leopards, hyenas, lions, and crocodiles do not count as "weak" predators, for the strongest. The weak ones would be animals like, baboons, cheetahs, jackals, wild dogs, etc. None of them could kill a human in seconds. And smallest couldn't harm us (Aardwolves, lizards, hawks)!

It has nothing to do with natural selection / evolution. Cheetahs are near extinction because of human ignorance and greed. Their lack of genetic diversity has doomed the species to inevitable extinction.

The BBC has done documentaries showing some Cheetah's which stay with their siblings, including a family of FOUR brothers sticking together to form an extremely successful hunting pack. Its large heart pumps large amounts of blood into the body, and its spine curves with each stride. Hard, ridged footpads and nonretractable claws minimize resistance on the ground. Cheetahs can weigh up to around 140-150lbs, not exactly "tiny". Regardless, cheetahs are fast for a number of reasons. They have extremely powerful muscles, heart, lungs, amongst other physiological attributes.
Lions are more powerfull because they're 3 to 4 times larger on average (300- 550lbs vs. 80- 140lbs).
It's a damn shame humans are so selfish. We (as humans) have killed of something like 90% of the Cheetah population. Not only are we killing them with guns but killing by taking away their habitat.
Cheetahs are the most successful hunters of the big cats so it's not like it's because they're weak or anything. Inbreeding has occurred but not all Cheetahs are inbreed.

Cheetahs are already doomed for extinction even without the interference of man.
All Cheetahs are inbred, they have very very low diversity in their gene pool hence have trouble reproducing and creating better offspring.
Inbreeding has fucked up their gene pool. Admire them now but there is nothing we can do.

There used to be several species of cheetahs around but during the last ice age most have died out.
During the last ice age only a few families of cheetahs survived causing them to inbreed among each other to survive, thus fucking up their gene pool, in recent studies, cheetahs have the lowest sperm count of any feline so much so that most of their sperm are dead or unusable. Their lack of genetic diversity has doomed the species to inevitable extinction.

@27twentyseven27 Not true. There were 100,000 cheetahs in 1900. They once thrived as a species. Akbar the great had 1,000 cheetahs to himself! There are reasons other then inbreeding as to why they are declining.

As man grows, the rest of the earths creatures will parish..its very sad but very true. If we do not maintain our population and change our ways we will never see beautiful creatures like this again, nor will our grandchildren, even great grand children.

i think about this a lot... eventually, if nothing is done, we will have cows, chickens, humans, pigeons and bugs. there are so many remarkable creatures out there, all distant evolutionary cousins of ours. it is a shame that humanity is so... misinformed and deluded. this tiny spec of dust called the earth was not solely created for our conquering and consumption.

It is so sad that humans wipe out everything they come in contact with. What an incredible cat. I spent 30 minutes with one up close. The best 30 minutes ever.

Not 120 mph! And they take longer than 3-4 secs. to hit 65 mph, for a few seconds.

@muimrm Cheetah's don't abandon their children. They teach them how to survive then go their seperate ways. The BBC has done documentaries showing some Cheetah's which stay with their siblings, including a family of FOUR brothers sticking together to form an extremely successful hunting pack. This might be a result of the drop in the Cheetah population caused by humans but it shows when necessary, they will stay as a family unit if it means survival.

@moralesivan88 Ligers are not healthy animals. Lions and tigers would never meet in the wild much less mate or fight. Read about ligers a little more. They end up in alot of pain,(due to joint problems from conflicting genes and no growth inhibition) and confused/depressed from conflicting sets of instincts from both parents. I thought they were neat at first, now I think it's terrible.

actually, thats not true, cheetahs run fast because of ,yes, a slender body, flattened ribcage, and long thin legs that minimize resistance. Its large heart pumps large amounts of blood into the body, and its spine curves with each stride. Hard, ridged footpads and nonretractable claws minimize resistance on the ground. Thats how a cheetah is different from a lion. I hope I didnt bore you though mr pnil

Cheetahs can weigh up to around 140-150lbs, not exactly "tiny". Regardless, cheetahs are fast for a number of reasons. They have extremely powerful muscles, heart, lungs, amongst other physiological attributes.

Lions are more powerfull because they're 3 to 4 times larger on average (300- 550lbs vs. 80- 140lbs).
It's a damn shame humans are so selfish. We (as humans) have killed of something like 90% of the Cheetah population. Not only are we killing them with guns but killing by taking away their habitat.
Cheetahs are the most successful hunters of the big cats so it's not like it's because they're weak or anything. Inbreeding has occurred but not all Cheetahs are inbreed.
