i have a long haired miniature dachshund silver dapple with a blue eye and a brown eye he looked very much like the angry puppy, hes mad he sleeps on his back, stands up and moves hes front paws up and down, but the funniest isif he gets wet he goes crazy and starts running super fast all over the house like something possessed but best of all even if i go out for five minutes or hours when i come back hes super happy to see me and knows its time for a famous tummy rub.

Why get a puppy or bread them?

There are so many animals out there who have come from abusive homes or places where they were hoarded. All they want are loving home rather than staying in shelters for the rest of their lives or being put down... Or why not help a dog who is handy-caped? I have a dog that has 3 legs and was going to be put down because no one wanted her because she has 3 legs! Now in a loving home she is just like any other dog!

My friend tells me this.Don't blame breeders Pure breed breeding is not the cause of abandoned dogs. Blame pet stores that only sell for money, they don't care for the dog, they hardly take care of them they put them on a silver platter and sell for so much more then what a breeders fee would be and breeders provide them with a healthy environment and take care of them.

It's not just the puppy mills, it's the millions of people who feel like they shouldn't bother to spay and neuter their pets and having backyard litters that are doing most of the damage. I guarantee you most of the dogs you see in a shelter started life as part of a backyard litter.

People come up with excuses such as "oh, you never know how a dog will act once it's been abused" This is why shelters do TEMPERAMENT TESTING. They will let you know if the dog has issues with kids, is reactive towards other dogs etc. For the most part, they are all loving, stable dogs. It's not wrong to buy a puppy from a REPUTABLE breeder, but shelter pups deserve a chance @ a loving family too.

@CaneCorsoLuvr Any dog, even if it has been abused, can be brought home to any environment. All you need to have is... rules, boundaries and limitations. You need consistency and a stable home. You need to be able to understand a dog and how they develop phobias. If you comfort a dog when it is scared or reacts badly, you reinforce that behavior. However if you correct them and wait for them to figure out how to react properly and THEN give praise... you will never have any problems.

And also trained on how to properly work with a dog and understand dog psychology. Temperament testing is ridiculous because a dogs temperament is not permanent. All they need is a balanced life with LOTS of walks.

I begged him to rescue this adorable little mutt puppy that looked like a beagle, dachshund, and maybe jack russell mix, but he said no because it might of had "bad genes". Let's face it, some people are very picky about genes and breed. Believe me, i want to run a dog shelter rescue and make people understand that shelter dogs are just as good, if not better, than fancy pure breds with special pedigrees!

On a side note-I'd take a backyard puppy over a breeder anyday. This obviously isn't a puppy mill and they're obviously very well socialized, happy little pups. I don't understand why people assume that a breeder will have the perfect family pet. I don't want a show dog, I want a loving, well adjusted PET.

I do agree that adopting from shelters is a good thing but frankly, with kids, I'd rather know where my dog came from.

Well, even if you are buying from a breeder, you're supposed to perform a background check, inspect the area where the puppies and dogs are kept and cared for, meet the adult dogs, and interact with the puppies to make sure that, yes, they were/are well-cared for and well-adjusted. So, it's by no means a sure thing, but getting from a breeder does allow for this kind of inspection. The "breeder is better" line is usually only towed up in comparison to pet stores, from what I've seen.

A good way to adopt an animal is to do it through a rescue organization that lets the dogs stay with foster families.
