We do this with our chicks. They are small enough that we lay them on their backs in our hand and use a finger to rub down their belly/chest. It sometimes only takes a few seconds and they are out of it. Their legs relax and they look as if they are dead but really they are in a deep sleep like state. It is funny and harmless to do.

Here's one for you to try:

After the chicken is laying down "hipnotized", put a piece of cloth over her head, in such a way that the eye facing upwards is covered. After you do that, one of it's eyes will be facing the ground and the other will be unable to see anything due to the covered head. The chicken will lay on the ground until the cloth is removed.
