I transferred all of my father's old film footage using a movie projector and screen and a video camera. Came out very well! My wife sent some films to a service like this and it really wasn't any better.
It is unlikely to get a good transfer from recording projected film on video camera. Even with the best conditions possible, most video cameras dont match the frame rates of film, so you would get a flicker in your final video as well as the sliding of the film. The film would also lose contrast and detail when projected. As for trying another service, some other companies that claim to have HD film transfer services dont scan their film frame by frame at 1080HD like we do.

Is there no other solution for cleaning the film other than dragging it through a rag? I already have enough scratches.
