Several famous people made their earliest TV appearances in Comet ads with Ms. Withers, including Louise Lasser (Mary Hartman) and Robby Benson. Is Jane still with us? I remember seeing her in an episode of "The Munsters" playing Herman's doctor's wife, and then seeing one of her "Josephine the Plumber" commercials five minutes later in the same episode.

I remember one commercial for Comet where Josephine was using a stainless steel sink instead of a porcelain one, and she said, "Stainless doesn't look after itself. You have to keep it nice".

We've got stainless steel sinks on the railway in our galleys. I only clean half of it (but we use anti-bacterial wipes), and I've told some of the younger kids (I'm 54) that it looks like an ad for Comet. They look at me with a puzzled look and ask, "An ad for what??" I feel so old. lol.

I remember as a kid believing that Josephine the Plumber was a real person. And she seemed like such a nice lady! I was disillusioned to later see her staring in one of Shirley Temple's movies when they were both about 8 yrs old. I am feeling so beyond middle age, now!

Just what we put in ours today. Thank God they stopped installing porcelain sinks in "most" homes today or we would be having the same problems.

She sort of looks like her. Don't know...but I remember this add on TV. They sure sprinkled a lot for that stain. They were then, like they are now...they want you to use the product up fast so you'll spend your money real soon again. Manufacturers can be real pricks often, especially today.
