Jazz is great.Rush is great.(seen em' twice) I have met my share of arrogant rock and blues players(..and I've met a few of em' over the years)..but you know what? Who cares??Can't we just enjoy John and Martin Pizzarelli peeling the paint off the walls here????
I LOVE this! Please! Take the "better than " arguments somewhere else.
Believe me,if John Pizzarelli saw these fights-he would just laugh and shake his head.Get a life people.
Of all the Yngwie's, DellaVega's, DiMeola's and the like, John plays like Joscho and sings like a young Sinatra. He and his Dad are something to behold.
@pazgabriel DEMAISSSSSSS>>>>>Wonderful..............Esse John Pizzarelli já gravou um disco só com música brasileira.Volta e meia ele está por aqui......
@jazzaces294 Maybe a custom gibson es150... but this one have 7 strings (the john's guitar), this guitars have a great clean sound...hope this help you (sorry my english, I'm from argentina)
@hachirokuman it's not a gibson, it's a private label guitar. Bucky plays a Benedetto and I forgot what John plays. A Gibson would be considerably darker in tone, this is a hard carved arch top. Nice clean sound indeed.
Yeah... I've seen this guy in concert, and he isn't cocky, he's just trying to give you a show. A lot of musicians incorporate comedy into their shows. And some musicians like to groove a little while they perform, which is actually a really good thing to do while you perform. I can't see why anyone would think all these musicians are cocky. Lol
@ElTeaBill A 7 string guitar will allow you play many more low notes to create your own bass line. they usually dont sound too good when making chords, but for playing bass notes in between, they are pretty helpful.
I always laugh when I see commentary on these things from rock guitarists-- Rock players haven't even the vaguest notion of the theory, conception, creativity, mastery, sophistication, artistry, virtuosity and soul that are needed to be able to play like this. If they did, they'd be playing jazz. What do you need to play rock? A loud amplifier, long greasy hair, a tin ear, and about 4 major chords...
@pollocaco2007 Rock guitarists gonna never learn more than they need to make their even more unknowledgeable fans drunkenly cream their boxers/panties...
I'm really not surprised that your uploads are solely pop recordings and mash-ups. Want a real mash-up? watch?v=k0Tj7FhTLDg
He played that yesterday at Butler University in our performance hall. It's more awesome than you'll probably ever be able to comprehend.
@RobarthVideo I would love to hear their "attempts" at improvising over Herbie Hancock's " Dolphin Dance" or even standards like "Stella by Starlight", "Airegin", "Desafinato", "You and the Night and the Music", etc., etc., etc....... you need more than the "box scale". I play 47 years now, all styles; rock, country, blues and for the last 25 years jazz. These guys you mention have great technique, but, believe me, it's a whole other game.
@epf1961 i wonder why so many jazzers are so cocky. i think they are jealous because the mainstream likes rock more and jazz is in the shadows now. either way, ive grown to learn to appreciate or at least respect all style of music to a degree. i dont like most hip hop, but i havent just labeled all hip hop as shit since i was in 9th grade. grow up dude. thats just ignorant. music is music no matter how complex or soulful it is. i bet you think metal music is just as simple as rock too.
Jazz players aren't "cocky". All musicians have an ego, if not they couldn't get up on stage and play. When I used to play every weekend that is what kept me going. I became a badass and wanted to show off for 3 hours. It's better than getting drunk - I drank Coke or Pepsi - and it's a natural high while the spotlight is on.
Cocky? Anyone who performs - even politicians - has to have some attitude or they aren't gonna make it.
@alwaysopen youre talking about confidence. to be cocky is to be excessively proud of oneself or just overconfident. confidence is a must to perform on a stage, but cockiness is not. all cockiness will get you is a bad reputation. theres a huge difference between cocky and confident. i think its funny how rock and blues players are so humble and easygoing while hardcore jazzers and heavy metal musicians are more cocky than not. "complex" music just gives ppl big heads.
@ciano15 i think its funny how rock and blues players are so humble and easygoing while hardcore jazzers and heavy metal musicians are more cocky than not. "complex" music just gives ppl big heads.

@Consleazy You got it all wrong. I am a metal lover in a jazz band. forced to listen to my jazz directors talk down on my favorite music all the time, but since i love jazz too, i dont say anything about it. i wasnt talking about pizzarelli being cocky, i was talking about all the dipshits on youtube. i know all about jazz, blues, and music history..i kinda had to take an entire year of it in college since im doing music. i deal with this shit every day. jazzers and metalheads are cocky. *derp.*
@epf1961 One example. Rush. Count how many chords they use in one song (I'll give you a hint, many of their songs are over 15 minutes long, I doubt you could make a song with 4 chords that long). And by the way, you're thinking of pop bands, not Rock.
@Consleazy I'm talking QUALITY, not quantity! It's not how many changes you can cram in, it's what you do with them. The harmonic/melodic/rhythmic aspects of jazz are more sophisticated than commercial music, including blues, rock, pop, country, metal, funk, even that so-called "smooth jazz" trash. This is a FACT, not up for debate. That's PRECISELY why the other forms are COMMERCIAL: They appeal to the MASSES, who don't possess the discriminating taste required to appreciate jazz! .
@epf1961 I am a musician, I play (almost only) jazz, and mostly listen to jazz, and do I think your opinion is a little half-witted. @TomasEagleMusic exactly he can play like that live so thats why i don't think its lip sync or anything like that cuz he's a real musician unlike so many popular artists today, still i think its very well edited judging from so many camea angles.
