  • What a bass player. As in: What a terrible bass player.

  • epic solo

  • Wait... where the hell does the microphone go at 0.38 seconds?! And what's with it magically re appearing at 1.55?!?!

If this is several performances spliced together, i'm a little disappointed...

  • Very good!

  • PIZZA PIZZARELLI

  • Bravi!!

  • I wish that John Pirzzarelli would just play his guitar and cease the uninspired George Benson routine.

  • all shredders could learn from him.(exept holdsworth)

  • davis hasselhoff got some serious bass skills

  • @carpediem96 funny! :)

  • omg this is ugly jazz

  • Que bueno!

  • Puuuuuuuuuuuuutaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!! ya?

  • Jesus he fucking SINGS every note of his solos. That means he actually "knows" everything he is playing. That's like the opposite of wanking.

  • @mrrusss you are an idiot

  • @GigglingGirI

OMG, no you didn't just, like, call me an idiot. IMO, you're totally ugly. Ewwwww.

  • @mrrusss Oscar Peterson also sings when playing a solo (though he's bad singer).

  • @eaglerat1 Oscar peterson bad singer??? haha you should listen to his singing album: "Oscar sings"....really GOOD ^^ kind regards Aleks

  • The Premades.

  • I pushed the dislike button. Just in case anyone wondered.

  • @DemilichCZ always has to be one...those that get it couldn't care less.

  • One of our favorites!

  • SHIT, AT 2:05 A MICROPHONE APPEARS. JOHN CHEATS

  • @1Poyo1 he's just that good. Went and got the mic without missing a lick!

  • YOU ARE ONE SUAVE, FUCK! : )

  • A voz casada com o improviso poucos conseguem,Pizzarelli arrasa nesta questão.

  • And thats the ballad lolol

  • fucking good quality sound!

  • great mic placement and removal not to mention the extraordinary musicianship and clarity presented...Bravissimooooooooooo

  • Very, very good!!! Congratulations Pizzarelli.

  • :O

  • As amazing as the guitarist is, we can forget about the bassist. His articulation is simply amazing. He gets such a clean tone out of the instrument.

One of the most talented duos I have EVER seen.

  • Who could ask for anything more?

  • wow

  • 'and that's the ballad!'

  • A family matter. The bass player is his brother Martin.

  • Jazz is great.Rush is great.(seen em' twice) I have met my share of arrogant rock and blues players(..and I've met a few of em' over the years)..but you know what? Who cares??Can't we just enjoy John and Martin Pizzarelli peeling the paint off the walls here????

I LOVE this! Please! Take the "better than " arguments somewhere else.

Believe me,if John Pizzarelli saw these fights-he would just laugh and shake his head.Get a life people.

  • Good God Almighty!!

  • Mestre !!!

  • Awesome thing, the double-bass player is his brother.

  • Paul Rudd looks a lot like John Pizzarelli

  • Estive no show do cara no Ibirapuera-Sp.

    Simplesmente ESPETACULAR!!!

    Carisma e talento, muito bom!!!

  • si malena pichot te llevo a esto pulgares arriba ;)

  • Grande Pizzarelli, semplicemente super-fantastico!!!

  • Thinking that I know what REALLY happened to Charlie Sheen. He is now playing bass in a jazz group.

  • I didn't know that Patrick Swayze and David Hasselhoff have a son- the double bass player...

  • @pampiriram Looks to me like he's got a little Bobby Flay in him....

  • He has been also playing a Benedetto, sounds great on this classic with his brother Martin

  • Of all the Yngwie's, DellaVega's, DiMeola's and the like, John plays like Joscho and sings like a young Sinatra. He and his Dad are something to behold.

  • It ain't the axe, its the cat swingin it

  • Brasil loves Pizzarelli, and Pizzarelli loves Brasil....Beutiful song....

  • And that's the ballad.

  • filho de uma puta

  • @pazgabriel DEMAISSSSSSS>>>>>Wonderful..............Esse John Pizzarelli já gravou um disco só com música brasileira.Volta e meia ele está por aqui......

  • What kind of guitar is that? It sounds fantastic

  • @jazzaces294 Maybe a custom gibson es150... but this one have 7 strings (the john's guitar), this guitars have a great clean sound...hope this help you (sorry my english, I'm from argentina)

  • @hachirokuman it's not a gibson, it's a private label guitar. Bucky plays a Benedetto and I forgot what John plays. A Gibson would be considerably darker in tone, this is a hard carved arch top. Nice clean sound indeed.

  • Yeah... I've seen this guy in concert, and he isn't cocky, he's just trying to give you a show. A lot of musicians incorporate comedy into their shows. And some musicians like to groove a little while they perform, which is actually a really good thing to do while you perform. I can't see why anyone would think all these musicians are cocky. Lol

  • His brother is playing bass.

  • Can anyone enlighten me as to the advantage of playing a seven string guitar in jazz? Does it provide something for chord-melody playing?

  • @ElTeaBill I went to one of his clinics and it's just about basically keeping the rhythm with yourself.

  • @ElTeaBill A 7 string guitar will allow you play many more low notes to create your own bass line. they usually dont sound too good when making chords, but for playing bass notes in between, they are pretty helpful.

  • thats a good point about the mic? where did the mic go?

  • I'm a 30 yr jazzman and he still amazes me !

  • I always laugh when I see commentary on these things from rock guitarists-- Rock players haven't even the vaguest notion of the theory, conception, creativity, mastery, sophistication, artistry, virtuosity and soul that are needed to be able to play like this. If they did, they'd be playing jazz. What do you need to play rock? A loud amplifier, long greasy hair, a tin ear, and about 4 major chords...

  • @epf1961 so that's why there's nothing better than melodic neoclassical metal :)

  • @epf1961 haters gonna hate.

  • @pollocaco2007 Rock guitarists gonna never learn more than they need to make their even more unknowledgeable fans drunkenly cream their boxers/panties...

I'm really not surprised that your uploads are solely pop recordings and mash-ups. Want a real mash-up? watch?v=k0Tj7FhTLDg

He played that yesterday at Butler University in our performance hall. It's more awesome than you'll probably ever be able to comprehend.

  • @pollocaco2007

Yep, they come out in droves for all of the wrong reasons.

  • @epf1961 but some of long greasy haired rock guitarist are at least on the same (mb higher) level of playing as Pizzarelli

  • @RobarthVideo name one !

  • @skipheaton Chris Broderick, Steve Vai, Randy Rhoads, Marty Friedman (in composing), me (lol, jk)

  • @RobarthVideo I would love to hear their "attempts" at improvising over Herbie Hancock's " Dolphin Dance" or even standards like "Stella by Starlight", "Airegin", "Desafinato", "You and the Night and the Music", etc., etc., etc....... you need more than the "box scale". I play 47 years now, all styles; rock, country, blues and for the last 25 years jazz. These guys you mention have great technique, but, believe me, it's a whole other game.

  • @skipheaton I forgot mention Jimmy Page, but still, you proved me wrong.

  • @RobarthVideo I'm curious....When making that statement...are you referring to on the same level harmonically, technically, in terms of creativity?

  • @rz0svp To answer your curiosity, I reffer to technically (Broderick) and creativity (Jimmy Page)

  • @epf1961 Not all rock is AC/DC, however...

  • @epf1961 i wonder why so many jazzers are so cocky. i think they are jealous because the mainstream likes rock more and jazz is in the shadows now. either way, ive grown to learn to appreciate or at least respect all style of music to a degree. i dont like most hip hop, but i havent just labeled all hip hop as shit since i was in 9th grade. grow up dude. thats just ignorant. music is music no matter how complex or soulful it is. i bet you think metal music is just as simple as rock too.

  • @ciano15

Jazz players aren't "cocky". All musicians have an ego, if not they couldn't get up on stage and play. When I used to play every weekend that is what kept me going. I became a badass and wanted to show off for 3 hours. It's better than getting drunk - I drank Coke or Pepsi - and it's a natural high while the spotlight is on.

Cocky? Anyone who performs - even politicians - has to have some attitude or they aren't gonna make it.

  • @alwaysopen youre talking about confidence. to be cocky is to be excessively proud of oneself or just overconfident. confidence is a must to perform on a stage, but cockiness is not. all cockiness will get you is a bad reputation. theres a huge difference between cocky and confident. i think its funny how rock and blues players are so humble and easygoing while hardcore jazzers and heavy metal musicians are more cocky than not. "complex" music just gives ppl big heads.

  • @ciano15

That is your interpretation and if you feel comfortable with it stick with it and stay your course.

Is Rush "cocky'? Their music is as complex as you want but, are they big headed?

  • @ciano15 i think its funny how rock and blues players are so humble and easygoing while hardcore jazzers and heavy metal musicians are more cocky than not. "complex" music just gives ppl big heads.

I think it's funny that you don't know what you're talking about. Blues is 90% of what Jazz is and Heavy Metal is a sub-category of Rock. He's funny, not cocky. *Derp*

  • @Consleazy You got it all wrong. I am a metal lover in a jazz band. forced to listen to my jazz directors talk down on my favorite music all the time, but since i love jazz too, i dont say anything about it. i wasnt talking about pizzarelli being cocky, i was talking about all the dipshits on youtube. i know all about jazz, blues, and music history..i kinda had to take an entire year of it in college since im doing music. i deal with this shit every day. jazzers and metalheads are cocky. *derp.*

  • @epf1961 Coming from a jazz musician, I tend to disagree.

  • @KwameNewton Kwame, watchoo doin havin a top comment on a really awesome video like this? -Jesse

  • @epf1961 One example. Rush. Count how many chords they use in one song (I'll give you a hint, many of their songs are over 15 minutes long, I doubt you could make a song with 4 chords that long). And by the way, you're thinking of pop bands, not Rock.

  • @Consleazy I'm talking QUALITY, not quantity! It's not how many changes you can cram in, it's what you do with them. The harmonic/melodic/rhythmic aspects of jazz are more sophisticated than commercial music, including blues, rock, pop, country, metal, funk, even that so-called "smooth jazz" trash. This is a FACT, not up for debate. That's PRECISELY why the other forms are COMMERCIAL: They appeal to the MASSES, who don't possess the discriminating taste required to appreciate jazz! .

  • @epf1961 I am a musician, I play (almost only) jazz, and mostly listen to jazz, and do I think your opinion is a little half-witted. Some rock musicians are amazing, Santana has incredible phrasing, Cobain did incredibly soulful music, Beatles were pure geniuses and George's solo in Something is so witty and beautiful! Saying that Knopfler lacks creativity, Brian May lacks sophustication and Malmsteen lacks technique is downright stupid.

  • @epf1961 Pure ignorance.

  • @epf1961 Why don't you go ask John Pizzarelli and let's see what he thinks. You clearly aren't a musician.

  • WHERE DOES HIS MICROPHONE GO (0.40) AND REAPPEAR FROM (1:58)?

  • @TomasEagleMusic

    Look at 0:50

  • Comment removed

  • @TomasEagleMusic So much for a LIVE recording.

  • @TomasEagleMusic thats called stage crew and its their work to make things appear and reappear on live shows, tv etc, etc... he don´t need it for guitar solos and it makes the camera miss some good angles because the mic is on the middle.

  • @TomasEagleMusic obviously not a live show lol

  • @TomasEagleMusic Maybe one of those retractable that goes into the floor..... Good eye sir!

  • @TomasEagleMusic There never was a microphone...

  • @xxNailFirexx there was actually

  • @TomasEagleMusic I believe it was the solo time, but he still did the "doo bee da ba doo"!

  • @TomasEagleMusic well inspected. i don't know where it goes but probably some roadie took it off and on reallly fast and they edited it out very well, still cool though :)

  • @ukijhu97 Someone else said the same thing a while ago... makes no sense to me however. The bass player's face looks almost embarrassed at some stages, like they've done several takes maybe. Quite certain it's mimed - but he can play just like that live anyway, so it doesnt really matter!

  • @TomasEagleMusic exactly he can play like that live so thats why i don't think its lip sync or anything like that cuz he's a real musician unlike so many popular artists today, still i think its very well edited judging from so many camea angles.

  • @TomasEagleMusic this is probably not the full video, so we can't see the part where he moves the mic

  • holy shit! I just peed my pants

  • Sublime. This is the "goods".

  • Any other similar artists y'all would recommend?

  • @musicprodigy19 Les Paul and Mary Ford, Les Paul Trio, Barney Kessel, Lou Pallo, Frank Vignola. Try these: /watch?v=9MUwb3eNZzE

    /watch?v=DYfbPUf3NlM

    /watch?v=fXUZV5KjtNw&feature=related

  • That was incredible.

  • Good stuff!

  • I am typically a Rock/Metal kind of guy, but I absolutely love this guy.

  • @ForeverAndAlwaysRock i'm exactly the same way. although i have jazz and funk roots, i'm mostly into metal, but definitely partial to john pizzarelli as a guitarist and performer

  • AWESOMNESS.
