@john17972 Actually at thier respective range, heavy handgun loads do just the same amount of damage to a body that a rifle round would. Because, in some cases, the slower the bullet, the more damage. Besides, rifle ammo would make handgun magazines look so strange lol
the regular bullet is called full metal jacket thats what the fmj stands for on the box and if it says fmjbt that means its a full metal jacket with a boat tail which means its tapered on the end to create and envelope for the air to flow smoothly around the bullet and while the hollow point does do more damage at short range the fmj continues to do damage with accuracy
@Dragonfuzz66 Well, what do you think? A hollow point wouldn't flatten in mid-air, it flattens out when it hits something solid like bone or cartilage.
Terrible backstop guys, shooting into a solid rock face could cause a ricochet with disastrous results . Safety first, sometimes there is no second chance.

The military went to a smaller .223 (or 5.56x45mm NATO) round around just after WWII because it actually does less damage. it goes right through it's target, clean. It will put someone out of commission but not kill them. The reasoning behind this: on average it takes two additional soldiers to care for a wounded person. If their comrade is dead, they will keep on fighting. Better to wound one and take out three... Make sense?

I just like the way you guys made your own hollow point.
And yes you can purchase them all day long. One common vendor of HP .223 Rem is Wolf Ammo from RU. I shoot them all day long because they are cheap. I do however prefer to shoot M183 ball.
@ufailhard1 That is another huge difference between Canada and the USA. The only hollow point rounds you can get here (to the best of my knowledge) are .22. I was in the Canadian Army and that ID up here gets you S.F.A.
Confirmed. All countries that are signature members of the Geneva Convention, have agreed not to use HP ammo. They only use ball ammo as it is the most humane way of inflicting death on someone according to some studies.
@ufailhard1 i will and def check otu Ranger Talon i know in 9mm the +p+ not many can handle that shit, its an improved Black talon for "law enforcement only" bullllshit. haha
@ufailhard1 check out the video for wolf hollow points. they didnt even expand and went through 4 one gallion jugs of water. from how i was taught its all about shot placement. i guarentee a shot on the leg wont do as much damage as one taken center mass.
@ufailhard1 thats what i was talking about, unless you are going to pay an arm and a leg not all HP are the same. ill still take a fmj or Vmax (Hornandy tap FTW)
a GOOD HIGH QUALITY hollow point retard. theres soooo many different types of hollow point rounds you can get cheapo walmart WWB hpthat would be inconsistent. or some real good ones like ranger talon, hydroshock, barnes, hornandy, gold dot, and your paying about 1.30 per round. would you trust a WOLF hollow point over any of those if you had a choice in ammunition?
hp are not the end all see all. For hunting purposes if you cant pierce deep enough the hp wont do you any good except just leave another wounded animal whereas if you shot it with a solid it will go deeper for the kill
Remember fellow Americans! We shouldn't lower ourselves to other peoples' levels just because they try to insult our intellegence when the comments they make show how stupid they are compared to us for making such a ridiculous statement!
@BFHGuy Are you fucking stupid? The .223 round was designed to inflict a more severe wound channel without needing a "hollow point". The round tumbles through flesh and rips you apart, yeah a .223 round wont destroy you. You're an idiot, I'm tired of COD commandos on videos about real guns.
@IVSpod The Army replaced its green tip ammo with the hollow point because the standard FMJ wasn't knocking anyone down in Iraq. When we 1st went in only soldiers with th M-4 carbine were given JHP to make up for the reduced muzzel velocity. But it was noticed that the M-4 guys were the only ones knocking people down. I used to hate the M-16 thinking it was the small caliber's fault I couldn't knock down the bad guys. It was the ammo!!!
@4Tcal I hope they didnt replace it with an expanding jacketed hollow point because that would technically be in violation of certain aspects of the geneva convention. Im guessing that you're just making shit up. If you're not then I'm seriously disappointed in the United States military.
@IVSpod It is made by FNH the same people that make the green tip eco ammo and the machine guns M249 SAW and the M240B for the U.S.Military in South Carolina. I asked a Sgt about that and the rule is only soldiers of recognized nation are covered. Insurgents are not protected by the conventions of war. So get the fuck over yourself. Because if all I have is a 203 grenade left to take out an attacker I am blowing that mutherfucker up.
@IVSpod Name calling? You get offended so easily it is retarded. Not even going to get into the little minded internet trash talk losers engage in. The hell with you. fag.
Yeah but it's fairly established that the .223 round is particularly unstable in material because of it's light weight and high velocity. Where the wound channel from a .30-06 is usually straight through with a bulge in the middle (the place where it tumbled) it usually only tumbles once within a single wound channel. The .223 creates a more eradic wound channel because it's more easily effected by changes in tissue density than the larger (and heavier) .30 caliber rounds. see now?
@IVSpod Hey smart ass. Why do you think all the miltary forces in the world arn't allowed to use hollow point rounds. Cause their way more deadly. The FMJ will tumble in you but chances are it will also pop out of you. Where a JHP will not come out and you will die faster
@lmeirelesxo This has nothing to do with the argument I made. I pointed out that I would hope the army isn't using expanding hollowpoints in violation of the geneva convention. I was told to get over myself. Obviously some people do not appreciate my suggestion that the US military could be doing something at least possibly immoral. Please note that I fully and completely support the service of United States soldiers. What I dont like is the idea that we would compromise our values to win.
@IVSpod The Us military wouldn't use hollow point rounds, normal bullets have increased penetration, hollow point rounds are less aerodynamic, resulting in less range, they also will not penetrate body armor. So no, we do not use hollow point rounds in warfare. I think they are actually used in police weapons to avoid a bullet going through someones house and killing an innocent person, but I'm not entirely sure.
@ExplosiveChickens I think you're right on the police weapons thing. Yeah, it always make me laugh when I hear rappers talking about hollow points that go through vests, I was under the impression that they could be stopped way easier than a FMJ.
@IVSpod Of course! Hollow points wont go through a vest, it will either shatter or get crushed once it impacts. With police, since they are at close ranges, using hollowpoint rounds is more effective and will take down an unarmored enemy quickly. Personally, I wanna see a police officer use a varmint grenade, but that's just my preference ;D
I heard they are also used for situations where the criminal must be killed as quickly as possible before anyone else, dies, eg, if a nutcase starts shooting in a mall.
@ExplosiveChickens The military doesn't use hollow points because there is a convention (not sure if its the geneva or another but I know its out there) that says the "expanding" bullets are illegal in war.
@ExplosiveChickens actually its the only reason "expanding" bullets would be FUCKN amazing in afghanistan right now 99% of combatants are not wearing armor which is great if we could use "expanding" rounds but we can't. The ball ammo we use right now is ok under 500 yards but out past that its not very lethal. With "expanding" rounds that could be extend out farther.
@armypenguin a budy of mine snuck 2 combat loads of fragmentary 5.56mm rounds to the stan almost got away with it to 6 months in to the deployment he headed home for leave and while he was gone some asshole was diging through his stuff and noteced the ammo and rated him out though they didnt do anything to bad to him probably because he is Bat shit crazy and every time he gets blown up (3 times so far) he winds up crazier good guy to have on your team though.
@ExplosiveChickens actualy it was the Hage convention that baned "The Contracting Parties agree to abstain from the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core, or is pierced with incisions." the the Geniva convention mosty focust on the treatment of POWs
@IVSpod On cod, there's no distinction between hollow point and other kinds of bullets, so I don't know where you got that idea from. Hollow points always do more damage than non hollow, that's not to say that a .223 won't do damage as well, just not as much as a hollow point.
@IVSpod I knew what you were saying, I was just pointing out that on cod there is no real focus on the difference between hollow point and non hollow.
@IVSpod just saying I have a lot of fist hand experiance with the results of millitary 5.56mm rounds and once again THEY DO NOT TUMBLE and no that is not my opinion it is a well documented fact
Dude the military uses a different barrel then what civilians do, and its that barrel that puts the certain amount of spin on the bullet that make it tumble.
@RaidingFeral The differences in the twist rates are for stabilizing bullets of different weights. I can go buy a rifle with the exact same twist rate as the military rifles or I could buy one with a different twist rate. It has nothing to do with the way the bullet reacts in tissue, the matching of a bullet weight to the appropriate twist rate will help stabilize it's flight through the air (making it more accurate). I understand why you might have been confused though.
@IVSpod actully they both do the same but a hollow exspands in half the time the "regular" ammo he stated are the rounds used in war as hollows are illegal by the gerniver convension but the hollow pionts are useless on anything in rifles but 22 callibur the wreck the range of the gun
@blueeyesseto First learn to spell. then go find any box of hollow point bullets and look at the ballistics on that bullet. aint gonna be much worse than a fmj. Im thinking the "regular" bullet in this vid is a full metal jacket
@JHIS300 i dont care for spelling and if you would like to go bak and review when he holds the (regular) bullet horozontal u will see a small lead tip indicating it is a .223 NATO round not a FMJ also this is out of my head a 22lr hollow point travels at 440mps and a 22lr soft lead travels at 520fps so there is a difrence in speed but a NATO round takes .80 of a second to expands after impact a hollow point exspands in 0.30 of a second also there shaping has alot to do with the damage
@Metallica09Tapout The .223 is definitely viable for urban sniping or ranges out to about 600 meters. It's my understanding that the common sniper round is the 7.62x51 (.308) just because it has a little bit more down-range energy and can reach out to farther distances. I don't know a whole lot about the newer LONG range rounds like the .338 Lapua and the Cheytac.
@Mrkillerpat The 5.45x39 and 5.56x45 rounds are very similar ballistically. I wont dispute that. As far as the 5.45 leaving a bigger hole than the .223 or 5.56, well I dont think that's necessarily true. The diameters are close to being the same, and it seems that terminal performance and entrance/exit wounds would be pretty similar.
@IVSpod no it doesnt...that may be how it was designed but ive seen game animals still running after two well placed standard bullets and never one with the hollow points. also our marines are starting to request hollow points due to insurgents maintaining a dangerous state after as many as a dozen shots from the standard isue rounds, some of my buddys are even going so far as to spend their down time to drill their own hollow points into the amo they are issued
@cgspeeddemon1 Who told you the Marine Corps requested hollow points? No one knowledgeable. Hollow points in light weapons were outlawed by the hague convention of 1899, which is law for all NATO countries. That is why standard issue is standardized and NOT hollow point.
@kenfo0 read my comment again, i didnt say the marine corps requested hollow points. i said the marines themselves (as indivituals) are requesting them......i am aware of the hague convention and i am aware that those drilling their own hollowpoints are looking at court marshell if they get caught, but they must be caught first right?
@cgspeeddemon1 yes, you were aware of the hague conv. about 1 minute after I said it and you googled to find out WTF I was talking about. "court martial". "must be caught first"....is that how you think you win hearts/minds and live a moral life? I'm sure you do, I don't. Hollow pts have NO BEARING whatsoever on success in AF. Admit you said something stupid and just move on. Feigned knowledge is worthless.
@kenfo0 i will admit you are half right.....i had to YAHOO the hague conv to reread it cause i thought the hollow points were outlawed in the geneva conv but thats just symantics, all that matters is they are illegal. and its people like you that falsly belive a solid bullet can do just as much harm as a hollow point that make it more dangerous for our millitary. if hollowpoints arent beter than solid then why do they make them? no, never mind forget i asked as i just dont care what you think

The military went to a smaller .223 (or 5.56x45mm NATO) round around just after WWII because it actually does less damage. it goes right through it's target, clean. It will put someone out of commission but not kill them. The reasoning behind this: on average it takes two additional soldiers to care for a wounded person. If they're comrade is dead, they will keep on fighting. Better to wound one and take out three... Make sense?

I just like the way you guys made your own hollow point.
And yes you can purchase them all day long. One common vendor of HP .223 Rem is Wolf Ammo from RU. I shoot them all day long because they are cheap. I do however prefer to shoot M183 ball.
eandmga 1 year ago
@ufailhard1 That is another huge difference between Canada and the USA. The only hollow point rounds you can get here (to the best of my knowledge) are .22. I was in the Canadian Army and that ID up here gets you S.F.A.

@ufailhard1 Militaries are not allowed to use the hollow point round.
cf80to01 1 year ago
@cf80to01
Confirmed. All countries that are signature members of the Geneva Convention, have agreed not to use HP ammo. They only use ball ammo as it is the most humane way of inflicting death on someone according to some studies.
eandmga 1 year ago
@ufailhard1 i will and def check otu Ranger Talon i know in 9mm the +p+ not many can handle that shit, its an improved Black talon for "law enforcement only" bullllshit. haha
METALLIMAN545 1 year ago
@ufailhard1 check out the video for wolf hollow points. they didnt even expand and went through 4 one gallion jugs of water. from how i was taught its all about shot placement. i guarentee a shot on the leg wont do as much damage as one taken center mass.
METALLIMAN545 1 year ago
@ufailhard1 thats what i was talking about, unless you are going to pay an arm and a leg not all HP are the same. ill still take a fmj or Vmax (Hornandy tap FTW)
METALLIMAN545 1 year ago
@ufailhard1
a GOOD HIGH QUALITY hollow point retard. theres soooo many different types of hollow point rounds you can get cheapo walmart WWB hpthat would be inconsistent. or some real good ones like ranger talon, hydroshock, barnes, hornandy, gold dot, and your paying about 1.30 per round. would you trust a WOLF hollow point over any of those if you had a choice in ammunition?
METALLIMAN545 1 year ago
hp are not the end all see all. For hunting purposes if you cant pierce deep enough the hp wont do you any good except just leave another wounded animal whereas if you shot it with a solid it will go deeper for the kill

@cheekytheangel dude if u get hit by a hollow point or a normal point the hollow point will destroy u the regular doesnt
BFHGuy 1 year ago
@BFHGuy Are you fucking stupid? The .223 round was designed to inflict a more severe wound channel without needing a "hollow point". The round tumbles through flesh and rips you apart, yeah a .223 round wont destroy you. You're an idiot, I'm tired of COD commandos on videos about real guns.
IVSpod 1 year ago 22
@IVSpod i mean destroy like ur inside -.-
BFHGuy 1 year ago
@IVSpod The Army replaced its green tip ammo with the hollow point because the standard FMJ wasn't knocking anyone down in Iraq. When we 1st went in only soldiers with th M-4 carbine were given JHP to make up for the reduced muzzel velocity. But it was noticed that the M-4 guys were the only ones knocking people down. I used to hate the M-16 thinking it was the small caliber's fault I couldn't knock down the bad guys. It was the ammo!!!
4Tcal 1 year ago
@4Tcal I hope they didnt replace it with an expanding jacketed hollow point because that would technically be in violation of certain aspects of the geneva convention. Im guessing that you're just making shit up. If you're not then I'm seriously disappointed in the United States military.
IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod It is made by FNH the same people that make the green tip eco ammo and the machine guns M249 SAW and the M240B for the U.S.Military in South Carolina. I asked a Sgt about that and the rule is only soldiers of recognized nation are covered. Insurgents are not protected by the conventions of war. So get the fuck over yourself. Because if all I have is a 203 grenade left to take out an attacker I am blowing that mutherfucker up.

IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod Ah yes, the touted, " Tumbling" action of the .223, which exists in primarily every other bullet...oh...ever made?
iammishahearmeroar 1 year ago
Yeah but it's fairly established that the .223 round is particularly unstable in material because of it's light weight and high velocity. Where the wound channel from a .30-06 is usually straight through with a bulge in the middle (the place where it tumbled) it usually only tumbles once within a single wound channel. The .223 creates a more eradic wound channel because it's more easily effected by changes in tissue density than the larger (and heavier) .30 caliber rounds. see now?
IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod Hey smart ass. Why do you think all the miltary forces in the world arn't allowed to use hollow point rounds. Cause their way more deadly. The FMJ will tumble in you but chances are it will also pop out of you. Where a JHP will not come out and you will die faster
lmeirelesxo 1 year ago
@lmeirelesxo This has nothing to do with the argument I made. I pointed out that I would hope the army isn't using expanding hollowpoints in violation of the geneva convention. I was told to get over myself. Obviously some people do not appreciate my suggestion that the US military could be doing something at least possibly immoral. Please note that I fully and completely support the service of United States soldiers. What I dont like is the idea that we would compromise our values to win.
IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod The Us military wouldn't use hollow point rounds, normal bullets have increased penetration, hollow point rounds are less aerodynamic, resulting in less range, they also will not penetrate body armor. So no, we do not use hollow point rounds in warfare. I think they are actually used in police weapons to avoid a bullet going through someones house and killing an innocent person, but I'm not entirely sure.
ExplosiveChickens 1 year ago
@ExplosiveChickens I think you're right on the police weapons thing. Yeah, it always make me laugh when I hear rappers talking about hollow points that go through vests, I was under the impression that they could be stopped way easier than a FMJ.
IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod Of course! Hollow points wont go through a vest, it will either shatter or get crushed once it impacts. With police, since they are at close ranges, using hollowpoint rounds is more effective and will take down an unarmored enemy quickly. Personally, I wanna see a police officer use a varmint grenade, but that's just my preference ;D
ExplosiveChickens 1 year ago
@ExplosiveChickens
I heard they are also used for situations where the criminal must be killed as quickly as possible before anyone else, dies, eg, if a nutcase starts shooting in a mall.
theREALshafan 1 year ago
@ExplosiveChickens The military doesn't use hollow points because there is a convention (not sure if its the geneva or another but I know its out there) that says the "expanding" bullets are illegal in war.
armypenguin 1 year ago
@armypenguin I know, I am aware of the Geneva convention banning expanding bullets, just another reason why the military won't use them
ExplosiveChickens 1 year ago
@ExplosiveChickens actually its the only reason "expanding" bullets would be FUCKN amazing in afghanistan right now 99% of combatants are not wearing armor which is great if we could use "expanding" rounds but we can't. The ball ammo we use right now is ok under 500 yards but out past that its not very lethal. With "expanding" rounds that could be extend out farther.
armypenguin 1 year ago
@armypenguin a budy of mine snuck 2 combat loads of fragmentary 5.56mm rounds to the stan almost got away with it to 6 months in to the deployment he headed home for leave and while he was gone some asshole was diging through his stuff and noteced the ammo and rated him out though they didnt do anything to bad to him probably because he is Bat shit crazy and every time he gets blown up (3 times so far) he winds up crazier good guy to have on your team though.

@wild50gunner good for him If/When I go in i'm going to go ROTC and try my best to get myself an M14.
armypenguin 1 year ago
@ExplosiveChickens actualy it was the Hage convention that baned "The Contracting Parties agree to abstain from the use of bullets which expand or flatten easily in the human body, such as bullets with a hard envelope which does not entirely cover the core, or is pierced with incisions." the the Geniva convention mosty focust on the treatment of POWs
wild50gunner 1 year ago
@IVSpod On cod, there's no distinction between hollow point and other kinds of bullets, so I don't know where you got that idea from. Hollow points always do more damage than non hollow, that's not to say that a .223 won't do damage as well, just not as much as a hollow point.
wafflecushioned 1 year ago
@wafflecushioned that wasn't the point I was arguing at all. please re-read.
IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod I knew what you were saying, I was just pointing out that on cod there is no real focus on the difference between hollow point and non hollow.

@IVSpod just saying I have a lot of fist hand experiance with the results of millitary 5.56mm rounds and once again THEY DO NOT TUMBLE and no that is not my opinion it is a well documented fact
wild50gunner 1 year ago
@IVSpod
Dude the military uses a different barrel then what civilians do, and its that barrel that puts the certain amount of spin on the bullet that make it tumble.
RaidingFeral 1 year ago
@RaidingFeral The differences in the twist rates are for stabilizing bullets of different weights. I can go buy a rifle with the exact same twist rate as the military rifles or I could buy one with a different twist rate. It has nothing to do with the way the bullet reacts in tissue, the matching of a bullet weight to the appropriate twist rate will help stabilize it's flight through the air (making it more accurate). I understand why you might have been confused though.
IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod actully they both do the same but a hollow exspands in half the time the "regular" ammo he stated are the rounds used in war as hollows are illegal by the gerniver convension but the hollow pionts are useless on anything in rifles but 22 callibur the wreck the range of the gun
blueeyesseto 1 year ago
@blueeyesseto First learn to spell. then go find any box of hollow point bullets and look at the ballistics on that bullet. aint gonna be much worse than a fmj. Im thinking the "regular" bullet in this vid is a full metal jacket
JHIS300 1 year ago
@JHIS300 Lol shaad up mcivor
Metallica09Tapout 1 year ago
@JHIS300 i dont care for spelling and if you would like to go bak and review when he holds the (regular) bullet horozontal u will see a small lead tip indicating it is a .223 NATO round not a FMJ also this is out of my head a 22lr hollow point travels at 440mps and a 22lr soft lead travels at 520fps so there is a difrence in speed but a NATO round takes .80 of a second to expands after impact a hollow point exspands in 0.30 of a second also there shaping has alot to do with the damage
blueeyesseto 1 year ago
@IVSpod ya im pretty sure snipers use 223's, but im not too sure lol
Metallica09Tapout 1 year ago
@Metallica09Tapout The .223 is definitely viable for urban sniping or ranges out to about 600 meters. It's my understanding that the common sniper round is the 7.62x51 (.308) just because it has a little bit more down-range energy and can reach out to farther distances. I don't know a whole lot about the newer LONG range rounds like the .338 Lapua and the Cheytac.
IVSpod 1 year ago
@Metallica09Tapout "snipers" dont shoot one round. .308 is common, .50 is common. depends on what they need to do
JHIS300 1 year ago
@JHIS300 u will find snipers also use .223 .243 .303 and 400 winchester rounds depending on what they have to do
blueeyesseto 1 year ago
@IVSpod The russian AK-74 can do the same thing, and also leave a huge whole in you. It is a 5.45x39 and i think it is a better round.
Mrkillerpat 1 year ago
@Mrkillerpat The 5.45x39 and 5.56x45 rounds are very similar ballistically. I wont dispute that. As far as the 5.45 leaving a bigger hole than the .223 or 5.56, well I dont think that's necessarily true. The diameters are close to being the same, and it seems that terminal performance and entrance/exit wounds would be pretty similar.
IVSpod 1 year ago
@IVSpod no it doesnt...that may be how it was designed but ive seen game animals still running after two well placed standard bullets and never one with the hollow points. also our marines are starting to request hollow points due to insurgents maintaining a dangerous state after as many as a dozen shots from the standard isue rounds, some of my buddys are even going so far as to spend their down time to drill their own hollow points into the amo they are issued
cgspeeddemon1 1 year ago
@cgspeeddemon1 Who told you the Marine Corps requested hollow points? No one knowledgeable. Hollow points in light weapons were outlawed by the hague convention of 1899, which is law for all NATO countries. That is why standard issue is standardized and NOT hollow point.
kenfo0 1 year ago
@kenfo0 read my comment again, i didnt say the marine corps requested hollow points. i said the marines themselves (as indivituals) are requesting them......i am aware of the hague convention and i am aware that those drilling their own hollowpoints are looking at court marshell if they get caught, but they must be caught first right?
cgspeeddemon1 1 year ago
@cgspeeddemon1 yes, you were aware of the hague conv. about 1 minute after I said it and you googled to find out WTF I was talking about. "court martial". "must be caught first"....is that how you think you win hearts/minds and live a moral life? I'm sure you do, I don't. Hollow pts have NO BEARING whatsoever on success in AF. Admit you said something stupid and just move on. Feigned knowledge is worthless.
kenfo0 1 year ago
@kenfo0 i will admit you are half right.....i had to YAHOO the hague conv to reread it cause i thought the hollow points were outlawed in the geneva conv but thats just symantics, all that matters is they are illegal. and its people like you that falsly belive a solid bullet can do just as much harm as a hollow point that make it more dangerous for our millitary. if hollowpoints arent beter than solid then why do they make them? no, never mind forget i asked as i just dont care what you think
