Later this year there is an Ultimate tournament in Alaska where freestyle moves (nail delays, airbrushes, macs, trick catches, etc...) are allowed and encouraged.
As a freestyler I think this is great... but I know true Ultimate players don't like it. However, I think if more Ultimate players knew how to nail delay well enough to run down the field with the disc spinning on their finger... they would!
Once, (at practice) I delayed a "pull" and took off running down the sideline with the disc. Everyone was yelling "you cant do that" but not doing anything about it... finally at about the 20 yard line one defender tried to stop me and I airbrushed the disc around him, chest rolled to an air brush, and caught the disc for a score.
People were pissed...
But hey, I say up your skill set... what's the worst that could happen? you could have more fun... be an all around better disc player...
What a cool concept for alternate rules ultimate. Run and delay only with a spinning disc. Stop running when disk stops spinning. No self throws. Disk could be knocked or grabbed from finger for a turnover. No score by running into the end zone. Two points for a nail delay end zone catch that lasts 4 seconds, maybe 3 points for a hammer throw 4 second nail delay. Think of more. This would be a more varied-skill game with new strategies that would probably be more fun to watch.
The disc hasn't actually been caught so its not technically traveling. It is however still illegal for sure. Though the guy flailing to get it is quite hilarious. Clearly should have called a violation.

The narrator does say it's not allowed, to move with the disc like that.
