Don't all those alternators draw a lot of horse power from the motor? Do you notice the gas mileage go down or up before adding those? I mean for the size of the truck, it is probably not that good anyway, Right?
@brian85578 It will affect the signal in a way that could introduce distortion. If the amp gains were set with the EQ flat with inadequate headroom left over it can limit how much the EQ can be adjusted to boost frequencies.
the 18 is to play with for a lil while. If you noticed in the start of part 3 where i have 6 18s chilling on my floor, 4 of which I need to recone, and 2 are a friends that I built for him. Im walling the tahoe in spring. :D
@meade916 meade its twostorkeking from smd! i was just wondering, i heard from somewhere there is a newer version of a dd1 coming out? unless i was dreamin lol. does this mean the dd1 will be cheaper?
so i have the avh-3200dvd hu. do you think going into the settings and turning the sub level up will cause more clipping or what does htat actually do ?
Clipping would be dependent of your volume level, and what volume the radio clips at, the settings on the amp, and the quality of your music. If your music is clipped, everything else will also be clipping.
Most headunits with a separate subwoofer control often times dont make full rca preout voltage until the sub level is turned completely up. So if your sub volume goes to 10, and you have 4 volt preouts, its safe to assume at sub vol 5 your only getting 2volt preout
Also something else i found out with my DD-1. if you are using an ipod connection or something you should put that CD onto your ipod and test the HU for distortion for the ipod. because I found out with my HU (Dual XDMA6415) I could go up to 37 with a CD and 43 with a Ipod on bluetooth. Even though my CD was lower, yours might be higher than the ipod (even though yours is at max anyways)
Using an Ipod or any mp3 type player or cell phone thru bluetooth has bad quality sound. Most if not all bluetooth units play fm radio quality sound, which is 96kbps even if the track on your mp3 player is say 296kbps.
Also when you play a mp3 player thru bluetooth or the 3.5mm headphone jack into an auxirally input on your radio you can control the volume on the mp3 player/cellphone and if you have it too loud it can clip the mp3 players output, making everything else clip.
Now if your using the ipod cable or usb cab;e to come out of your mp3/ipod/cell phone and into your headunit, you can not control the volume of the source and is considered a low level input (unlike using bluetooth or 3.5mm headphone input that is high level input). The low level input is a very low voltage signal and will not clip, unlike using other methods mentioned above.
I use a ipod to usb input for my ipod, and usb for my phone and flash drives. No clipping :D
@audiofanaticz Ha well my USB/ipod cable clipped before anything else, followed by CD's, 3.5mm, then bluetooth was able to go the highest without clipping. Who knows its a rather inexpensive HU. I got it off of soniceletronix for 94$. I can't complain. Bluetooth+ 3 rca outputs+usb+3.5mm +Bass&Treble EQs+ipod capability. Weirdly enough also, the bluetooth has better quality sound than the ipod conn, or the 3.5mm. Thats why I use that, and because its pretty nifty not having to connect cords ;D
@heretic30176 im pretty sure they have compensated on this if you read the manual or read around on this dd-1 it works for me or do you set your gains with an o-sope and the subs hooked up also ?
I had a loaner from a friend if you watch my other videos, it was a DC Power 270SP, but he needed it back a long time ago already, so I had to resort to stock alt. I only had enough for 2 alts and the bracket when I bought my alts.
@Tatsamaru true that, but even 14v is in % a lot... unless radio outputs over whole supply range same level of signal, that is not clipped, then that voltage won't matter... but amps don't work like that, battery voltage will sag, internal voltage of amp under load will sag... clip will come... if nothing else I would still have load connected, that would really be the case as is almost as normal is
@Tatsamaru Yes he does have a lot of alt, but you can see in his other videos where he his wired to the same impedance as the smd is and he drops well into the 11s. 2 saz 4500s @.35ohm each draws a ton of amperage like 1000amps or more.
they are bolted together on the sides using "back strap". but the eq and radio still loved to slap against each other and got very annoying so some electrical tape wrapped around them with a couple pieces of cardboard between the 2 stopped the annoying sound.

Set gains without amps/electrical under load then as soon as you put it under load and your clip point drops some you have fried speakers.
Great thinking on this product.. great thinking.

If you set your gains to be clip free at 15.3v won't it be clipping when you drop into the 11s?
