@trueflyingsheep No, KDE is a free desktop environment available for most operating systems that a derivative of Ubuntu called Kubuntu uses. It's not part of the Ubuntu project, it's its own.
KDE was designed from the start to be a cross platform desktop. But, until recently, Qt (which KDE is made with, in case you didn't know) did not allow free development on Windows or OS X. A developer for KDE said, "Why should we artificially limit KDE to one platform?" KDE is NOT a linux project. Also, by opening up the Windows world, KDE will receive more contributions (wink, wink).
It's nice to have choice, even if it's not something we would choose for ourselves.
i could see this being useful for someone who wants to try Plasma without installing Linux or running a Live CD. Or for someone who dual boots Linux and Windows, and would like to have the same widgets in both OSes.
Also, Plasma looks like one of the most flexible widget engines available in terms of widget support and development. Being crossplatform means even more support which benefits all users.
@vhbil games, music production, and graphical design prevent some of us from doing those things. I agree though to a certain extent - try installing and running linux if you have a spare HDD, or run it if you don't do anything dependent on windows!

@milesmeloro as if i didn’t know that. what i wanted to tell @linuxuser432 is that kubuntu = ubuntu.
the problem is that there is no name for gnome ubuntu. let’s call it “gubuntu”. gubuntu is as much part of ubuntu as kubuntu is.
was that somehow clear (i’m not too good with english)?

I agree. However, if KDE for Windows became stable, I might just use Windows more, which I don't have a problem with. Didn't I pay for it?
cbh2000 2 years ago
@cbh2000 Doesn't mean u should be using it!
Say.. You have a 10 year old car, you paid for it. Suddenly, a BMW drops from the sky. Which one would you use?
LoloftheRings 1 year ago
@LoloftheRings Ha ha ha! That is funny, and basically true.
Also, I recently removed Windows from my computer, so I no longer have the temptation...
I believe that Linux-based operating systems have great potential. KDE proves it.

@LoloftheRings If the BMW fell from the sky, I believe the question is: is it drive-able?

it's what some would call a "trojan horse" get them to use the desktop environment and the transition to linux is seemless.

@vhbil One legit way is you are intelligent enough to use Linux but at work they use 'Doze. This way you could then run KDE style at work.

Because If I'm running Linux. I'd much rather be running Gnome 3.
