Glad to see that Don is still piping away. I have not seen him for years. Really not since he retired. No doubt our paths will cross again. I still think he has more hot air than I do. haha
The Tune takes its name from the “Gare Loch” which is the Loch in Argyll and Bute on which the Royal Navy has its submarine Base. However its name is usually made by joining both of the words together. It is two lochs away from the “Holy Loch” which is an area where some of the readers here may well be familiar with, and where American Polaris submarines were based during the Cold War era.
Hi there...I did some research on the name off Bob Dunsires site and this is what I found...

Tune was not non-descript. He is not making it up. Its called Gairloch, written by Archibald MacNeill. He played it pretty well. His reed is a bit weak and prone to skirling and he is overblowing the high notes but I hope I can play that well if I reach that age
My instructor was playing right up until the day he sadly passed away, aged 88. This gentleman is ok, but certainly not "champion", or even a former one, as the vid title suggests. I don't hear top shelf pedigree from days gone by here, just some reasonable ability. The pipes are not well set/tuned, and the tunes are, frankly, non-descript. Is he making them up..? But at least he's having a go. Good on him. I hope I'm still able and willing at his age.
@chmdiva ha ha ha....yes Scotch will do that. Good on him for getting up for a tune. Problem with booze and pipes is that ambition and ability don't quite come together. Mind you, I've heard a lot worse from the dead sober! ;-) That 'tune' however is not a keeper, I'm sorry.

I used to play that tune in the 1970's haven't heard it since ('till now). Excellent! I hope I'm still piping when I'm your age.

He doesn't look older than maybe 65. I've heard of him before: he's a guid piper, that's for sure.
