  • I remember seeing this when I was twelve years old..... Now am I watching this (as I'm writing this), again, knowing that I will be happy at the end, just as I was seven years ago.

  • why do i cry when i watch this scene LOL

  • @CanadianCannabis same here, every god damn time I watch this scene i tear up. This is the only movie that makes me cry everytime i watch it, and its one my favorite because of that.

  • filmswithnas slurps man goo

  • @SPaige4 You misspelled my name, dumbass.

  • Anyone who complains about the "special effects" (as if they were even trying to make things look realistic)...obviously entirely fucking missed the point of the film.

  • I love his final line "I wonder if it remembers me."

It's perfect that he spends the entire movie in search of the shark to find it and destroy it. then by the end he's down to his last straw and all he really wants is someone to care about him again. and all the while he wanted to kill the shark and now he hopes that the shark will be his friend.

  • @690hotpants I'm not quite sure he says it in hopes to befriend the shark, I always thought he says it because once he finally catches up to him his revenge plot wears off and he is simply amazed by the shark yet still distraught that the awesome creature he is staring at murdered his best friend. Maybe he asks "I wonder if he remembers me." because he wants the shark to feel guilty for what hes done.

  • @filmswithnads I always felt it was more that he's spent and lost so much because of the shark, this was his final chance to make one more great movie, and it meant so much to him, and he's lost so much because of it, and he wonders if it even remembers him, he's wondering if to the shark, he's nothing, but to him the shark is everything.

He's done and lost so much because of it, does it even remember him? Does it even realise?

  • @xplay3r That's the one. Well said.

  • the best scene, i love how they mix in the animation.

  • A melhor cena do filme...

  • The best scene <3

  • When the video cut off I immediately thought, I should watch this film now!

  • Why is it that, a year ago i saw this film, i didn't like it. But now i've seen it once again, it is now my favourite film! The Issue is, i cannot talk about with my friends as i know if i show it to them, they will not understand. All in all, the greatest film. Ever

  • 5 color blind people who have problems with shape recognition disliked this video

  • i dont get the 11 1/2 part, but it cracks me up

  • @masternate61 Bill Murray is about to say 11 1/2 is his favorite age.

  • @masternate61 It's Steve's favorite age

  • Very underrated film. I think I like it that wat though...

  • Comin out of 4chan's /x/, thread about best monster films/monsters, someone mentioned this for the shark, didn't even remember or pay this movie any mind, I'm gonna see it now :D.

Love Sigur Ros, first heard (dauoalagio) in the Dead Space game trailer, was awesome .

  • If I ever get a boat I'm guna name it the S.S. Belafonte bitches!!!

  • The video needed to be 5 seconds longer to cover my favourite quote :(

  • this scene makes me tear up, idk what it is it just is so good.

  • @lucasurastar Me too :(

  • Muy buena, grande Wes!!

  • No, We're Out of dynamite anyway. haha

  • great quality, filmswithnads

  • This movie my friends is a giant piece of crap.....right up there with the Royal Tenebaums. These movies are like all Sigur Ros songs.....he actually does not sing in any specific language!! Nice melodies but no real substance!

  • @schnurrbart45 so i guess you write for Rolling Stone or the Times? No, then shut the fuck up and leave your opinions to your self. Unless you are part of 4chan then watch videos you actually like and post positive comments on them.

  • @schnurrbart45 piece of crap? those movies are awesome lulz wes anderson makes da bezt shit

  • @schnurrbart45 What do you mean he does sing in any specific language, he's singing in icelandic?

  • 'i wonder if it remembers me' was my senior quote

  • My friends uncle did the animation for the shark and all the sea cartoons. he also directed Nightmare b4 xmas, James and the Giant Peach, & Coroline. at first i thought he was bullshiting me, and then i looked it up and its actually legit. i live in NJ

  • @RandreM your friend's uncle is tim burton?

  • @300daysandnights if you think tim burton directed a nightmare before christmas you are retarded, and if you try to be smart about it, double stupidity. Henry Selick retard.

  • @RandreM easy does it! calm down buddy. it says tim burton's the nightmare before christmas so i assumed he directed it. i haven't even seen the movie. simple mistake. no need to get bent out of shape.

  • This movie is so good. If you don't like it, I don't know what to tell you. And Dumbledore is in it. What the hell more do you want??

  • Brings tears to my eyes each time! This movie has every emotion anyone can go through. I just lose it when Bill Murray says "I wonder if it remembers me?"

  • I guess im just missing that chromosome, watched this movie 5 times and it STILL hasnt jelled! What am I missing?

  • 'If wonder if it remembers me..?' This piece of video will rock my boat forever.

  • This scene always made me tear up near the end. If anyone hasn't watched this movie, I'd recommend doing so.

  • The best scene in the history of cinema, added by the mind-blowingly atmospheric orgasm of Sigur Ros' Staralfur... a perfect genius scene, erethral, heavanly..

Reduces me to tears every time I watch it.

  • i like the movie its fun

  • what is the song called when they actually see the shark?

  • Staralfur by Sigur Ros

  • Thank you for uploading this!!! :) This is such a great movie and this is the BEST SCENE! well, this and Bill Murray's bad ass scene

  • stop being an asshole to everyone on youtube it doesnt make us think youre cool

  • Great scene, but dude! take the talk bubble off the video!!

  • @freymaroto Why? so I can have every person and their mother ask me what song that is? I don't think so.

  • take it out and put it in the description on the right... derrrrrrr reeetaaard

  • Derrrrr I've tried that already derrrr but like um derrrr people still ask what song it is derrrrr so shut the fuck up and go back to fucking your mother reeetaaard

  • derrr i'm cool i post videos on youtube derrr, get a life fag

  • WHOA internet drama starter wants me to get a life. I'll work on that for ya though.

  • i made a comment, you cried, get over it

  • can I fuck my mother too?

  • what song is that?

Me and my mom want to know

  • It's Staralfur by Sigur Ros. They are a from Iceland. If you like this check out the lead singer's new song Boy Lilikoi. It is going to be my theme song for Spring. So fantastic!

  • you fail to realize that I asked that just to piss off the uploader

  • Well it was a pretty lame attempt so better luck next time.

  • I know.

I still love you though <3

  • Sorry but it was all lust for me.

  • Like I care, you know I only say I love you cuz of your cock

  • you are a total non human

  • I love Sigur Ros and The Life Aquatic, but 10564 can eat a bag of dicks. Holy Mother of Fucking God, something about your video has brought out the biggest assholes on the planet.

  • I dont know what it is either, just a bunch of retarded kids home from school who have nothing better to do I guess.

  • @deedeeillinois They're not assholes, they're just taking full advantage of the random chaos that the internet makes possible. There's no reason or meaning in what they do or what they say; it's the real result of the meaninglessness that the internet creates in it's anonymity. It's almost as if they're technological nihilists.

  • I'm so sorry. Not everyone uses the internet to act like a total dick.

  • I know, dumbshit

  • @Cineman513 apparently a large variety of people disagree with you

  • Ned's theme, the first song in this video is actually incredible, i love hearing it.

  • makes me cry like a little girl. ha. i always have to walk out of the room when he says "i wonder if it remembers me".

  • the music at the beginningreminds me of a zx spectrum platform game, otherwise the best scene in the film!

  • @popevisitsauschwitz

this part always makes me feel better

  • i love that line

  • The music completed this scene in so many, many ways...

  • Angelica Houston freaks me out. Love this little tune :D

  • Sigurs Ros is such an amazing band - holy macaronie.

And this is one of my favourite films of all time, it never gets old. Love it.

  • I think that all the characters have important roles in the flick, besides the interns, but the movie is about zissou's legacy and those people around him all have a part in his success and failures.

  • actually, a repeated tradition of Wes Anderson's movies is that Life (big L) is much bigger than just a few main characters....I don't know if you've noticed, but have you seen how each character, no matter how peripheral to the story, is introduced, they're always centered perfectly in the shot? His films have to have a large cast because thats the best way to get his meaning across.

  • an interesting perspective, goddess of autumn.

  • the music when the shark comes up is really beautiful

  • latent homosexuality usually surfaces first as an attack against those whom the latent homosexual sees as a member of the same group of latent homosexuals.

  • Repetition is used by literate people to reinforce a point they are trying to make. In this example: your blatant and disingenuous homophobia is likely a sign that you are a latent homosexual.

Embrace it, good sir! Don't fight the dreams of those strong, masculine arms holding you against the powerful and hairy chest you so obviously crave! Kiss that bearded man! Let his deep voice comfort you!

    You obviously fucking need it.

  • Not particularly no, but you mom certainly does. At least she begs for mine to go back into her when I've had enough of her skanky ass.

  • That actually sounds pretty nice.

  • what song is this

  • stalafur or something by Sigur Ros

  • what are they holding up at 1 49

  • Looks like it may be the coordiantes of the location and the calculation of how deep they need to be

  • I can't help it either, it makes me cry everytime i see this. It's not necessarily a sad scene, but a very touching one that hits right "here" in the chest and makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck. It gives me goosebumps everytime I hear this song. Just amazing, well done Steve.

  • Greatest scene ever... CUT OFF abruptly!!!

  • this was my favorite part of the movie. im not afraid to admit that it makes me cry every time. i love the music and Bill Murray. hes a great actor.

  • I feel the same way. It is when Steve Zissou (Bill Murray) says "I wonder if he still remembers me" that my eyes begin to water. I mean, who hasn't had that moment where they felt lonly and insecure. This was such a touching moment for me. :(

  • @saraguy1921 I can`t explain it, but I cried the first time at that exact same time and I sill get misty every time I see it.

  • @PrarieCouchsurfer i think that for Steve, seeing the jaguar shark was like saying goodbye to Esteban.

  • @saraguy1921 I always think he's not talking about the shark, but about his old friend.

  • You're not the only one

  • Awesome movie!

Bill Murray is the best and Wes Anderson is a GREAT director.

  • I didn't cry but it is a very moving scene. :/

  • No, you cried.

  • Leopard Fish

  • I cry everytime

  • Fabulous scene... music... acting... the tragic-comical style is absolutely sublime in Bill's face.

  • "I wonder if it remembers me" :'(

  • I have fought back tears at this scene

  • that's one of my favorite scenes. that music is transcending, and steve's line "i wonder if it remembers me." always moves me to tears.

  • its amazing how movings can make us so emo not the emo as in real mut emo like moving

  • wh ydidnt you just say emotional??

  • this movie was not gay.

  • Revealing that Steve was a murderer goes against Anderson's running theme of morally decent Byronic hero main characters. Also, his killing Esteban, if this would have been his subtle reveal, would have logical explanation earlier in the film. That's how Wes does it. This is truth.

    -W

  • I believe you.

  • what song is that? when they actually see the shark that is

  • Staralfur by Sigur Ros

  • its weird that this movie reminds me of the song "yellow submarine" by the beatles. and they actually have a yellow submarine loll

  • wait, you're saying that steve killed esteban? why would he do that? weren't they best friends?

  • steve didn't kill esteban-- I think it's fairly obvious that by saying, "I wonder if it remembers me." he meant because he was there watching his friend die by the shark. Another suggestion is that although to Steve obviously his friend being eaten alive is a big deal, but to a shark it's just food. By him saying this line he is also suggesting that to the shark, it wasn't even worth remembering b/c it wasn't a big deal to it. Like cultural differences except with species'

  • That was the most obvious thing anyone has ever said...why else would he have said that?

  • I was explaining it to the other guy Cuda11 prick. look down.

  • No. What he is saying is, i wonder if he remembers me, because the rest of the world doesn't. Basically, The shark became the most important part in his life, while as Wafflestuffer2 pointed out to the shark it was just another meal. That's the reason everybody touches him, as if to say we remember you.

  • never really thought about it like that, but now that i think about it, it is the perfect explanation. steves career is going downhill, and the world is slowly forgetting him. but the one thing that he stays true to in this movie is his dedication to the shark

  • this is the best scene in the film. and my favorite scene but i wouldnt put this under "Greatest Scenes in Film"

  • I cry every single time too, and also at about 3:57. though sometimes I start when Sigur Ros does.

my biggest movie regret in life is not seeing this on the big screen.

  • This part always makes me cry too.

  • Staralfur by Sigur Ros. It's not on the soundtrack

  • Can someone please tell me what the last song is called? the one played when the shark swims over the sub

  • I've never understood why for the most part this movie isn't seen as that 'good' to most people. Personally, Rushmore and Life Aquatic are excellent. Must be the large use of Bill Murray in both of them or something. I like Royal Tenenbaums but not as much as Life Aquatic.

  • This part makes me cry.

    Great, great movie.

  • Is this simon the sorcerer music?

  • Sigur Ros

  • im not being sarcastic but can someone tell me what this scene means i havnt seen the movie and i dont get this part

  • The guy in the middle has been trying to find that shark who ate his best friend and destroy it

a lot happens on his way and decides not to blow it up.

its really hard to get without the movie

  • It's a really good movie. Not as funny as other bill murray films.

    Really good though.

    See it.

  • its about this guy steve zissou (bill murry) whos friend or something gets eatin by this giant fish. and everyone thinks hes crazy and no one believes him and he searches for it through the whole movie and then at the end they find the fish and everyone sees and its the perfect song to fit the part. pure genius

  • Fluorescent Snapper.

  • Aw! The clip was definately cut too soon... I'm sorry, but it gets me when he says "That was my favorite age."

    Extend the clip por favor!!

  • "It's not been my best decade..."

  • 2:19 onward is the best part of the whole movie. definitely my favorite wes anderson movie

  • 1 of my fav movies for real

  • This is my all time favorite movie..

  • Anyone know the name of the track just as the shark approches them? It's awesome. Such a good film

  • Staralfur by Sigur Ros.

  • i cry every time....Every time

  • 3:57 is when i start tearing up.

  • best movie ever made

  • I actually would have to agree, I can think of no better movie, seriously, this movie is just so beautiful

  • this is my background, jsut the look on steve zissous face i just, like, ugh.

  • "Wonder if it remembers me."

That's gotta be the greatest line ever delivered in any movie.

  • this scene is simply beautiful.. I can't beleive it.. it makes me cry, it's so perfect.. sigut ros! love it my favorite all-time scene!

  • I wonder if it remembers me.

    shit's unreal

  • for sure...

  • this is my favorite scene of any movie.

    except maybe the godfather

  • thank you for putting the best part up...this is the summary of our lives...searching what many doubt exists...but its sitting there...at the bottom of our own oceans... I love this movie...

  • Awesome movie. Wish they would post the beggining where esteban is eaten.

  • beautiful fucking movie

  • This is one of my favorite scenes. It made an impression on me.

  • Do you know what song is playing during the shark's appearance? Because I have the soundtrack and it's not there...

  • yes, it's Staralfur by Sigur Ros. It's not on the soundtrack for some odd reason.

  • Such a shame they didn't include it in the soundtrack. Though ALL of the music is obviously amazing, I have to say that I think it's one of the more moving songs.

  • What is this song and who is it by? Does anyone know?

    Thanks.

  • Staralfur by Sigor Ros. I should write an annotation for this,
