Hey I saw the mouse at the beginning, were you playing this on a newer computer? I used to play on an atari st but it died. I'd love to get it working again under windows or linux. Can you post how you were doing it?
Great vid btw. I can see you would whip me at this game!
Probably the hardest and steepest learning curve of any game but if you stuck with it you were rewarded with the greatest gaming experience when it all finally fell into place.
Fantastic game - as good today as it was back then - the true test of a classic imo 8)
And I'm not the only one who thinks so - I was thrilled to discover the kick off association where players across the whole of Europe are still active today and gather together to chat as well as plan local, national and international tournaments, face to face and online!!
No matter how long its been since you've had a game ...
Best game I've ever played anyway. Played it for hours and hours, Worlds cups, the whole lot. Didnt look great but the gameplay was amazing. Better than any 3d soccer game I've ever played.
I still play it with my brother on the good ol' ST.
The gameplay is incredible once you get a hang of it!
20 years of hardcore battling - and still, when we play it.. It's about keepin it cool and no slip ups. Thriller! -I wonder if other people still play..
This game was excellent and made some creative use for rasters considering the ST was pretty limited as far as fullscreen scrolling was concerned (this was before sync-scrolling had been introduced in commercial games).
There were basically 3 aspects of sync-scrolling: 1) To make a working one, that worked on all shifters on all the ST-versions around. 2) To make it less CPU-intensive. This was really not much of an issue as we are talking about ranges of 5-8 scanlines (my memory might fail me now) used.
3) To make it more adaptable and by that I basically mean to avoid using up registers. This was not much of an issue either. It was possible to make sync-scrollers using direct addressing thus enabling the use of registers to be avoided.
I am perfectly sure that more people than the Thalion guys knew how to make working sync-scrollers leaning on the forementioned criteria. I think it was more a question of Thalion having the strongest link to the demo-scene, i.e. access to the best coders which made using a hardware-flaw acceptable.
Eventhough i'm a complete lamer when it comes to coding, i am sure a whole lot of people could do sync scrolling. I just meant that i didn't really see it in commercial games except of a couple of Thalion / Eclipse games. At least i can't think of one and that makes me think that many of the software houses, even the big ones of those days did not have the know how to use these techniques.
the number of hours me and my mates would spend pn this - and they didnt even bother to put nets on the goals (amiga version did i think) - Classic, still more realistic than many footie games today - God bless Dino Dini!
i cant believe this is online!! i love this game!! i thought i was the only one .. hahaha awesome ! did you emulate it on the pc?

The goalkeeping for the first goal was as poor as Paul Robinson for England, butter fingers

Kick off's looks are kinda bad. But the gfx are functional and the gameplay is awesome for a footie game.

I wonder you can call sync scrolling as being introduced. As far as i know only Thalion/Eclipse knew how to use it in commercial games.
