I'm pretty sure it's legal to ski any face in Europe. You are responsible for your own actions in Europe. Unlike America; if you die, it's your fault and no one else's. The only illegal action would be if you set off an avalanche that endangers, buries, or injures someone else.
@shaujohn This is correct, plus, in Switzerland's case, there are wildlife winter areas where it's illegal to ski, board or walk outside designated trails, but this is only within the tree covered areas, above those there is no restriction unless common sense, natural parks, military areas, etc
