  • 6581r2 !! Where'd you get the Racing Aces CD song..?

Sadly my Genesis, my first console died on me. And I don't think I could bear the struggle of finding the CD add-on, all the cables/connections needed, and the game..

DL'd it twice and the songs have some crap silence interruptions..=(

  • SEGA GAMES 1990

  • The chips tunes were often awesome, but the CD stuff tended to be horribly generic, IMO. Soulstar had 1 decent tune, as did Sonic CD. Listen to the title music on Terminator or Streets of Rage 2, for example.

  • Bari-Arm...that sounds like an awesome 80s metal band.

  • No Snatcher? Fail!

  • they were the good old days before gaming got messed up:D

  • Thanks for this Jewell *****

  • The Sega CD could have been a SNES killer if:

    - there were no damn fmv games.

    - programmers had the visual taste of Taiwanese pirates (just look at the colors in barver battle saga)

    - games that took advantage of the great scaling hardware, instead of crappy ports.

    - more rpgs, lunar isn't (and wasn't) enough.

  • Very nice. I love the music from black hole assault. do you have all the songs of the soundtrack or know of a link to get them? I've been trying to look for the music for a long time :C

  • I don't know the reasons but i prefer the japanese OST from Sonic CD...though some songs from Spencer DO sound better than some japanese soundtrackes...

  • That's not real in-game Silpheed musc.... That's the arraged version in the CD bonus tracks. All in-game music in silpheed is hardware generated (not streamed), using the Genesis FM chip PSG and Sega CD's 8-channel PCM chip. (others have posted the proper soundtracks for the game)

  • Sylpheed still had great music though :P.

  • Yeah, and there's a lot of the tracks in Silpheed that are only in-game, only a few are CD bonus material.

Really, the fact that the music is all real-time hardware synthesized only makes it more impressive. ;)

  • Nobody has ever posted gameplay footage from Racing Aces, and this is the only video on Youtube that acknowledges it.

The game was pretty hard, and looking at it was...well..not easy, but I loved it for some reason. It was the only game of it's type on the Sega CD.

  • No, the mode 7 chip was built into the hardware. The only time SNES could run at full 3.58 mhz was with mode 7 enabled. The SNES had twice the internal memory of the mega drive, but it was still underpowered as it had to generate far superior graphic detail and sound than the Mega drive.

Who gives a shit, my Wii blows them both out of the water.

  • Bari-arm music is AWESOME!

  • someone told me it was made by white snake

  • who knows i also like lords of thunder on the sega cd,i have the tgcd version on my wii with it's stellar shredder tracks i think the sega cd version has more soul in them tought.

  • SNES games make my ear's bleed, Genesis brings tears to my eyes its so good in all aspects.

  • SNES has superior sound quality the Genesis and mega drive have kinda muffled and blocky and midi sounding 8 bit sounding tunes

this is like cd quality music not even close to SNES its so much better than SNES

  • now you're consfusing the 2 genesis muffled??? that was a snes kind of thing cause it couldn't handle midi's like amiga at times it couldn't handle midis at all or didn't add a apropriate soundtrack to gamees F zero with trumpets WTF moment even in the mid 90t's contra with symphonic music WTF we needed something like hardcorps on snes.snes has great organic sound at times but when not programmed right those midis sound like they're half way trought a toilet.

  • the original megadrive model 1 has a superior sound to the model 2 yet the snes is widely known to have superior sound

the sega cd changed all that with cd quality sound

  • @KieranD212

yeah thats what been said, maybe it has but i think genesis sounds allot better.have you ever hear anything like thunder forcebatman and robin or devilish on snes?.heck streets of rage 2 is lightyears ahead of the snes music wise.some guys knew how to program for the snes it's chip well but as you can hear many preferd the genesis one because it wasn't so damn complex.the spc in the snes is awesome only the snes it's 64k and filters kill those great samples of at times.

  • @dougd1015 SNES tunes seriously have no essence at all compared to SEGA Mega Drive! MD's tunes had spirit! I am not a SEGA fanboy rather a videogame hardcore gamer since 1989.. I can recognize NES had AWESOME soundtracks compared to Master System which had some pretty good music but NES had that extra magic.. As for SEGA MEGA CD what can I say PURE BEAUTY!

  • wihtout of doubt the sega cd had the most game featured whammy guitar so typical sega cd but offcourse cool.

  • Just calm down man

    They're just video game consoles.

True, I do know that the Sega Genesis has a by far supperior.......is by far supperior to the SNES in all aspects.

    To me it very clear.

I'm sorry that you don't see that.

    But still calm down.

Don't get so worked up by these things, okay?

  • Depends of the game. MK 1 for sega genesis is better, but MK II for SNES is better. Both are good consoles.

  • No, the Genesis had washed out graphics, lower resolution, inferior sound. The SNES had 4 independant co-processors, it could do 4 scrolling backgrounds, the Genesis only three.Look at Donkey Kong Country games to see the SNES's true potential Unfortunately the sound and graphics of the state of the art SNES were much harder to program. It took years for programmers to get used to it, and by the time they did, it was time to upgrade to a more advanced system.

  • taking the example of pitfall: the mayan adventures, the SNES version has lack of some sound effects like the effects when you take the coins and jewels and the music's volume it's bad

  • Does anyone know if the damn Sega CD has a regional lockout and can play foreign Sega Mega CD games?!!

  • just get the sonic collection for the gamecube. that'll set you straight. It has Sonic CD on it. And OP, post more of this. It's awesome hearing some Sega CD tracks.

  • Yes, it does. I have ordered games from Japan and hoped to play them. The music will work, but not the games. Sorry.

  • buy a mehga cart it let you acces every import sega cd game in lets say a cdx.

  • wich version of sonic cd has the best muci i have the european its not bad but i would like some rock themes in it.

  • I love looking into these CD attachments.(SegaCD, TurboCD, etc)

Some felt it was Sega's first mistake, but I've always felt the SegaCD had protential. The Genesis somewhat lacked the sound quality compared to what the SNES could produce. It could had been so much more...

The 32X, now THAT was a mistake.

  • The Genesis used FM synthesis to generate sounds, while the SNES played back samples like the Amiga except at a lower sampling rate. Although the 32X wasn't a great idea on Sega's part, it did have some good games like Afterburner, Space Harrier, and Cosmic Carnage (for the music.)

  • well the sega CD proves the snes wrong it eats the old nintendo like a lion would eat a mice with no mercy.a sega cdx is a fine pice to your collection but soerly its not region free.

  • Your comment was good until you had to go ahead and say that the Genesis sound chip wasn't as good as the SNES' and then say that the 32X was a mistake.

I'm sorry I hold nothing against you, but the Sega Genesis most definitely had a far supperior sound chip to the SNES.

And then saying that the 32X was a mistake; when the system is clearly a masterpeice.

Hello, Virtua Racing Delux, Virtua Fighter, Knuckles' Chaotix!

  • and many more that had come like rad mobile arcade perfect etc who wanted to see that happen

  • SNES could produce digital sampled sound in stereo. It also was ahead of its time with Super Turrican 1 and 2 which had (gasp) Dolby Pro Logic surround sound programmed into the game. The Genesis could only do synthesized stereo, and voices were harsh compared to SNES

  • the mega drive was not as good at sound output even the HD graphics models which done proper stereo where still inferior

still everything back then was inferior to cd quality

the snes graphics are superior different types of colour tho you can tell if you put street fighter 2 turbo next to each other the colours are different and a bit more anti aliasing on the blocky edges on the snes

so if you prefer sharper blocky textures the genesis/mega drive is like that

  • @MaxK18- agree

  • @MaxK18 tha music from the sega CD was amazing better than most games today.

  • is that the jap version of sonic cd?.

  • It's the American version.

  • oh men, this console have the best soundtracks ever made for a videogames!

    thanx for uploading!

  • It does have some great tracks - too bad there wasn't more of them. Thanks for commenting.
