That's a very clever instrument, and looks very nice. I must admit I didn't think much of the sound though. Was it slightly out of tune? Odd tuning, but it did sound a bit out...
Sorry, but limsj6 is right. This is based on the guqin and the mountain dulcimer, but both of those instruments are actually zithers and not dulcimers.
Either way, it's an incredibly clever instrument. I really like the folding feature.
A luthier genius!!...a Guitar Luthier...a Craftsman Mechanical Engineer?... integrating Old World Concepts and Modern Electronics with an eye of ERGONOMIC playing for this UNIQUE Instrument. CAN YOU BUILD ONE WITH SIX STRINGS as in a FOLDABLE Classical Guitar ? .... hehehe....
I believe I am the only other person on Youtube who has constructed the Electric Guqin. Please look at my videos to see the instrument, I used a guitar with 6 strings and no frets.
Thanks, Dan! I always try to push the envelope as far as it can go. It seems like that's what the young players were looking for in the last issue of DPN.
The dulcimer is so dear to me and such a large part of my life that I like to spend my waking hours up to my armpits in something to do with it.
Plus it is always a blast to work on something where you learn a little, too.
Congratulations! Very nice indeed!

I am interested in this instrument how much does it cost? Does it plays like a guqin?

could've made the nut a little thicker so it would jam right in the slot

Guqin is 3000 years old, not a thousand to 2.

yeah cool, but I wouldn't buy a dulcimer just because it's foldable. :P lol

looks great and the fact that is foldable is great, i always have problems travelling with instruments...!!

Really cool. There are so many ideosyncracies to this instrument. I would have no idea how to play it, but it certainly is unique!

Superb work !!

that's not a dulcimer. A dulcimer is a yang qin and is hit with bamboo mallets.
limsj6 2 years ago
Incorrect that is a dulicmer ..... what your describing is the chinese HAMMERED dulcimer
Leprecaun123 2 years ago
You don't have to play it with these bamboo sticks you can also play chords etc.
GermanDulcimer 2 years ago
Wrong. This IS a dulcimer. The yang qin is a HAMMERED dulcimer.

RomeroRociero 2 years ago
I can say. you know nothing about guqin and Chinese music. your fingering is totally wrong.
u598478 2 years ago
How can his fingering be 'wrong' when it is not a qin but a custom instrument?
