The part where Dolly's singing by herself (without an audience) is at the Ryman Auditorium (original home of the Grand Ol' Opry), while the rest of the special was filmed in the new Opry. At the time this was filmed (1978), the Ryman had remained mostly vacant, since the Opry had moved to the new building in 1974. The Ryman would remain shuttered until the early '90s, when Emmylou Harris recorded her live AT THE RYMAN album there, and then it was restored and reopened as a concert hall.
The Ryman sure doesnt look like that now, they have done a full restoration and I have seen the likes of Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne and George Carlin perform there. I was at the Opry House the night they taped this special, Oh the memories! Thanks for posting!
Waht humility from both of these two great legends. God we are bless to have people like these wto in the world. Can you imagine if they were President and Vice President, there probably would be no war and each m,orning would begin with a song, joke and much laughter. God bless them both. thx .
Wow..was this really a Carol CBS special? Nowdays, You would have to find a religious cable station to hear music like this. What a treat and from two great entertainers.
It's too bad they don't rerun old programs like this on CMT, or some other cable channel. I'm sure many people (both those of us old enough to have watched when it originally aired and those who are younger) would enjoy.
What a great clip! It's rare to see Carol sing gospel and who better to sing it with than Dolly. Thank God the Ryman was restored after this taping and is now consistently voted on of the top theaters in the U.S. and is a Tennessee treasure. Dolly is also a TN treasure! Thanks for posting.
Awesome!

is this a rehersal or something because there isn't anyone in the audience.

at the beginning I mean cause when the camera goes behind Dolly there doesn't appear to be anyone in the audience.

The part with just Dolly was recorded seperately. The parts with Carol were performed live.

the first song sounds like Little Sparrow

The song is "Wayfaring Stranger", which Emmylou Harris sang masterfully. Look on the Tube for this.

Joan Baez also did a nice version of "Wayfaring Stranger" in the 1960s.
