  • Nutan - simplest & prettiest actress of Bollywood..Just Love her!!

  • I have another translation because i think the above does not do justice: Another moonlit night You are still gone And I burn again O where do i find respite? This night is witness that days with you are past, I know that you are not mine Yet still i stand Spreading my gaze to find you O where can i find respite? I still remember you. This slow burn inside me rises as anguish Perhaps you will return Please, its difficult to breathe My body stiil burns in the memory of The desire you kindled.
  • Kash woh din nahi badale aur hame aisi gane baar baar sunne ko miley. Kya geet hai. We miss such melodies today Sivaramakrishnan Hyderabad

  • I cannot forget Nutan for her acting in Anaadi with Rajkapoor of 1950s-I saw in 1958

  • Italian-Chrstian Sonia Gandhi and her puppet Sikh Manmohan cannot have such love for Mother India as most of the Indians do. The word Congress means corruption. Get rid of these people. WHAT A SUPERB SONG!

  • I wish 2day sch composers wr alive

  • music S.D. Burman ......... abb kahan se laoon aisay musicians ? aaaaah

  • Wah Nutan. She died at a very young age.I think she was hardly 56 years old when she died of cancer.

  • From Paying Guest, music maestro SD ji. Dev and Nutan. Need more be said? My fellow music lovers, neither our ears, hearts nor our brains remain wired for such masterpieces. This is iTuxx generation - or more like iTOON generation. We are lucky if they can hold their thoughts for 4 seconds.

  • Only the very best artists use to be at the top, but now with no filter anybody can sing and act. I feel like I can also become what I want ..LOL. The quality of music and acting has deteriorated so much that it stinks. I was and I am still a great fan of Hindi movies and music but I simply can't tolerate Bollywood.

  • wonderful composition...thnx for uploading !!!

  • i love this song

  • Nutans face is looking like a moon only....so radiant...

  • I like this is a song so much, the expressions of Nutan, the greatness of liric, the composition of the song ARE superb. This song alone have brought glory to sad songs in the industry - Prabhakara Rao.

  • good song I like the rythmn in it it is great ond soft but the melody of Lataji is the dominating factor. WOW!!!! wonderful,

  • love this so much

  • Soul touching song. I still wonder how these type songs are written and sung.

  • They want to make their music sell-able in England and America. Lot of English words, rap and western tune. That's it.

  • lata is lata

  • thats what 1 may say a real sweet "utopia", its a dream, its exists, but don't last long ,i mean not for ever.... real dream, BUT WHAT A MARVELLOUS MASTERPIECE of poetry

  • becoz new MD r not music directors but shit makers

  • It has to be one of the greatest in terms of the lyrics, the background music, the feeling with which the song is sung by Lata. Masterpiece.

  • one of the best composed song for lata,my favourite - gopal

  • virah ki sthiti mein is se behtar song nahi ho sakt , it is fantastic, and very emotional song.

  • Great song of yesteryears. Nostalgic moments !

  • The moon appears again but you have not come yet.

    My heart burns and aches.

    What should I do now?

This night says those days are gone.

My heart knows that you are not mine.

Yet I am standing looking for you anxiously.

    What should I do now?

The smoke rises from my burning heart.

Do come back please, for I find it difficult to even breathe.

  • @Khadimsubhpoto Thank you so much for the translation.

  • Thank you so much for posting the translation for this song.

Now I appreciate it even more that I know what is means.

  • Lata, Nutan, S.D. Burman, Majrooh....4 immense talents...1 heart-wrenchingly beautiful song.

As good as it gets with respect to the oldies

  • beautiful poetry by the great lyricist majrooh , adorned by the sublime composition of the versatile genius sachin da and rendered by our beloved lataji who is saakshaat saraswati herself , combined with picturisation on talented and natural artist nutan produces an immortal gem that can be heard endlessly .! so many good comments have been given but there is hardly anything left to say

  • The period between 50s and 60s still remains a golden one in the Hindi Film music world

  • great song,evergreen , painfull

  • chand aahe bharega sitare dil tham lenge jab tujhe dekhenge. thank you

  • Listen to the instruments' support to the Lata's voice. All instruments are played to enrich the song, to make the song more attractive. Excellent creation.

  • raat ke sannateme sunane ka aur maza aata hai.

  • the song Yeh Shaam Ki Tanhaiyan from Aah and this song are almost on similar lines

  • How? Not at all. Only Lata's voice, may be!

  • love soung

  • notice the minimal use of instruments when the lead singer sings. Just a faint beat, fantastic

  • Chand ko kya malum chahta use koi chakor

  • love this song....need the chords for this...will be glad if someone can help

  • Lovely song...they don't make them like this anymore...Nutan is also a classic beauty..OLD IS GOLD for sure!

  • YOU SEE!

  • Nutan, a sublime appearance actress gives notion of typical Indian female. RIP.

  • What a masterpiece. Wonder why the new crop of music directors are not able to produce such music.

  • Todays music directors don't even get 10% of the training that S D Burman got before giving us beautiful music. Read his autobiography on Sachinda group of yahoogroups.

  • @nandu1f

The reason is part of the bigger picture.

It is the result of increasing mediocrity and corruption which has become an integral part of the very culture.

  • @paradigmnnf True, but I did not realize that it has even infected Hindi popular music industry, which allowed the great artists to shine. Of course there is always some politics and "influence" in any endeavor.

  • @nandu1f

listen buddy..SD Burmans didnt come too easily even back then..hes just one of a kind.

  • @nandu1f

BECAUSE NOW A DAYS THE SOUL IS MISSING

  • Should the wait be so painful?

When can one understand the pangs of the wait?

Disappointment and despair can put ones sorrow beyond repair. Be humane to your love

  • If the wait was not painful, such beautiful songs will be made no more.

    Moti

  • One of my favorite songs...I wasn't born in that time...but I feel it....Umesh from Chicago, USA.

  • Truly beautiful song.....the melody and lyrics touch the chords of the heart !! Simply proves that you don't need fancy instruments to create memorable music !

  • awesome awesome!

  • One of my most favourite song, both singing and music, specially the prelude and interlude parts are my most favourite. First time watching the video, Nutan takes this song to higher altitudes.

  • Divine Melodious Queen - Lata ji

What more needs to be said? God has given such a beautiful gift to this world.

She has touched billions of lives. Thank God for the technology, and this precious voice is now captured on media and future generations will also be blessed with her magic.

God bless you, Lata Ji. Thank you for your contribution to this world.

  • quick can we clone Lataji before it is too late. She is a jewel the world doesnt know about.

  • With so little instrumenst, "Burman Da" composed such a lovely song & Lata Ji did justice with her immortal voice. The acting of "Nautan' is just superb.

  • Good one footy1001....thankfully no. coz we married 6 yrs later

  • Looks like Shankar-Jaikishen sent their spy to see what Sachinda is composing and composed a similar tune in raag Kalyani- 'Rasika balma' in Chori Chori.

    Srinivasan

  • And I love both of them, long live the memories of these legendary artistes.

  • Can the present film makers in Bombay produce a song and picturise at this level given a million rupees? Are there any artists left do such job? What a song. It simply revokes dormant emotions and such simple girls are there but the present day film makers bring the scum to the surface. When do we reach such heights again?

  • well look at the raw material they have to start with. today we have the "pettai rap"

  • But then the audience is to blame too. How many of us do you think would love to watch and listen to such songs today? Most of us have either lost the feel of classical music or were born musically illiterate. That's exactly why most of us resort to watching the kind of songs that are coming out today. There are very few, but still in thousands, who continue to admire songs like this one. It's upto us to ensure that good music and art is kept alive by sharing them and admiring them.

  • what a comment.........

well said...only musically illiterate people can ignore such a standard of music.

  • i respect your feeling and wants the same, but dear that era was gone, now left only nudity, voience, shor sharaba, how lucky people were that time,i remeber my dad told me that they used to go to movies with all families, but now if you are shameless then only you can see movie with family.

  • youre absolutely right my friend

  • I agree...if time is a wheel...then can we not turn back the time?

I miss the olden days....everything has changed in last 15 years..

  • superb!! Immortal music.

  • thanks for uploading this song.........i was searching for it since a long time

  • Lovely song. One of the best by Lata.

Do you know it is based on Raga Kalyaan? Raga Kalyan is very popular and easy raga to play on keyboard.

Another great Lata song based on Rag Kalyan is Rasik Balma. Thats why they sound so similar.

    Best Regards

    M Khan

  • What movie is this song from?

  • The movie is PAYING GUEST.

  • شاندار گانا ہے

  • very nice song really great job thanks for such nice jewel of the past

  • this song has a special place in my memories as it was my first stage performance and i was very nervous....a friend in my class said to me just before i sang this song on our graduation day that somebody in my class was madly in love with me and wanted to propose to me...in fact she said that he was standing in the crowd with a red rose which had made me all the more nervous....so nervous that i sang the entire song with my eyes closed and when I finished......

  • ...he made the proposal to your friend ;-)

  • one of my best songs. maine is song ko us din dhyan se suna jab mai bhi is gane ke tarh aur isi wajah se udas tha. tab se aaj tak ye mere fev songs main se hai

  • i have such a connection with the music to this song. all of my childhood memories come flooding back. it holds a very deep meaning not just restricted to the movie itself but also my personal life....gr8 work!

  • I share your feelings... I suppose many of us feel the same!

    -Javaid

  • Best!

  • my favourite Nutan song. Hauntingly beautiful!

Not surprisingly Lata singled out Nutan as the heroine whose expressions conveyed the impression that she was genuinely singing a song.

  • out of this world..........this song does not belong to this mundane ...this is heavenly

  • Awesome..... so poignant and so beautiful. Timeless.....

  • Chaand phir nikla magar tum na aaye/Jala phir mera dil karoon kya main haay/Yeh raat kehti hai woh din gaye tere/Yeh jaanta hai dil ke TUM NAHIN MERE/Khadi hoon main phir bhi nigahein bichaye/Main kya karoon haay KE TUM YAAD AAYE/Sulagte seene se dhuaan sa uthtaa hain/Lo ab chale aao ke dam ghuthta hain/Jala gayi tan ko baharon ke saaye/Main kya karoon haay ke tum yaad aaye/Chaand phir nikla MAGAR TUM NA AAYE/JALA PHIR MERA DIL KAROON KAYA MAIN -- Where you are Ganny, I'll still be waiting.

  • Worry not Lataji. Regardless of whether the moon comes out or not, we will always be here listening with appreciation to this immortal song.

  • wah ustad, ji khush keeta ie....swad aa gaya sajna.

  • for almost last fifty yrs or so but i still love this song as i did then, sooooper.

  • Wah, kya baat hai...one of the best songs ever!!Great melody, superb voice and heart wrenching picturisation.

Just see the pristine purity on Nutan's face, see the dard in her beautiful eyes when she sings the mukhda of the song!

I miss you, Nutan -you truly are beauty, purity , dignity and grace personified!!!

    Musicmaster

  • wow, what can one say, they are no words to describe such immortal lyrics, voice or music, i believe that even in a thousand years this music will be loved and people will still listen to it a sif it was fresh, oh i wish so much that i had lived in those wonderful times, there really are not any words that can speak of the beauty of such music.

  • lovely song...lata at her best !

  • This song I've been listening for the last 20 years for thousand times and have never felt like getting tired. An ever refreshing song of old memories & will last for centuries together.

  • this song would never get old.........it is new every time i listen since last 20 years

  • I have so many memories associated with this particular song...

Hum pe mushtarka hai ehsaan gham-e-ulfat ke

Itne ehsaan ki ginwaun to ginwa na sakoon

Humne is ishq me kya khoya, kya seekha hai

Jud tere aur ko samjhaun to samjha na sakoon : Faiz Ahmad Faiz

  • wat a voice! wat a song! wat an actress! wat a picturisation!

  • dat was the probably one of the first few songs my mom taught me...reminds me of childhood..luv this song!

  • Yes,she was Miss India 1952,died of canced in 1991 at age of 54 years

  • Wonderfull

  • ....................wat can ai say

  • wow

  • Mesmerising, hosh lay jaye mera. mudhoshi mein baar baar sunta hoon.

    Thanks for sharing. Beautiful.

  • Beautiful music by SD.Lata awesome as always. And Nutan is just too beautiful

  • sweet! why cant today's singer match such voice? Thanks for the post.

  • nutan is so gracefull ..correct me if i am wrong

  • Abs. right... She was such a great actor. She looks so cute and wonderful.

  • There Will never be an actress like Nutan.

  • One of my favourite two song - other being Rasik balma (nargis). I think and i am sure I am right in saying that Nutan was never Miss India but her mother Shobhna Samrath was. Please correct if I am wrong. However Nutan had that special charm and confident/intelligent/elegant beauty - neverever seen since on Indian cinema.

  • The only song she sang was from film "Chhabeeli" Her voice was good but she paid more attention to her acting carrier. The song goes like this "Ae maray hamsaar--Lay, roak apni nazar--Na,Daikh iss qadar--Yeh dil hey bara baysabar. Plz correct me if my info is incorrect thanx.

  • natural beauty with all the feminine charm!!!

  • what really wow I didn't know that

  • Yes, that is correct, she had indeed been Miss India.

Her mother was an actress, and her son is also now an actor. Less well known is that Nutan had a lovely singing voice of her own.

  • and she is also the first miss india

  • Undeniably immortalised forever is the beauty of the moment which is captured in the video.

  • nutan was known for her ability to convey the emotions of the song/ scene to the audience. and what a divine beauty she was!

  • I've had this song on video for about 10 years - I never tire of it. Possibly the most beautiful of all actresses (and what an actress!) with possibly the most beautiful voice of all time - Lata.

  • agree 100%
