unless you understand electronics and accesability,functionality,and sexy, the iphone will always be the leader! I can understand those out there who have not owned one so those people with an addictive personality, the iphone is like a drug you cannot put down!!! My opinion the only thing that would beat the iphone(not mainstream wise, apple will be in that section for a while) is the htc hd 2, palm pre's commercials don't catch me, I don't think it catches anyone's eyes :P . Iphone is way more mainstream and I know it does more. But in my opinion htc hd 2 will be the top dog when it comes out.

People want iphones just for its name, and i think iphones simplicity is a big factor too, as i said it just feels nice in your hand and is fun to look at.

Plus you have to look at this from a non geek perspective too. the iphone is beautiful, simple, and everyone wants one cause its an iphone, its a trophy, and it feels good in your hand, plus the marketing is incredible, and so many people love it and its appstore

Sprint is a horrid carrier and pre mad a huge error going with Sprint...Sprint will eventually get bought out by one of the major 3 carriers....you can make excuses of shortages, unexpected (make believe) sales...but bottom line is sales of the phone are soft
Sprint is the third largest carrier, and arguably has the best network in metropolitan areas. It just bought Virgin Mobile. And the other carriers can't just buy out Sprint without the government stepping in. And Blackberry is outpacing the iphone in sales FYI.

Owner of Palm Pre. The multi-tasking is definitely bomb! You are able to listen to music & go online at the same time, & if you get a text, you just put the app aside, reply, & go back to where you were. The slide out keyboard is great too cus of its accuracy. As for the apps, they are still young but its only a matter of time 'till it launches new & better apps. Its small, sleek, and easy to get use to. The iphone and pre are definitely up there. In the end, all the pre needs is time.

as far as phones the pre is the better of the two if you compare apps of course the iphone has itunes which has more apps but as far as phones look at the reviews the only thing the iphone can do is turn on faster but who really cares i cant even remember the last time i turned my phone off my ipod touch does everything the iphone does except make calls and take pics but i dont pay monthly

lol the I Phone isn't even the best selling handset in either the UK or US (blackberry bold and Nokia Xpress music phone sold more) and they can barely give it away in Japan. I think what it comes down to is personal preference. ie the I Phone has larger capacities and the App store, and the Pre can multitask, has a physical keyboard and is more pocketable. No phone will completely defeat the I Phone no,but its quite unlikely that the I Phone will enjoy the same level of success as the I Pods

Takes time to bring out an App store with lots of Applications. It took Apple over a year to get all those Apps. It did not happen over night so i don't understand why people are bagging on the Pre and other companies just starting their App stores when it took Apple some time to get theirs off the ground.

It took iPhone over a year to create the market of the App Store, before the app store and the iPhone, there was no major online distribution of useful apps for any mobile device of that magnitude. 15 years ago if a tv wasnt flat and 2 inches thin, it was no big deal because lcd's werent common. Now, try releasing a cathode ray tube tv as a new product, even hd, and you'll see it fail as its competing with a new market. People expect to be able to buy apps from a huge library from go.

You iPhone people are too focused on the beloved app store. SDK is out, WebOS is simply easier to write for. Ahead iPhone is in apps, but catching up in apps will take nothing but a little time. Every praising the app store doesn't and will never understand...THAT DOESNT MATTER...It just doesnt matter. What matters is being able to adjust to the market. And with Palm predicting Apple's moves and Apple's slow progress rate the app store no longer matters it simply does not matter...

Only problems so far that I can come up with for the Palm Pre is that it cannot download music straight from the device like the other palm phones, or that it cannot forward msgs, take video's, so far i havent even learned how to cancel one call when two are open...it definitly takes more than a couple of days to understand fully..i'm still waiting for updates to see how it will change

EX: Say I want to listen to music on my phone (its a pretty common venture), Well say I also need to send a text message. Rather than closing out of Pandora (which takes forever to load) I can simply push in the center button flip over to messaging answer or write a new message all while continuing to listen to music, and you could use that same scenario for web browsing, games, ect..

The iPhones camera is kinda shit, when compared to most cellphone cameras, even my aged Nokia n73 has a nicer camera than the currecnt 3GS topped with a nice usable Flash!! My phone is great at making calls, taking pics, texting and emailing, and it takes a fucking beating lol!
I do own a Pre, and I like it a lot. It has the features I need in a smartphone. The contacts features and calendar features are superior to any phone I had used in the past. . Running multiple applications at the same time is wonderful. And most importantly for me, a slide out keyboard. I've tried phones with the on-screen keyboards, and unfortunately with my fingers, I get to many errors. Otherwise I probaly would own either an I-phone or Blackberry storm or such.

Well, Apple's App Store is probably the most extensive for a mobile device, and I think it's just silly to say that most of the apps are remakes. Nine of the 10 top paid apps on the app store aren't remakes, and the one that is (Assassin's Creed) is completely redone for the iPhone.
Also, iPhone has more storage, a larger display, built-in video downloading, cut/copy/paste un-editable text, video recording, auto-focus camera, glass display cover, and way more accessories. I could go on, too...
I have all the rest on my Samsung Omnia, And will have a little better speed than the iphone 3GS and better overall than the Iphone 3GS when i get my Omnia HD.
Why are all Apple iPhone commercials engulfed in only displaying the app store? It is because that is all they have. And soon that will even been taken from them as users can write more easily for WebOS (SDK released). Pre has cut copy paste, which is an ability that took Apple 2 years to develop. I don't think the palm pre is the number 2 phone....more like number 10....there are atleast 3 phones from HTC that are better, 2 from Samsung, and 2 from Sony, so how can you say it's the second best phone out there? I have a Sprint store right near where I live...when Palm pre was released out of curiousity I went to the store.....there was hardly anyone thereI'd say 5 ppl waiting outside....on the other hand I went to the ATT store when Iphone 3g-s was released and there was 35-40 ppl waiting outside the store before it even opened...
The biggest thing the palm pre has against it ......is Sprint! Sprint sucks....if it was with T-mobile it would have a better chance and would've been marketed better. The world standard is GSM protocol....if you're not on GSM then you're in the stone age.....It's not that Iphone isn't a great phone but being on a GSM carrier it will have a much larger following since there are 3-4 times as many GSM customers then there are CDMA....Enough said! : )
The Palm Pre is better to me, maybe not to you. Ive been using palm for years you forget to talk about its classic app, that lets you run over 20,000 apps on it, plus the SDK isnt evan out yet and its giving the iphone a run for its money. It still sold out in every sprint store here where i live. and bestbuy requires a $50 deposit just to get on the waiting list
SDK is released and the programms can be programmed much faster then for the iphone... and the iphone has no real keyboard and no real good multitasking

the new Iphone 3gS has added only a few things but not much has changed...i phone only has 2 or 3 advatages over the pre...and the keyboard is damn sure not one of them...but I still say iphone is number one because like this video says."it is a more mature device, more established" but the PRe can actually do more...and produces the quality results of a REAL smartphone. Ok people relax...I have both phones...and here are my points...the Pre's brand new OS does indeed trump the i phone. the i phone however has experience...the Pre is only a baby in this...and I wouldnt say it is an iphone killer BUT it can match the i phone feature to feature and then some. remember people the iphone just recently started to be considered as a smart phone. (due to the app store) but it pales in comparison to palm's ability to act as a business and document device

the first minute of you talking about how much better the internet is on the pre, beat out everythin else you said. Safari sucks, and I have a mac, but I had to download frefox because safari sucks. And the SDK took a couple months to be released on the iphone too when it came out.
I was going to do iphone since I got a mac and want to keep it in the family, but one thing you didnt mention is that AT&T charges a buttload, while sprint doesnt. palm pre may be #2 but, its more economical.

Yes. The iPhone can multitask, but only a few of Apple's stock apps. Apple has the capability to add multitasking to the iPhone right now, but chooses not to because of battery life. Can you last a whole day without charging your Pre? You can't? So sad.

R U joking about simultaneous voice/data - I have a pre and can talk on my bluetooth while copying and pasting from a text into an email or vice versa and send it all at the same time. U must not know the difference between sprint and verizons networks compared to att. ATT network is comparably in the stone-age as far as multi data usage and segregating networks so being on the internet doesnt slow connection in calling mode - but u wouldn't know about that.
Another big fact to mention is that both Android and WebOS are open source platforms, which means openness to the user. Unlike your locked down Iphone, I will say Iphone was cool at release but i'm sorry the phone hasn't changed much. Not to mention being on ATT in the US is destroying the potential for them. Both Android and WebOS will be around a lot longer then Iphone OS will be. Just wait and see

There's a rumor that a big computer company may purchase Palm and enhance the application store, if this shall happen. You may see thousands of apps developed in the Palm Catalog withing a few months. I had my Palm Pre for 4 days and it's truly amazing especially the multi-tasking abilities. I love Apple products too but I think the Pre definitely has an edge over the Iphone, at least for now.

My opinion the only thing that would beat the iphone(not mainstream wise, apple will be in that section for a while) is the htc hd 2, palm pre's commercials don't catch me, I don't think it catches anyone's eyes :P . Iphone is way more mainstream and I know it does more. But in my opinion htc hd 2 will be the top dog when it comes out.

People want iphones just for its name, and i think iphones simplicity is a big factor too, as i said it just feels nice in your hand and is fun to look at.

The iphones appstore allow it to pretty much do anything, and you can jailbreak to do even more. Owner of Palm Pre. The multi-tasking is definitely bomb! You are able to listen to music & go online at the same time, & if you get a text, you just put the app aside, reply, & go back to where you were. The slide out keyboard is great too cus of its accuracy. As for the apps, they are still young but its only a matter of time 'till it launches new & better apps. Its small, sleek, and easy to get use to. The iphone and pre are definitely up there. In the end, all the pre needs is time.

lol the I Phone isn't even the best selling handset in either the UK or US (blackberry bold and Nokia Xpress music phone sold more) and they can barely give it away in Japan. I think what it comes down to is personal preference. ie the I Phone has larger capacities and the App store, and the Pre can multitask, has a physical keyboard and is more pocketable. No phone will completely defeat the I Phone no,but its quite unlikely that the I Phone will enjoy the same level of success as the I Pods

It took iPhone over a year to create the market of the App Store, before the app store and the iPhone, there was no major online distribution of useful apps for any mobile device of that magnitude. 15 years ago if a tv wasnt flat and 2 inches thin, it was no big deal because lcd's werent common. Now, try releasing a cathode ray tube tv as a new product, even hd, and you'll see it fail as its competing with a new market. People expect to be able to buy apps from a huge library from go.

Only problems so far that I can come up with for the Palm Pre is that it cannot download music straight from the device like the other palm phones, or that it cannot forward msgs, take video's, so far i havent even learned how to cancel one call when two are open...it definitly takes more than a couple of days to understand fully..i'm still waiting for updates to see how it will change

Oh hell yeah brotha. I love stirring up hot water. Any how, multi tasking is the key to human survival baby. EX: Say I want to listen to music on my phone (its a pretty common venture), Well say I also need to send a text message. Rather than closing out of Pandora (which takes forever to load) I can simply push in the center button flip over to messaging answer or write a new message all while continuing to listen to music, and you could use that same scenario for web browsing, games, ect..

Im gonna keep it nice. My friend at the end of the day the winner is not who has the best phone currently out on the market. The winner will be the company that can remain a step ahead. And with ex-apple engineers and designers on Palm's side, everyone of Apple's moves will be predicted. Technology is a funny thing. You go out buy a brand new computer TOP OF THE LINE ya know, but the funny thing is is that a better one is on an assembly line just waiting to be shipped and deemed even better

The iPhones camera is kinda shit, when compared to most cellphone cameras, even my aged Nokia n73 has a nicer camera than the currecnt 3GS topped with a nice usable Flash!! My phone is great at making calls, taking pics, texting and emailing, and it takes a fucking beating lol!

I do own a Pre, and I like it a lot. It has the features I need in a smartphone. The contacts features and calendar features are superior to any phone I had used in the past. . Running multiple applications at the same time is wonderful. And most importantly for me, a slide out keyboard. I've tried phones with the on-screen keyboards, and unfortunately with my fingers, I get to many errors. Otherwise I probaly would own either an I-phone or Blackberry storm or such.

Well, Apple's App Store is probably the most extensive for a mobile device, and I think it's just silly to say that most of the apps are remakes. Nine of the 10 top paid apps on the app store aren't remakes, and the one that is (Assassin's Creed) is completely redone for the iPhone.
Also, iPhone has more storage, a larger display, built-in video downloading, cut/copy/paste un-editable text, video recording, auto-focus camera, glass display cover, and way more accessories. I could go on, too...

Why are all Apple iPhone commercials engulfed in only displaying the app store? It is because that is all they have. And soon that will even been taken from them as users can write more easily for WebOS (SDK released). Pre has cut copy paste, which is an ability that took Apple 2 years to develop. Send a picture with your 3g I dare you. I mean sure the iPhone is great to buy for your teen or maybe for a child to play with some random sound producing apps sure I will give it that.

I don't think the palm pre is the number 2 phone....more like number 10....there are atleast 3 phones from HTC that are better, 2 from Samsung, and 2 from Sony, so how can you say it's the second best phone out there? I have a Sprint store right near where I live...when Palm pre was released out of curiousity I went to the store.....there was hardly anyone thereI'd say 5 ppl waiting outside....on the other hand I went to the ATT store when Iphone 3g-s was released and there was 35-40 ppl waiting outside the store before it even opened...

The biggest thing the palm pre has against it ......is Sprint! Sprint sucks....if it was with T-mobile it would have a better chance and would've been marketed better. The world standard is GSM protocol....if you're not on GSM then you're in the stone age.....It's not that Iphone isn't a great phone but being on a GSM carrier it will have a much larger following since there are 3-4 times as many GSM customers then there are CDMA....Enough said! : )

The Palm Pre is better to me, maybe not to you. Ive been using palm for years you forget to talk about its classic app, that lets you run over 20,000 apps on it, plus the SDK isnt evan out yet and its giving the iphone a run for its money. It still sold out in every sprint store here where i live. and bestbuy requires a $50 deposit just to get on the waiting list
so give it more time and well see!

the new Iphone 3gS has added only a few things but not much has changed...i phone only has 2 or 3 advatages over the pre...and the keyboard is damn sure not one of them...but I still say iphone is number one because like this video says."it is a more mature device, more established" but the PRe can actually do more...and produces the quality results of a REAL smartphone. The Pre is a good alternative with better service the Iphone is the King of the mountain. to say it wont surpass is biased

Ok people relax...I have both phones...and here are my points...the Pre's brand new OS does indeed trump the i phone. the i phone however has experience...the Pre is only a baby in this...and I wouldnt say it is an iphone killer BUT it can match the i phone feature to feature and then some. remember people the iphone just recently started to be considered as a smart phone. the first minute of you talking about how much better the internet is on the pre, beat out everythin else you said. Safari sucks, and I have a mac, but I had to download frefox because safari sucks. And the SDK took a couple months to be released on the iphone too when it came out.
I was going to do iphone since I got a mac and want to keep it in the family, but one thing you didnt mention is that AT&T charges a buttload, while sprint doesnt. palm pre may be #2 but, its more economical.

jus give palm a few months to get the sdk out...dont forget it took apple a whole year to come out with apps and the 1 gen wasnt even 3g... nonetheless....when the sdk comes out it will rival the iphone mabye even be better than it. because making apps for the pre will be a whole lot easier . for example pandora said it took them 8 weeks to write the programing for the iphone but for the pre it took them a week...i think when the sdk comes out it wont take them too long to catch up to the iphone

Seriously, stop comparing the Pre to the 2 year old iPhone. It's the iPhone 3GS vs. the Pre, and the 3GS easily wins.
Also, keep in mind that Apple entered the smartphone business only 2 years ago and Palm has been in since the beginning, and Apple is far ahead of Palm now.
I think the Pre is awesome, though. I completely agree with SoldierKnowsBest. Pre is the best phone on Sprint, second best period. The 3GS is the only phone ahead of the Pre now.

Yes. The iPhone can multitask, but only a few of Apple's stock apps. Apple has the capability to add multitasking to the iPhone right now, but chooses not to because of battery life. Can you last a whole day without charging your Pre? You can't? So sad.

R U joking about simultaneous voice/data - I have a pre and can talk on my bluetooth while copying and pasting from a text into an email or vice versa and send it all at the same time. U must not know the difference between sprint and verizons networks compared to att. ATT network is comparably in the stone-age as far as multi data usage and segregating networks so being on the internet doesnt slow connection in calling mode - but u wouldn't know about that.

Another big fact to mention is that both Android and WebOS are open source platforms, which means openness to the user. Unlike your locked down Iphone, I will say Iphone was cool at release but i'm sorry the phone hasn't changed much. Not to mention being on ATT in the US is destroying the potential for them. There's a rumor that a big computer company may purchase Palm and enhance the application store, if this shall happen. You may see thousands of apps developed in the Palm Catalog withing a few months. I had my Palm Pre for 4 days and it's truly amazing especially the multi-tasking abilities. I love Apple products too but I think the Pre definitely has an edge over the Iphone, at least for now.
