@generalaud stop trying to be a good music critic there is barely any vibrato and when there is, it is probably during a crescendo to animate the suspensions or the appachaturras.
@digimontrainer12 The absence of vibrato is intentional. Didn't you know that? It's part of the choral tradition of English choral music (not to mention music of this period generally)--to sing with minimal vibrato. That practice is considered to allow clarity to this complex polyphonic music, which if sung with excessive vibrato, would lose said clarity entirely, and would be 'muddied' with a chaos of competing warbles ...
I sit in awe as I listen to all these...most favorite choral works of mine. It is difficult to deny the existence of a God when one hears these divinely inspired works. Thank you for this gift!
Thank you for posting this. A technical question; What techniques/software do you use to create the score and music moving together? I'm a choir teacher and think it would be a great way for my kids to learn their music.
We're doing this in Madrigals at our high school. Go Soprano 1s! I LOVE the dissonance in this piece. It's pretty much a chord-gasm throughout the whole thing :)
As much as I like that imagery, I would call it more of a suspension-fest. Nothing illustrates the principle of tension and release better than this piece.
Excellent performance of my favorite eight voice sacred composition. We performed this in high school under direction of Richard Smith in Europe during the summer of 1970. It brings back incredible memories of a once in a lifetime experience as we toured and performed for 45 days in some of the most beautiful places in Europe. Thanks Mr. Smith and to all my classmates from Audubon who were part of it.
@huunghianguyen really? audition for what? and i know right! i sang tenor 2 in our choir too, and we carried the tritones and the hardest parts next to alto 2s and bass 2s. D:
absolutly stunning!

Imho, the vibrato adds to the passion of the piece. Great rendition.

Too much vibrato! Vibrato ruins this piece. Without the vibrato the performance would be perfect!

@generalludd There's barely any vibrato, just vibrancy

@generalludd there is perfect balance in this song and there is really not that much vibrato

0:58-1:01 sounds like there is a woman's voice much higher up singing a descant.
This piece is beautiful.
