  • i hope that one day the author kim newman would use ed wood as a vampire in one of his anno dracula stories. lugosl would'nt be there since in the anno dracula universe he died in 1918 but still...

  • I love her rapier wit and perfect features! Vanpira was a nut bag and a true freak! Godspeed i love u!

  • I think the lady is a kick. She was blacklisted in a time when politically correct was the govt's mo no the publics. My grandmother received a letter of apology from McCarthy. Maila had brains and beauty and she could dance. And listen to her speaking voice. She could have been trained to sing.

  • If you ask me she was blacklited because of the times she lived in. She had the misfortune to be living in the 1950's. Now If she where alive and well and using that look She would be a huge success. The Goth kids would adore Her. But alas she tried to exspress Her creativity in the most idiotic decade of the 20th century.

  • Great gal! Thanks!

  • why was she black listed ? anything to do with her relationship to orson welles?

  • An American Classic. Thank you Maila for being such a warm and creative individual.

  • To weird tol live. To rare to die

    Oh vampira

     Bye- bye

  • Perfection!!! To tell you i love her wouldnt

Begin.... If i could be anyone, even for a

    Day... VAMPIRA FOREVER!!!

  • Sharp, witty, big titties & pretty

  • The irony is: Morticia Addams was the inspiration for Vampira, and Vampira was the inspiration for Lily Monster and Elvira. That's odd...

  • @Adler36 Right you are about the progression of female horror characters. But 'Odd' may be the wrong word . 'Copycats' would be better. Maila Nurmi was an original.

  • i did a docudrama performance on this marvelous woman. that project got me into advanced theatre class ;) I love maila!

  • So depressing, she's incredibly inspiring.

  • i got a tattoo, it reads Maila "vampira" Syrjäniemi 1921-2008 and a picture of her by a coffin.

  • She is from Finland! =D

    Hyvä Suomi Perkele !!!! =D

  • She's my grate aunt my Maila! :)

  • @NoelleB777 Lucky

  • A ghoulish aristocrat if there ever was one. Another icon of horror gone from us but not forgotten.

  • Absolutely INCREDIBLE woman! Wish I were able to shake her hand and give her a hug and say thank you for your efforts to the Horror scene. Rest in Peace my dear.

  • She was one of my alltime camp heroines during my high school years. She had that same appeal for that Virginia Christine as the Princess Ananka. Quite a transcendental experience!

  • Some times she would say she took her character from Terry an the Pirate's Dragon Lady, and sometimes she would go with this bondage/pin up origin... maybe the truth is somewhere in the middle.

  • Does anybody know something about the photo, shown at 5:47 - 5:53 ? The time and place. And where I can find it ? I would like to add it to my Maila Nurmi - Collection.

  • How old was she , when this interview was shot ? I calculated, about 72-74 or so, right ? Call me a pervert, but she still looked great at this age. Not necessarily younger, but old AND NEVERTHELESS attractive, not like most old women with this typical granny-look. Her facial expressions were still seductive at this age.

  • Please, WHAT, WHAT IS THAT ABSOLUTELY GLORIOUS MUSIC that concludes this video?? It's stupendous !!!

  • oh my god, she was so MARVELOUS. she just amazes me. R.I.P.

  • In my opinion , one of the most attractive and charming women of the 20th century, with an amazing charisma !!! R.I.P. Maila !

  • wopw!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • R.I.P

  • is she a Vampira?is she dead?

  • Yes.

  • I just don't understand, why was she blacklisted? People loved her, she was all the rage and seems to be a wonderful personality. What happened? <3!

  • Too bad she was treated so poorly- blacklisted! Pretty extreme if you ask me. She was beautiful.

  • What a bright, funny, interesting woman.

  • great video

  • Thanks for posting.

  • i discovered maila nurmi in the nineties and became an instant fan. her sinister/seductive creation is a pop icon and will never be forgotten.

    REQUIESCAT IN PACE.

  • R.I.P. lovely lady.

  • sex & death...a woman after my own heart

  • The one and only horror queen.

    R.I.P. Maila Nurmi.

  • your work is done in this world ...go forth to the next

WE WILL ALL SEE ONE ANOTHER AGAIN

    R.I.P

    VAMPIRA

  • Ah, my idol.

What an amazing woman. May she rest in peace.

  • God bless Maila, God bless Vampira.

  • Vampira go to home... to grave...

  • Classy lady.

  • Good bye VAMPIRA my your rest in peace :(

  • Excellent video tribute to a true Hollywood icon. I just saw The Magic Sword and enjoyed seeing one of Miss Nurmi's clips from it included here. I can't help but notice her resemblance to Elizabeth Montgomery when she's not in Vampira mode.

  • She really could have doubled for Gloria Swanson in "Sunset Bouvlard"(she admited it was her favorite film & an influence).

  • The early-mid fifties were SO conservative, people were looking for ANY escape from the humdrum & boring, ridged lives they were conditioned to live. Vampira(Nurmi) was like a lighting bolt to the world(James Dean was interested in her). I've seen a rare early photo of her- she was of Swedish decent- beautiful with blond hair & blue-green eyes. I don't believe she OR Lucy had any "Communist" tendencies- despite what anyone else(or my dad-lol) says.

  • She was born in Finland, not Sweden.

  • Why was she Black Listed?

  • People probably thought she was a communist...Thats what it means in general. Lucille Ball was also black listed...It was a pranoid time I suppose

  • Well I think you got your information mixed up here. Miss Ball was never blacklisted. She briefly testified at the HUAC hearings, as did hundreds of Hollywood folks, however Lucy was never "Blacklisted".

  • Maila Nurmi is the most fascinating personality of all time. It can honestly be said there has never been anyone like her, and that there never will. She will live on as legends always do.

  • i love her, so beautiful.

  • We all miss you! Long live Vampira! There will never be anybody like you.

    May God refresh your soul!

  • Vampira is amazing!

  • Sexiest woman of all time.

  • She was such an intelligent and insightful person. I will always admire her. I could listen to her wonderful stories all day long. A fascinating woman!

  • She is an icon.

  • great edit...thank you so much for this clip which is a great tribute to this fine lady.

  • good tribute

  • honorable mention, thanks! nice docu piece. rip.
