There are indeed many more layers of Somalian history to be considered and more complex machinations to be examined. To that end, I encourage people to find out for themselves about Somalian history and culture by reading as many different resources out there, so that they may understand for themselves the richness of this land and its people.
you know, u are right, but somalis will never understand, the richness of their motherland, bcz, they always talk like "this is my clan, and that and that bla bla". the vid was nice, but i dont think is going to make any difference.
Yes, I understand that the history of Somalia is deeper than I was able to reveal in the amount of time that I had. Consequently, most of what I show in the film is just the 'tip of the iceberg'.
Solid!!!! job well done. an ancient Egyptian name of an area not absolutely identified but believed to be Somaliland
Somalia was nod defeated by ethiopia. Russia was behind it, sent cuba to Defend Ethiopia. Russia could have done it themselfs ,,but they didnt want to creat political issues with United States in east Africa.
