For your info: this Cobra is a replica with an US V8 5.7L Ford engine. its best time on the 1/4 mile track was 12.710 secs

That being said, yes there are few import sports cars...but when ford and chevy finally close shop or lose even more of the market, im sure imports will be glad to fill that void as well. @Dshaws90fordf150 a stock r34 isnt that fast they only have 340hp from factory to coinside the japans car maker agreement ( to try make cars safer by limiting there power outputs) but with some bigger turbos they can make 600hp at the wheels on stock internals, nismo released special r34s with 550hp from factory and will do 10 second 1/4 miles, called the z tune, also rememeber the stock gtr has 340hp and wieghs 1600 kilos the coby probs has over 400 hp and wieghs just over a ton

That was not a 427 cobra due to there are Youtube videos of them Recently racing them against the new ZR1 corvette and winning. Stock skyline is at best a 16 to 15 second car new out the box and is considered a poor mans sports car like the mustang in japan not a high dollar over hyped luxury car its made out to be in America. On that note the cars photograph well but in person they look like a cheap compact car from the 80s.
People, stock for stock this is a damn fair race and I'm willing to wager neither car is modded much if at all. Cobra has a 427 big block making over 500hp, probably right around 500rwhp. Skyline has a twin-turbo'd RB straight six making nearly 500hp, don't know how much to the wheels since it's AWD and not RWD. It is safe to say the guy driving the Cobra missed a gear as you can hear sadly though :(
I've watched that vid. 4 times now. You can clearly see the cobra getting almost a full car length on the skyline in the first few secounds of that run. Then the cobra slows for some unexplained reason (could have been a missed shift or something wrong with the car) then regains speed again. The whole vid it's self is deciving. There is no "tree", no time slips. For all anyone knows the cobra could have chased the guy down at the end of the track? You ricers guys need to do beter than that.

That being said the Cobra is dangerously fast, but not something that a skyline gtr couldnt beat. They would have relatively the same 0-60, but the gtr would crush it on top end, hands down. That and the skyline wouldnt slow (for unexplained reasons), because its made to a higher standard.

The 1-2 shift requires passing the reverse gear "gate," so maybe something happened there. The stock "wire" shifters don't exactly have a precise feel, either.
That said, there's no telling what gearbox or shifter was put in it or the condition of those parts since it's a kit car.
@65ShelbyClone I've never missed a 1-2 shift in anything. Not a 1 ton wrecker or a VW bug. Even if if had the old Mustang 2 shifter (Pinto) you still shouldn't miss it. Especially not a top loader or a new style Mustang 5 speed. If he's going to build it and spend 30k on the car, it should have a decent shifter in it. Now, if was running a 3 speed (I don't know why he would), there would be a reason.
@65ShelbyClone Most of the cobra kit cars use 90's Mustang parts, normall inluding the trans and shifter as well. it could be an old top loader 4 speed, but those are hard to come by. I'd go ahead and use the newer 5 speed, it can handle the pwoer as long as it's not something crazy like a twin turbo or something. New article in Car Craft has a new 2011 Shelby version of the GT-500 with a supercharged 5.4 beating the 427 in the 1/4 with all the niceties of a new car. Pretty impressive.

Original fat motor(427 FE) AC Cobras held the 0-100-0mph record for a long time at around 14 seconds, which is pretty fuckin quick. Yes, a true 427 Cobra running right with a good driver would be quite hard for any skyline to beat.

But the vintage car does cost a lot because its old and few exist, youll have to give me that....

@Dantesdoom it's a 2.5 turbo with RWD also uses NEO VVL. i've driven a few they like to be revved but no doubt the cobra would win if the driver wasn't a fucktard

I don't see why anybody is REALLY surprised, thousands of $ of 1960's R&D from a handful of engineers in a tiny company vs millions of $ of 1990's R&D from a huge technically advanced corporation without a need to see a return on investment for this project!!!
What's REALLY surprising is that the Cobra is still clearly very competative even now in 21st century. An that's a real testament to the talents of AC and Shelby.

That was definitely not a misshift. Some engine trouble istead. He just shifted in 2nd gear and wasn't time to shift in 3rd yet.

Pretty funny how people think the Skyline is a bad ass car, when a 40 year old car almost raped it. Yes it didn't because the guy driving it didn't know how to shift. Look up the specs on a Cobra. Mustang still hasn't gotten there car to beat this thing. The Cobra goes 0-60 in 4.4 seconds. In a fucking rear wheel drive! Mustang has there down to 4.6 I believe. I don't know about there super snake, but bottom line is. Cobra is the worlds badest fucking car!

@Dshaws90fordf150 a stock r34 isnt that fast they only have 340hp from factory to coinside the japans car maker agreement ( to try make cars safer by limiting there power outputs) but with some bigger turbos they can make 600hp at the wheels on stock internals, nismo released special r34s with 550hp from factory and will do 10 second 1/4 miles, called the z tune, also rememeber the stock gtr has 340hp and wieghs 1600 kilos the coby probs has over 400 hp and wieghs just over a ton

That was not a 427 cobra due to there are Youtube videos of them Recently racing them against the new ZR1 corvette and winning. Stock skyline is at best a 16 to 15 second car new out the box and is considered a poor mans sports car like the mustang in japan not a high dollar over hyped luxury car its made out to be in America. On that note the cars photograph well but in person they look like a cheap compact car from the 80s.

People, stock for stock this is a damn fair race and I'm willing to wager neither car is modded much if at all. Cobra has a 427 big block making over 500hp, probably right around 500rwhp. Skyline has a twin-turbo'd RB straight six making nearly 500hp, don't know how much to the wheels since it's AWD and not RWD. It is safe to say the guy driving the Cobra missed a gear as you can hear sadly though :(

I've watched that vid. 4 times now. You can clearly see the cobra getting almost a full car length on the skyline in the first few secounds of that run. Then the cobra slows for some unexplained reason (could have been a missed shift or something wrong with the car) then regains speed again. The whole vid it's self is deciving. There is no "tree", no time slips. For all anyone knows the cobra could have chased the guy down at the end of the track? You ricers guys need to do beter than that.

@skcharger440 Cobra never got a CAR lead on him off the line....your looking at the race from an angle....ever been to a drag strip before? That being said the Cobra is dangerously fast, but not something that a skyline gtr couldnt beat. They would have relatively the same 0-60, but the gtr would crush it on top end, hands down. That and the skyline wouldnt slow (for unexplained reasons), because its made to a higher standard.

@skcharger440 that skyline isn't a ricer. i know cobras are crazy fast but if u look at the numbers, skyline weighs like 1.5 tones. the cobra is like a feather compared to that, and there is a huge power difference. aprox. 500 hp on cobra vs a 400 less hp in the skyline. obvious win. respect to both cars. no respect to drivers.

The 1-2 shift requires passing the reverse gear "gate," so maybe something happened there. The stock "wire" shifters don't exactly have a precise feel, either.
That said, there's no telling what gearbox or shifter was put in it or the condition of those parts since it's a kit car.

@65ShelbyClone I've never missed a 1-2 shift in anything. Not a 1 ton wrecker or a VW bug. Even if if had the old Mustang 2 shifter (Pinto) you still shouldn't miss it. Especially not a top loader or a new style Mustang 5 speed. If he's going to build it and spend 30k on the car, it should have a decent shifter in it. Now, if was running a 3 speed (I don't know why he would), there would be a reason.

@65ShelbyClone Most of the cobra kit cars use 90's Mustang parts, normall inluding the trans and shifter as well. it could be an old top loader 4 speed, but those are hard to come by. I'd go ahead and use the newer 5 speed, it can handle the pwoer as long as it's not something crazy like a twin turbo or something. New article in Car Craft has a new 2011 Shelby version of the GT-500 with a supercharged 5.4 beating the 427 in the 1/4 with all the niceties of a new car. Pretty impressive.

Original fat motor(427 FE) AC Cobras held the 0-100-0mph record for a long time at around 14 seconds, which is pretty fuckin quick. Yes, a true 427 Cobra running right with a good driver would be quite hard for any skyline to beat.
