Many do not understand the basic idea behind taal - that it's a rythm after all. Given a fixed number of beats there can be a lot of variations. So 6 beats should be dadra after all. Excellent lesson.
thanks so much venkat, pay not attention to these hypocrites who say you shouldnt be teaaching, they are full of ego.
thanks so much for your efforts, and just for the record I have been studying 5 years with my Guruji in the lucknow gharana, and think what he is doing is fine!
Sir Thank you very much for posting these lessons, you are doing a great service to all of us by sharing your knowledge. It is unfortunate that India is rich with so many wonderful instruments, yet there is not that many instruction sources available, that may have discouraged a lot of enthuisats of Indian music, you are great, I love your lessons.
Another one to add to venkat's dadra's is - Dha Ta The : Dha Dha The. The first dha making a closed "ghe", the first The being executed with "Ke", and the last two dha's with an open "ghe".
When you play tin or dhin, it should be a loose note. That means that your finger should "bounce" of the tabla and you should get an open sound. Same with ta and na and dha. Whn you play Ti-ta, they should be closed and your finger should stay on the tabla for the duration of the note.
Much appreciated. Can you do me a HUGE favor and spell out the bols for this one? I only know a few, and I'm unfamiliar with Te+Ga. I think it would be Dhe, but I have learned to play Dhe as Ti+Ge. If you could spell these out I'd appreciate it very much. Thanks again for all your hard work.
lol u seem to have a problem remembering your bols there.u also not 2 familiar with playin them...give me a call if u want help,il be very pleased 2 do so

Thanks for viewing. There are many variations in Dadra. The simple one is
Dha Din Na : Na Tin Na
Others are
Dha Dhin Dhin : Na Tin Dhin
Dha Dhin Dhin : NaKa Dhin Dhin
Dhin Na Na : Tin Na Na
Dha TiRi Kita : Na TiRi KiTa
DhaDhi Na GiNa : Na DhiNa GiNa

A couple of things:
