pixie poet--i will take asmussen's word for it--she takes this all in stride and indeed is liking the attention--the best horses do know it--secretariat was a ham by the time he finished his racing career by all acounts.
Well, Pixie Poet, you are not a horse, so stop anthropomorphizing. I've worked with many horses, and seen many react quite favorably to applause (and yes, many of them, including my own, know thier name) by dancing and collecting, a form of showing off. So go back to your "comfy quiet paddock" (stall, actually) and continue to watch her at what she apparently loves - running.
If I were her, I'd hate all that noise. It would be so annoying. We humans know people are rooting for us, but horses just hear a bunch of unintelligible clamor! I'm sure she was glad to get back to the nice comfy quiet paddock!
I am certain that they pick up on the energy of the crowd and excitement. Performance horses - racehorses thrive on the attention - the limelight - and they do enjoy the down time and quite of their stalls. Good horses like her are treated like royalty. There is alot done to make sure every need is met and that they stay in a good mental state as well as physical conditions. With filly's and mares it's most important that they are happy.
lol!!!-that cracks me up--ya know--i disagree with alot of what the guy says but he does make ya think--and well--he has his own sound opinions so i respect him-still don't agree with him all the time though...lol you are so lucky to have been there--your little vid gave me goosebumps--somehow there is an enormity about her and this year--we will talk about this year years from now--like we talk about ruffian and other greats---i really believe that.
How amazing is it that we (in some weird way) seek to get hunter's approval. I've often thought about it myself over the last month or so we've been jabbing at each other. I guess since he's the main opponent on here we have no other choice. In a way it's fun watching him wear down though. Deep down he knows he loves the filly just like everybody else. He just love Zenyatta more.
Poor thing looks exhausted.

She's one of those Prospector descendants. You can see it in her just walking by. Great filly, class horse.
