She returned back to me the Joy of Music(& even the Joy of Life)since I discover Her 2 yrs ago.I ve seen all great sopranos from our times(XXI century, not from past one). There're some of them very good:but no single one can reach the supreme level of technique, power, vibration, proyection, coloratura, sensibility, etc of Diana's Miraculous Art.
She's the God's Voice over the Earth, singing to an amazed world.
I love this opera. i'm like 14 and my mum thinks its a miracle i have a taste for classical operatic music :P she's taking me to see it live next year in february. its costing like £200 per ticket but we both love it, so its so worht it :D
Claycomb only sings in second class opera theatre? Seems to me she sang the title role in "Linda di Chamounix"...her debut at La Scala. I don't think La Scala is second class opera theatre!
@brolobear I love laura claycomb! Who said anything about second class opera? Those people are idiots! My most formidable opera experience was when I was a young exchange student in Wuerzburg, Germany. I watched La boheme, Tosca, Faust, and much more opera there with the most passionate artists ever and I still have teard when I think about it. Today I am a benefactor at the Met in NYC and quite frankly I do miss my small Mainfranken Theater
with all respect, diana damrau has done, what very little coloraturas have done by the age of 38. she sang in all the warlds first class opera stages (la scala, the met, covent garden ect') with the hardest, and most demanded roles on paper. she manages pretty well, to get to all the big events like the "three orchestra concert" in munich, and do it better then any other coloratura present.
Name me anyone these days besides Damrau and Claycomb who can do fiorature like this with varied dynamics (ie a repeated run mf then ppp)...it is AMAZING.
Please.. do not compare Damrau to Claycomb.. Damrau is one of the best coloratura soprano in the last 30 years.. Claycomb is one of thousand of singer working in second class opera theater..
PanosJ3, I wasn't comparing the two singers...I was saying that both are great and that nobody can beat them! I am entitled to my opinion! Each has their strengths. Just wanted you to know that I wasn't comparing the 2. They're both coloraturas, but do different rep.
Well. I don't like this. She sounds pretty audibly tired by the end. Which is not good, since Martern aller arten comes about 9 minutes after this. Also, the coloratura is behind the tempo. Sloppy. I like her queen of the night, but she just isn't Konstanze...
Nine minutes? I think not. Twenty minutes of music, and a scene change/interval, which is heaps of time.
I think the reason her Konstanze here is not so good is because she has sung too many Queen of Nights. Damrau herself has stated that she finds this aria to be the hardest of the three. It could be better but it's not bad. And she's definitely not a Blondchen.
maybe she had a bad sleep the night before the performance. you can t never know.. Live performance it is always hard to do.. Ladies has also a period where singing is very difficult.. come on!
I love Dianas voice. And I'm very happy to see so much videos of her, because in my opinion she is the singer of our days who is able to walk successfully in the footsteps of Erika Köth.
Cinderella, it's from Die Entfuhrung Aus Dem Serail - The abduction from the Seraglio, a Mozart DeutschOper. This is Konstanze, the "heroine" who then sings the very famous "Martern Aller Artern" , a video of which you can find on here as well, sung by Damrau. It's amazing, as always. Thanks for posting this!
she's the german meryl streep in singing and opera!!!
