  • I envision a horde of leprechauns doing a circle pit when I hear this

  • Easily one of the best vocalists out there!!!!

  • @olivemitten

On the contrary, I think Skyclad's early stuff is much angrier both with respect music and lyrics. This vocal style fits them perfectly.

  • 20 years of folk metal!!!! :D

  • and then folk metal was born! \m/

  • AS much I love skyclad, Martin vocals were terrible at the begginning of the band. Epic song, anyways.

  • @axzck I agree entirely! I love his lyrics, but the vocals are... yeah, terrible, and don't give the band the feel that I like with the later stuff.

  • @olivemitten Have you guys listened to Martins vocals on Sabbat's A history of a time to come?

  • @PennyDreadful1 Well, now I have, and while they fit thrash metal very well, but not really this stuff, in my opinion.

  • @PennyDreadful1 I Saw Sabbat live in Glasgow long ago they were brilliant the tiny crowd and the road crew were awesome .It still makes me smile thinking of that gig .

  • @feckneddy wish i could say the same about a particular folk metal band called ensiferum. theyre dead to me, as harsh as it sounds, without a particular lead vocalist/guitarist.

  • @PennyDreadful1 ...... memorized every word... not bad for an american, eh?... a couple years back, Cradle of Filth played in America, and i had the chance to talk with Dani... we spent most of our time chatting about Sabbat, Martin, Skyclad, and Jeff Wayne's musical version of the War of the Worlds... not all Americans are without class and culture... (but most of them are.)

  • I remember buying this album on tape when it first came out,it's still fantastic..decent instrument playing/vocals & lyrics that make you think when you listen to them :)

  • Soo, I hear this is sort-of the band that started the folk-metal scene?

  • @ccatdaddy64 They were indeed! Skyclad were the original folk metal band. And after all these years, still my fave folk metal band. xD

  • @ccatdaddy64 yes sir. what AngelicStorm1 said. the style then began to appear in scandinavia with bands like Shaman, Korpiklaani, Trollfest, Finntroll, etc.

  • the intro bass riff was sexy :D

  • First song I've ever heard of Skyclad... LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!!! **

it's a shame that Martin left it, because now I don't like Skyclad anymore :(

  • the first folk metal song º_º is impossible to not like this

  • That song is f*cking awesome!

  • I love to dance so this song I love also for it makes me dance! :)

  • Skyclad and this song especially were way ahead of their it's time.

  • this song is just awesome...

  • Martin Walkyier took me through my darkest days 20 years ago. I owe him eternally. Greetings from Sweden.

  • I'm suprised by some of the comments from English folk saying they've never heard of this band. I'm South African and have been enjoying Skyclad since 1998.

    My forefathers were Irish/Scotish

  • @samothesamo unfortunatly England has a reputation of inventing musical genres that no-one within said country likes :( Hell a shit ton of people dont know who iron maiden or black sabbeth are so you cant expect them to know some of the more obscure stuff.Again :(

  • anyone know were i can find sheet for this song?=)

  • Martin leave Sabbat and rejoin Skyclad.

  • Folk metal article in Wikipedia wrongly attributes Skyclad with starting the style. I think only the modern folk metal (after 1990), folk music and european heavy metal has always been in close contact, starting from Led Zeppelin.

  • Spinal Tap : Stonehenge is folk metal xD

  • @Simpson654 that depends where you draw a heavy metal line...surely zepellin are more 'rock' (i hate classifying music this way anyway tbh :P)

  • Damn that bass line is groovy.

  • @MezzyArktide90 the bass reminds me of 'bad to the bone'

I know i'll get lynched in here for saying that, but eff it

  • A timeless classic in metal and whatsmore, some of the most thoughtful well-written lyrics you will ever hear.

  • Glad you like the song!

  • i am of irish descent. Hail to skyclad

  • well since this is irish type music, thats what it has to do with. also, i take it based on your harsh stance towards irish peoplle you are british. since you brought that up, irish were oppressed by the tyrants of britain. the freed the catholic countries but kept protestant ireland under british oppression. What is your response to thus

  • "well since this is irish type music"

    its english type music..

  • skyclad is good now, it was not only martin, i admire him, but he was not skyclad, now its the kevin ridley era, and the last album from the clad is good, not as the wayward sons, but its nice to hear it

  • The new stuff is good, some very good songs, but live in terms of vocals he cannot deliver the early tracks with the same power and conviction as Martin.

  • @Fuzzleredmenn and Blackraven567- Aye, Kevin is a very good singer. Martin, however, is far more passionate in my opinion.

  • Of course. He cant be matched, he is a true original.

  • anyone wanting the new mr Walkyer stuff A Beautiful Start To The End Of The World - The Clan Destined

  • martin is a modern day poet of the highest order hung out with the band when they played dublin in 1996 on the piss for the day and a great gig afterwards skyclad are fuckin legendary and top blokes too what a day!!!!!

  • MASTERPIECE!!!

  • I can only agree ... no words

most underestimated band of the world

  • Yeah! They have lots of fans but mostly OUTSIDE England and Newcastle! How lame is that? And why it is so I wonder?

  • Is it because it's more Celtic then Anglo Saxon (even though Walkyier is rooted in English paganism). Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Norway & similar areas are still in tune with that somewhat. It could be pluged into the fact that historically many "Celtic" countries have a history of anti imperialism that bonds them & amplifies the influence of their shared heritage & thus mabey we are more likely to like this sort of thing. ???

    Im not anti English.

& Im not stoned either - it's just a theory!

  • No you misunderstood. Im' not commenting on the fact that they have a sizeable audience abroad but on the fact that they have virtually no audience in their home country. When I was a student in the UK few brits from those I talked too even had heard of them. Weird...

    Greetings from Greece!

  • You're so right, I only found them out recently, and now I'm really into them, but no other Brits seem to have heard of them. But British taste in music has gone down the shitter nowadays so I don't expect many Brits to appreciate a band as great as Skyclad

  • I understand (I think) - what I mean is that because the English dont identify with that tradition anymore (Apart from stories like Robin Hood) they dont have an appreciation of the musics sentiment & therefore no appreciation of the music. Hi from Ireland.

  • Some would say that is because British culture nowadays got "bastardized" because of all the immigrants coming in Britain. I don't believe that tough. Mixing 9 times out of 10 reinvigorates not deteriorates a culture. I think what you say happens in Britain is a worldwide phenomenon due to the "new world order" and shit.

Ireland, beautiful proud country. Did you know that according to some theories Greeks and Celts may be (very distantly) related?

  • Oh definatly a world wide thing. It's funny you mention the mixed culture argument, I was going to say mabey it could be an influence but I steered away from it. I agree - it's not bastardized but mabey it's more of a "Uniculture" with no one ruling trend but I suppose that's the same idea just different words. As for NWO - I am begining to believe it. North American, European, African & Asian unions? - Im voting no to the Lisbon Treaty (AGAIN!) - were not called "The Fighting Irish" for nothing

  • Overlooked and underrated you mean?

  • @BlackRaven567 Indeed! :)

  • youre a gay hobbit.

  • Why insulting people who like this stuff ?

  • fuck you retard!!!!!!

if you dont like it just surpass it

  • Why did this guy get downrated?

  • Go listen to the Ramones, you teeniebopper wanker.

  • martin and skyclad gives these songs energy that the new guy just cant give. the new guy is good in his own way but martin does these songs better

  • Best song EVER!

  • Correct me if i'm wrong, but wasn't this the first Folk Metal song ever written?

    Well it owns

    Long Live Skyclad

  • according to wikipedia it is! the start to a truly great genre!

  • U should be careful 'bout referrin' to wikipedia

  • It has a Reference -Encyclopaedia Metallum

  • Fuckin' hell i had the damn signed sweat shirt of this album for 17 years and fuckin' left it back at my old place when i moved. How gutted i was.

This has to be the most legendary folk band of all time, sabbat were just as classic, i saw them too. LEGENDS in the making. Id like to see fukin' nu-metal do as great as this, MY ARSE....!!!!

  • why do you says arse? shoud not you say ass?

  • Although it may be a foreign concept to you, not everybody in the world pronounces things like an American... It was England's language first after all.

Just FYI , an ass is a donkey, your arse is what you sit on.

  • i didnt say it was i just didnt know and was curious

  • wow i didnt know that, i thougt the canadians and native americans put their heads together to create the english language. no shit its englands language i was just askin what you say arse for, and its not a foreign concept, i'm not american at all, i just happen to live here

  • Because "arse" is more British and snarky-like. :-)

  • This song is fucking awesome. Folk metal ftw.

  • Holy shit im so happy about these guys,Without them they wouldnt have the sickest Genre of Metal.

  • Awesomeness!

  • the wayward sons of mother earth

  • can u put skyclads name in front of the song title?

  • The first folk metal album, and still the best.

  • "Hey guys, what can we do to have people take our music seriously?"

    "Lets add a Violin!!"

    And then there was Skyclad

  • "It was always my heartfelt dream too see the energy of metal mixed with elements from more traditional styles"-Martin Walkyrier

  • The First Folk Metal Song Ever!!!

And It Is A Complete MASTERPIECE!!!!

But Martin's just a genious, in Sabbat AND The Clan Destaned!

  • Clan Destined weren't that great, altho' i was invited to the gig party after, awesome!

  • didnt this like invent folk metal???

  • yeah

  • One of the first Pagan/Folk-Metal Songs ever - Hails to M.Walkyr and Skyclad!

  • wow this band is amazing, thanks for video a new fan!

  • Just a GREAT Band! Am a HUGE Sabbat fan, was sad to see Martin go, but was very happy when he created Skyclad :) This album and "Prince of the Poverty Line" are my faves! Walkier- the Dickens/Shakespear Bard of Metal Lyrics! -MAVIII (prOgulus. c o m)

  • that was my first album and then the trip in metal begun but this album had a so strong baland and i want to be uploaded

  • You want o be uploaded??? XD

    quite cool band

  • This off the album that got into heavy metal. After hearing sky beneath my feet - I had to go for run because of all the adrenaline.

    I was only about 13.

  • This is wonderful=)

  • anyone have the no daylights nor heeltaps version?

  • No one needs this version!

  • I heard its pretty good.

Or as one guy in metal archives put it an "utter masterpiece".

    That just got me curious.

  • It maybe good if you don´t know the original version, but in my opinion the early skyclad-stuff does not work without Martins voice.

  • No no no he was fully aware of the original.

He was an old Skyclad fan from what i got it.

It was in a review of no daylights nor heeltaps.

I just wanted to hear that new version to see for myself.

  • this is the original version....

  • what album is the origional on?

  • What the hell is it showing, cant you see???

  • nice- the first folk metal song EVER! ...classic
