  • stupid american, turning right on a left handed track

  • And the man walked out.....like a boss....

  • OH YEAH... AND HES... JUST.... BAM!!!

  • typical stupid american turning right on a left turn only oval track

  • cuz driving in circles is hard

  • there are over a million ways a crash can happen.. you call your tracks save if you look at other crashes? the only reason for such horrible crashes is the track concept

  • nice parking

  • I can't understand why Americans like watching these cars going on a rond track at full throlle... The definition of Nascar: no skills. Even watching to a kart race is more fun.

  • @Speedlov if you believe there is no skill in NASCAR your ignorant. There is skill in every motorsport NASCAR, ALMS, WRC, F1, the average person cant just show up to a NASCAR event and run with the pros around a track 400 times. There is an art to crowded oval racing just ask the f1 drivers who switch from f1 to nascar. I may not like it but it sure does take talent.

  • drifting fail

  • Nascar is gay.

  • @Speedlov Shut up.

  • Almost identical to the Gordon Smiley wreak

  • i think he would have been better off not turning right.

  • A little snap hook into the wall, thats why he don't drive in NECKCAR anymore.

  • Aaron's, I wonder if he's made his last payment on that car.

  • Ok, so this guy WALKED away from this, yet Dale Earnhardt died from his injuries??? nah. doesn;t make sense.

  • @kingdomboost Earnhardt's harness tore in half due to the crappy way they installed it. It's not talked about much, but Dale would be fishing today if he or the team had installed the damn harness correctly. They had the belt coming straight up from the floor, then angling through the holes in the seat, who the fuck installs a belt like that? Anyone with any sense puts them in a straight pull angled back to an anchor. The adjuster flipped sideways and point loaded the belt till it shredded.

  • @505197 absolute truth

  • @kingdomboost The differences between Earnhardt's car and crash circumstances are hundreds of thousands of miles away from the circumstances in this crash. The car itself and the safety barriers on the walls are the only reason Michael survived this.

  • Can someone please explain why people watch nascar?

  • @jamie56795 it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out..

  • @HuggormSWE Im gonna guess the crashes. Which is why i dont think nascar represents motorsport at all.

  • props to the person who engineered that roll cage! holy cow!

  • how was you day dear?

    shit my pants a bit.

  • I dont know what fun do you find in Nascar racing ?? people going almost full throtle , risking their lives ; i dont really understand ??

  • @MsKimo28 thats what all racing is, it wouldnt be racing if there was a speed limit.

  • safer barrier saved him.

  • round and round and round and round and round....zzzz

  • next time, dont turn right. ;)

  • i kinda find it funny that drivers manage to flip it in qualifying... cale yarburrough even did it at daytona

  • This guy should be inducted into the hall of fame, just for this

  • hard hitting the wal and then 12 siderolls with hard roof hits!! thats so tough. but i think he needs alot of ibuprofeen and other medics against the headace and other pain!

  • God daym!

  • COT+Saferwalls+HANS ftw...

  • You yanks are so fucking stupid

The cars are built almost exactly the fucking same as each other.....wouldn't matter if you put a TONKA badge on the front

It's how they are set up,what's under the hood and who is behind the wheel

  • @mattyguff1 Yeah, we all know that, but we like to make the comments anyways because everyone likes they're own types of cars, its just the ways us "Yanks" are. If you don't like it, STFU and GTFO

  • @mattyguff1 fuck off u dumb hick tht aint the point at all the point is letting a fuckin jap fuckin company race in nascar i mean mise well let niggers race in it too you fuckin inbred retard

  • @mattyguff1 thats a good one coming from an Australian.

  • Well theres your problem, the emblem on the front!

Japan was never meant race in an American Motor Sport.

  • Thank you University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Indy Racing League for inventing the SAFER Barrier and saving lives. It is just too bad the "hard heads" in NASCAR took too long to impliment it. Could have saved some great drivers.

  • did he die or something??

  • @Assasinwhite No... He walked away without a scratch

  • Correct, similar situation as in 1982. But it's also true that most of the kinetic energy was absorbed by the car travelling and rolling down the track ... not in the crash itself. Anyway, Dale Earnhart Sr. died in a vey similar crash 10 years ago ... the COT was a good idea.

  • That was a glancing blow. If it was over 180 mph head on (as guaranteed by the commentator) the car would have disintegrated. He was going fast but the momentum keeps him going straight. He hit the wall at maybe 30 mph. The rest of the speed was vectored down the track - so get over it retards

  • @Pigroota your a dumb ass

  • this Crash kinda reminds me Gordon Smiley´s Fatal at Indy500 in 1982 i think.. the car slides exactly the same way

  • fucking toyota

  • If this were 1998, R.I.P. Mr. McDowell!

  • @sportsguruisme 1970s it would be much worse

  • I think that when he tried to compensate he ruined everything. He ended crashing head-on. It would be better to let the car keep turning left and i think it would be a safer option. But he was trying to keep himself going. And i would have tried it as well. I'm glad he's alive

  • How the hell do you crash driving round in a circle? :S

  • @Slashbag69 thats america

  • @Slashbag69 Its hard because at 180 - 190 mph the cars a very light and sensitive, the slightest mis-calculation going into a corner no matter if it was a left or a right hand turn and the car takes off just as the video shows and creates a massive impact. Elliot Sadler had the Engine ripped from his car this year, from a head on collision with a bank that was on the inside of the track. It takes a lot of talent to keep a car striaght at those speeds

  • this still boggles my mind that he walked away from this crash.

  • same sort of crash/impact as gordon smiley - different result thankfully

  • VITE HANSAPLAST!!!!

  • if you pause at 0:08 you can see the safer barrier is almost all the way against the concrete wall. I turned on the TV that day just in time to watch him come out for his run. I thought for sure he was dead. Amazing that he survived. Great post.

  • i was grounded that day

  • oh btw didnt say im english and know nothing about Nascar- but i do love motorsport-so i guess i do like Nascar... and that was a seriously heavy smash... absoulute respect for the safety of the sport today -and that the driver WALKED away?? awesome!

  • Normally, the sound of that engine screaming down the front stretch going into turn is one of the most beautiful sounds I've ever heard, but not there. That is the one thing that no nascar should ever want to see.

  • jesus!!

  • shoulda let the car spin to the left and not countersteer u already lost all ur time by being sideways

  • @KingCobraOutlaw yes he overcorrected!

  • there would not be so much money in nascar if it was easy whubillyfag so shut ur fucking mouth about America andm if nascar is so easy then be my guest to go make millions

  • its funny how americans struggle to drive around circles and in straight lines and british people racetracks squiggle left and right

  • @WhuBilly10 yea, but our cars reach close to 200mph and some 300mph (fyi miles are bigger then kilometers. do not worry we all know you brits are STILL bitter about the revolutionary war.

  • @Megaman62889 ooh fyi we still mesasure in mph not kph.. youre probably insinuating england is part of europe? england is not part of europe. fyi england is england. fyi- N1= La(Sa)..... you work that little equasion out- you come back to me.

  • also, after watching another video of this that shows a better view, he didnt even hit the wall head on, which took the power of hitting the wall down, scary for sure but not a life threatening hit

  • Love how everyone casualy watches the car roll past them. Lol

  • I agree, the "safer" barrier saved him. That impact would have been fatal if it were into a concrete wall.

  • @kentamcolin The SAFER barrier wall is overrated, Im not saying that it did nothing is the saving his life but what did more was the HANS device. Through the history of Nascar, alot of drivers have hit the wall. I find it funny that this one person says he use to work for Roush Racing in the 90's and think he would of been dead when in the 90's when there wasnt no SAFER wall, drivers were still walking away.

  • i was watching this live. i about pissed myself when i saw this..

  • I cant belive that he is survive.

  • would love to see crash graphics in a video game like that! Not that its funny or entertaining, it would be in a video game, not real life! that guy is LUCKY!

  • it doesnt feel like nascar anymore.. im glad they added alot of safety measures in the COT though..

  • serves him right. he's in nascar, the douchebag.

  • if there was no COT and the saftey standards were like the old ones (say this was 5 or 10 years ago) he would've been seriously injured or killed on impact

  • Also, my brother is in Nascar as a mechanic he said there was oil on the track from a previous car and other drivers were trying to tell nascar to clean up the track. As soon as McDowell hit the oil spot his car hooked right that's what happened here incase anybody was wondering b/c it seems wierd. It loos like he just got loose but what happened there was he got wicked loose. Well the reason was b/c of oil on the track.

  • The reason he flipped after he hit the wall was b/c of the soft wall. That's is what saved his life. When the car starts to flip like that after it hit the wall the car is losing engery gradualy. If the Soft wall wasn't there the car would of just stoped suddenly and the initial impact would have been much worse.

  • Um okay

  • looked like joey logano's flip in september at dover a cuple weeks ago.

  • no it didn't

  • Michael McDowell Massive Crash In Texas Qualifying

  • No one questions the COT for its safety LarryMac or whoever said that, but fot its bullshit aerodynamics, no one has ever explained to me why they changed the body's aeros so drastically, I see no fuckin reason to not adjust is more to the shape and properties of the old car for god's fuckin sake

  • OUCH!! The car has now useless but how the fuck has his repercussion about that huge accident? Ain't so yum I guess but the crash was awesome. Look at that, whence that began to crashing at 0:06 I guess that his controlling gone of the hands and aggressive car attacks on wall, and from this yet the car does the huge rollovers. And do you discern yet that fire yonder with car at 0:51. That's exactly a huge impact and amazes because the driver walking away.

  • This crash is eerily similar to the 1982 Gordon Smiley crash at Indy 500 time trials. Yes, I know this is a stock car, but still...this would have been fatal 10 years ago.

  • this just shows how safe the cars are today. i really thought he wasn't gonna walk away from that...

  • im guessing this was practice/qualifying. it sure is hell of a good thing that this was not a race. imagine haveing 20 or 30 cars behind him also? just more lives at risk.

  • @fishingdude2013 its the car of tomorrow, i doubt anybody would have died or had their lifes risked if it had been a 30 car accident

  • That's not what he needed

  • No shit.

  • Snap oversteer conditions occur in sports car racing and F1 all the time.

That's what happens when you take an automobile laden with aerodynamic doodads to the limit.

  • yaaay, with you behind the wheel =)

  • i shoulda wanted to be in that car, .lol,

  • he wanted to do a proper race so he turned right

  • ...No

  • Nascar is proper racing I guess you forgot they do run road courses.

  • twice in a whole year

  • Lucky guy to live nowadays. This crash is amazingly similar to the one which killed Gordon Smiley at the 1982 Indy 500.

  • It must have been difficult to walk to the ambulance with that huge load of shit in his pants.

  • lmao X^D dude that is fuckin hilarious I am pissing myself XD

  • counter steered too much or too quickly which is why he headed straight into the wall.

too bad there isn't an onboard camera.

  • I sounds worst in the car. I flip 14 times and It looks worst watching it on here!!!

  • So long as they don't take the cost of the repairs out of your pay :P

But on a more serious note, when you want an adrenaline fueled ride like that again, go to a theme park and get on the big roller coaster.

  • stay steer left but less.

steeringwheel a bit to the right to hold it, yeah a half a second.

  • the funny thing is the wing or spolier, was still atached to the car after the crsh

  • fucking hell i saw this wen i was on holiday in florida

  • raff62 are you saying that you have hit something head on 186 mph and then flipped 8 times like what the hell are you saying

  • lol:P

  • at that part of the track they are hittin 150-160 mph. he's is lucky he didnt die in this crash

  • Easier said than done.

  • man i was watching qualifying when this happend, i thought it killed him seriously

  • that was like how dale earnheart died, except alot bigger hit tbh. all hail the hanz device.

  • Wow,rough one. COT does it's job. But I see it this way, a bad wreck can be one of two things, a bad one,as in you get hurt or killed, or it can launch fame, he's plastered all over tv now, he's on ELLEN today. I bet he ends up with a full time ride and a killer sponsor for a good team next year.

  • that was a major crash but luckly he had the SAFER barrier to absorb most of the impact or the way the cars abd barriers use to be he would have been seriously injured or worse yet killed most likely killed

  • GOD DAMN!!!! I had no idea this happened!!!!!

  • Sick accident, but he walked away shaken, but without any major injuries.

How good is the COT for protecting the drivers? This good! Interesting to see what NASCAR say the cause of the crash is.

  • I heard NASCAR said it was that something broke under the car when he got loose so when he corrected the car it snapped back and he could do nothing to control it.

  • i guess that car is toast..

  • Not only are we happy to see him walk away, we give mad props to the designer of the SAFER barrier.

  • Man that was incredibly hard. Thank goodness he was able to walk away from such a violent hit, uninjured no less. A true testament to the safety features such as the SAFER barrier and everything inside the car.

  • uh oh better get macoo!

  • Shit that was mother fucken hard

  • Hey - I used to work for Roush Racing back in the late '90s and let me tell you, ten years ago this guy would have been DOI, or what we called Dead On Impact.

I truly cannot believe that he lived, let alone WALKED AWAY!

    S.A.F.E.R. Barriers rule!

  • @atticus176 What did you do at Roush?

  • WOW

  • i saw this live and all i could think was he cant survive that and then he walked away and i was amazed but this deff shows how safe the COT is... imagine the reg car in that impact

  • holy balls what an impact

glad to see the safety cage did its job

  • I could not believe Michael walked away from this crash. I was shocked when I saw it on the news. I'm not a COT fan, but if it prevents injury in a crash like this, I might want to rethink my thoughts about it.

    Thanks for posting the video!!!!

    He's one lucky man!!!

  • figures the one week i plan on not recording
