Just got back GT2 for the first time In years, I was lucky enough to find the version where you can make Mark Martin's Vavoline Ford out of the Tarurs SHO
I will try to explain why GT2 had over 500 cars and GT3 only had 100. You see, the PS1 used low-quality models on top of high quality textures. Using this method, PD was able to just replicate most cars very easily because of the simplicity of the PS1. When it came to the PS2, higher quality models PLUS higher quality textures were used. So therefore, it took a much longer time to model each car and create textures. So basically, the PS1 was easier to work with. Hopefully GT5 was worth the wait!
@Bzking23 Try to think. GT2 was released on 1999, and GT3 on 2001. In two years it was difficult to get 500 cars into an all-new Platform like the PS2 back in those days. That also explains why Polyphony's still delaying with GT5 for the PS3.
@Bzking23 due to polyphony digital finding out the ps2's graphics capebilities were much higher, they switched the engine of the game from gran turismo 2000 to the engine u c today in GT3-Aspec. If they did not change the engine, the game would of had more cars, but they couldnt spend time on cars when they were tweaking the graphics. look up gran turismo 2000 on youtube and c what im talking about. Never the less, Gt3 or Gt2 are my fav games in the series.
@Knudthebrute no you're wrong GT3 was not a disappoint and if you don't believe me metacritic and gamerankings both outranked GT4. It was to test the capabilities of the gpu. GT3 has an easy way of earning money and you can earn it 3X faster than in 4
@Bzking23 i think it was because they didn't know what PS2 can do. It was just like how GT1 had like 166 cars then GT2 had (actually just over 600 cars). Then GT3 had 188 and GT4 had 721 (i think). The only reason why GT5 had to have 1000 was because it too to much time to creat as appose to GT1-GT2 2-3years, GT3-GT4 4 years (however it was expected to take this long)
@Bzking23 The cars were up scaled to ps2 (like they did on the standards on gt5) they had no time to up scale all the cars, so they selected ''the best ones''
@willies454 The song kind of sounds like Jimmy Page's "Embryo no. 1", a.k.a. the song that's played over the intro to the documentary "It Might Get Loud".

how come gt2 has over 500 cars and gt3 has about 100?
Bzking23 2 years ago 16
Because kazunori spent more time on car graphics than cars, so the graphics are improved, but the game have less cars
