  • How could you say it's not airworthy if it's engines are working?

  • @88mroux theres alot more to making an aircraft airworthy than just serviceable engines. While the engines are in good working order the airframe could very well be long past its fatigue life

  • @derro1989 why not restore those other parts of the aircraft so she can be airworthy again? After all what fun is a restored vintage aircraft when it cant fly?

  • @88mroux it would be amazing to see another airworthy lancaster, the cost is prohibitive though, even if the owners could afford to have it brought to airworthy condition, theres insurance, the cost of fuel, maintenence and all manner of hidden costs.

  • Four Merlins?

  • Definitely outside East Kirkby's hangar - my Mum was in the WRAF there during the war 1943-45.

    plum433

  • Like it?

    I love it.

  • just a question... why cant it fly?

  • @sn0wD Just Jane could easily fly, the principle reason why she cannot be cleared by the CAA to fly is because the owners refuse to modify her to the standards required by the CAA. The owners are keen to preserve Jane as a truly original Lanc. In order to be licensed to fly, she would have to undergo numerous modifications. Who knows, one day perhaps it might happen.......

  • @LIVERPOOLSCOTTISH While I understand the owners thinking. There are plenty museum Lancs that are in original condition. There is only one flying. A second would be so valuable.

  • Goering whatched and disliked. LOL, I'm gonna vote up. Good job.

  • Anybody that likes this to see these planes in flight should visit Twinwood over the August bank holiday. This is a three day event.

Log onto Twinwood Events ion your search engine to see videos'

  • My city has one that is airworthy. Great video :D luv the plane!

  • why isn`t it airworthy ?

  • for england!!!!!!!

  • I admire the technology of that era but not the way it was used. Europe today is turning into a third World sewer thanks to the draconian laws forced upon European citizens and Islam is harming the traditional people who live there. I think the question has to be asked are the liberals of Europe who they say they are or are they really closet Communists pretending to endorse Democracy? Many of these freedom restricting laws would be unconstitutional in the U.S.

  • @MrBEB123 if this or theses planes never flew and did the job, you might be speaking german

  • @MrBEB123 if this or theses planes never flew and did the job, you might be speaking german, they say history has a habbit of repeating its self, ?????

  • @harrycom99 There is nothing more I would like being I am a Nationalist in addition to German being a more cultured language than English. Western nations are being transformed into something resembling the Planet of the Apes film series and to live in a great society and culture like Germany during the 1920's and '30's would have been a great experience. Central London seems to have more non-Whites living there than Whites and the Islamic culture and Arab people do not appeal to me.

  • The problem with this aircraft is that she is at a museum which has too short a runway for the Lanc. If they got clearance for her to fly, they could get her off the ground on the runway, they would not be able to land her back there due to the shortness of the runway

  • Not to be insulting, but comparable to a B17? And what makes this old girl not airworthy? And are there any Avro Lancasters flying that we know of?

  • Only 2 air worthy Lanc's left 1 in Canada..& the 1 belonging to the battle of britain memorial flight, Just Jane here is the only other one anywhere near being ready for flight, as she can taxi under her own power. I've stood under her wing tip as the engines start up..the noise & raw power of 4 Merlins is hard to describe in words! She's owned by two brothers who lost their older brother in a Lanc during W.W.2..The B17 is a great bomber, both of the planes & thier crews helped to win the war.

  • Each one of these could carry a greater bomb load than a B17 could. The RAF boys used to invite the B17 pilots over to the base to walk under the open bomb bay of a lancaster. That used to stop their bragging. I heard one B17 pilot describe it as akin to walking into a cathedral. With bomb bay mods these girls could carry a ten ton bomb right into the heart of germany. The B17 was good but flying in the day meant more guns, limited it's bomb capacity and increased the crew.

  • Would love to see one of these fly again, put the Lanc beside a B17. What a picture and a video that would make.

  • I saw the battle of britain memorial flight lancaster start up, taxi, take off and perform a display at Waddington airshow just the other weekend. A magnificent sight! In all there were 6 merlins airborn that afternoon!

Yes it would be nice to see the B17 also, afterall they were both important. Many a brave air crew perished attempting to destroy germany's ability to fight.

  • Actually the Mosquito eventually carried more of load than the B17 - and that only had two Merlin engines and was made of plywood-balsa sandwich construction. An incredible aeroplane indeed.

  • I was once at my local motorcross track having a bit of a rest when without warning a lancaster bomber roared over head escorted by 2 supermarine spitfires. They were so low i could almost touch them. I have never felt so proud to be British. Awe inspiring. I'll probably live my whole life and never see those 3 exceptional mechanical masterpieces together in flight. "Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few".

  • To Davesax 1965. And neither will the Nazis that were fried with British and Canadian incendiary bombs that were dropped with great accuracy and success. Than God for that!!

  • Nor will the 55,000 young men in Bomber command who died to keep you free ever get their lives back. If you don't understand the significance of what you're watching, don't make infantile and insulting comments about it.

  • hahaha!!

    Davesax is cool!!

its very significant afronthunde6 u must understand this. Every man shud see an aeroplane taxing then coming back its essential to ur mannhood. isnt it Davesax??

  • Haha as I said before to Davesax I'm not disrespecting the guys who flew up there just the boring video. Get your facts right Dave ;)

  • @Afrothunde6 you tit

  • That thing is HUGE!!!! I've been in the cockpit of one before.

  • At £170 to have a taxi ride in her is far too exspensive for what you get

  • Magnificent

  • Wow!

Those engines are sweet. They are the nicest and easiest starting Merlins I've heard in a very long time. It's a tribute to the guys who maintain them. There's a lot of hours and love gone into those engines. Thanks for recording it.

  • Hi, great video. 5/5 from me.

I had a NX611 ride last year. What an experience. A fantastic day, well worth saving up for. Recommend to anyone with a bomber command interest.

But, isnt this the former RAF East Kirkby? As far as I know, Spilsby was a nearby satellite for East Kirkby. Just Jane now resides at East Kirkby, not Spilsby. Or am I missing something? (wouldnt be the first time!)

Great vid! watched it three times.

  • Wow, wold love to go on a ride like that.

You may be right about the East Kirkby. I'm quite not sure where it was filmed - It's just that that tape says "Spilsby" but I can't actually remember where we went to film it.

  • If you fancy a Just Jane taxi ride, you should Google 'Licolnshire Aviation Heritage'.

I have made a video response above of my day with Jane. Enjoy!

  • Yes thats right this is RAF East Kirkby!

RAF Spilsby is north east of here between the villages of Great Steeping and Monksthorpe. It is known locally as 'Steeping Airfield' now.

There is a memorial there but very little is left of the actual airfield. Just a hanger, and some small buildings on private land.

  • Changed the video title, thanks!

  • @Boggie1277 The hanger there is not original - but the control tower is.

  • truely amazin....just enjoy....
