The Nissan could very easily use these same tires on their production GT-R. I'm sorry they choose not to, but this is not cheating if these tires are found on the production models. @NathanSGBrazil You may want to do some do some research before posting. The 2012 ZR1 has already posted a 7:19:63. So, it looks like it got under 7:20 before Godzilla. Pony wins again. The 2012 Z06 posted a 7:22:68. So, it looks like the GT-R needs to worry about fending off little brother before going after the ZR1. Don't get me wrong, the GT-R is an amazing car, but facts are facts, and they are there in black and white on the list of Nürburgring lap times.

ZR1, with PTM on or off, has better skidpad G, accel, and top speed. The only place the GTR might have an edge is 0-60, but how often does someone need launch control in a race? ZR1 is MUCH faster 0-300k, and handles better than the GTR.... no contest.

Gotcha, yeah FWD is front, RWD you know, all wheel comes in different forms, 4WD and AWD, 4WD is 2 shaft power and can have a separate transfer case with it's own gear that allows for lower speed with more torque for mud/ice/etc. AWD can have up to 3 differentials (front center rear), the more advanced systems like Subaru's Symmetrical AWD system can transfer any amount of total power to any individual wheel using differentials and clutch packs. btw ZR1 beats GTR in all except 0-60

The fact that the zr1 driver has a power house to deal with that is a challenging car to drive and bang gears around corners at the same time tells me the zr1 is a much faster car. That gtr driver saves so much time with that twin clutch tranny, all he has to do is focus on gas and brake.
Awesome research TheMisterytour. GM says that the Michellins are not slicks but tyres installed on production ZR1. If the tyres and road conditions are as you state the GTR should be able to take 15+ seconds off it's time using equal tyres and road conditions. I will be expecting times of 7:10 or less in the future for the GTR (not really for I don't think tyres and road conditions could of been that different as your research states). 7:10 is too fast for a production car & legal tyres :-0.

but i personally dont like the vettes body build. if you ever get near one push on the back a little and watch it flex. you would think for the money they would design the supports a little better and in time it will naturally distort. build quality letting down what is as we can see a good car
both were conducted by the manufacturers at different times and neither were independantly witnessed or homologated to the point were this would be called a fair race its simply testing
but if you look and or research it properly in the ring records the vette was on a dry day on super slicks (cut slicks) the best possible conditions
whereas the gtr was on a semi wet day on performance tyres
does not mean much but its the facts and it was never meant to be a race between them
If you go to the Chevy site or to Top Gear you would realize that the Vette is using Michelin sport cup tires not racing tires. The track is dry in both cases. The latest test run the Vette did 7:19 (same driver) At the Top Gear site the Vette does better than the Ferrari Enzo. Mr. Mero is also not a professional driver though he is a very good driver. Both cars are great and the GTR cost less and has an awesome tranny. If you got the money both are great cars to own.
@DDFergy1 my point exactly with regards to the cars. but i was looking at the ring records and it states the conditions and equipment the cars were using among other details for loads of cars and the zr was running what is essentially road going slicks on a dry day. and the gtr was on a semi wet day on sport tyres it comes out the factory with. details are independent of either manufacturer. and if you look at the road in the gtr vid you see how much extra glare on the track so it makes sense

To blow holes in the stupid comments related to 638 hp vs 485. here are some facts to consier. The GTR beat the times of this list of cars that all make over 600 hp: Carrera GT - 604 hp, Koenigsegg CCR/CCX - 795 hp, Ruf RT12 - 641 hp, LP640 - 632 hp, SLR- 617 hp, and there are a host of others that it beat that have almost 100 hp more.
So obviously it is not about PEAK hp so lets not pretend it is.
The uploaders said they synced both videos at the pit exit if you watch the land marks you will see the ZR1 exits the final turn before the GTR by a few seconds ZR1in front. This video means nothing the 2012 ZR1 has ran a lap of 7:19 which makes it the second fastest mass production car one second behind the Porsche GT2 RS a twelve seconds ahead of the GTR.
I love how the ZR1 is still king even though it uses suspension technology from a roman chariot, unlike the GTR which has more technology in it than luke's x-wing and it still can't beat this beast. Kinda sad.

This is well out of date. Go to this YouTube title 2012 GT-R VS Corvette ZR1 @ Nurburgring and watch the new 2012 GT-R trash the ZR1 at the Nurburgring. The GT-R actually does a better lap time in the semi wet than the ZR1 does in the dry.
Back in June when GM Development Engineer Jim Mero drove the 2009 ZR1 around the Nurburgring in 7:26.4, we wondered out loud what that time could have been if one of Corvette Racing’s drivers, Jan Magnussen drove the Corvette ZR1 to a time of 7:22.4, besting the previous time by 4 seconds!
The G-tr also managed to lap that same track in 7 minutes and 24 point something the vid is posted on youtube and in it it also shows the zr1 lap in comparison search for "gtr zr1 Nürburgring" and you will find it.

Great vid!!! Zr1 is a truly amazing car! I work for Mercedes and have been fortunate enough to drive two SLR's, one of which I was able to push hard. I disagree with the comfort aspect, the seats were very stiff, and the radio pissed me right off, a 2008 SLR with a radio from an old C-class and cd changer in the trunk was irritating. If it wasnt for the looks and sheer power of that car, it would be a complete waste. I've never been in a ZR1 but can already say I would take that in a heartbea

I love ZR1's effortless acceleration and i always loved the skylines for their engineering brilliance. The fact that they have what you need to drive on a daily basis and to smoke a fucking Ferrari or a Lamborghini which cost 4 or 5 times more.

Only reason these two cars are compared is because they cost far less than most other cars with equal performance. The ZR-1 and GT-R are NOT in the same price range. Bang for buck: GT-R>ZR-1>other cars. Only way to know which one you *like* better is to drive them. The rivalry is beyond stupid since this is all bench racing. Let's not even discuss the V-Spec, since I doubt it's performance is worth freaking more than double the price.
stupid the corvette timer started a second later and ended earlier the corvette was more like a 7:28.4..and this is the top line ZR1 to a base GTR which cost $40,000 less then ZR1 ...take the top GTR the Vspec or Nismo which is around same cost as ZR1 and it will smoke this vette.

@retrojaxed2 Launch control is only for "off the line" doesn't matter what you do next. I can use Launch control in a track race to get ahead of the other competitors. When people say the GTR wasn't made for straight line it kinda makes me laugh. The GTR is capable of hitting just over 190MHP and a car achieving them speeds defiantly means the engineers took top speed and acceleration into account.

it has launch control because thats what modern performance cars have. Along with alot of other tech like dual clutch, paddleshift, millisecond gearing without loss of power, 4 wheel drive and light weight materials.
However these Nurburgring lap times are media stunts at best. The cars they use here are wildly modified and does not in any way represent the capabilities of showroom equivalents.

This video says it all. The KING is still more superior. The ZR1 is the best rear wheel car on earth. I think it did unbelievable against an awd car on this track. Just imagine what it would be like if chevy made it all wheel drive. Chevy built a awesome car that looks great,goes,great,and even does very well on the track as well. I'd simply buy it just because of those reasons over the GTR. GTR is a great car as well but doesn't have that exotic look to it like the corvette.

2012 GT-R lapped the Ring in 7 minutes 24 seconds in the wet. Sport Auto confirms it is a fast car by going 4 seconds faster than the ZR1 in their independent test of the Ring under similar testing conditions.

The GTR for 90K with 485hp is bait on the street. I was driving a 10 second Mustang GT on 2000 that was running on pump gas. Muscle Mutangs and Fast Fords were kind enough to do an article on me and the car on 04/02 and my car was also on the cover. The 2012 Z06 posted a 7:22:68. So, it looks like the GT-R needs to worry about fending off little brother before going after the ZR1. Don't get me wrong, the GT-R is an amazing car, but facts are facts, and they are there in black and white on the list of Nürburgring lap times.

@rynoss21 The ZR1 and Z06 cheat at the ring. They use super slicks which are an option buy for owners track days. The GTR uses road legal showroom tyres. The 2012 GTR`s Top Gear lap time where slicks are banned is 1min 17.4. The ZR1 time is 1min 20.4 ( a massive 17 places down from the GTR ) The Z06 time is 1min 22.4 ( an enormous 27 places below the Nissan. With all 3 cars on road legal tyres, the 2012 GTR absolutely slaughters both Vettes. Yes, facts is facts sunshine. You are now enlightened

ZR1, with PTM on or off, has better skidpad G, accel, and top speed. The only place the GTR might have an edge is 0-60, but how often does someone need launch control in a race? ZR1 is MUCH faster 0-300k, and handles better than the GTR.... no contest.

Gotcha, yeah FWD is front, RWD you know, all wheel comes in different forms, 4WD and AWD, 4WD is 2 shaft power and can have a separate transfer case with it's own gear that allows for lower speed with more torque for mud/ice/etc. AWD can have up to 3 differentials (front center rear), the more advanced systems like Subaru's Symmetrical AWD system can transfer any amount of total power to any individual wheel using differentials and clutch packs. btw ZR1 beats GTR in all except 0-60

The fact that the zr1 driver has a power house to deal with that is a challenging car to drive and bang gears around corners at the same time tells me the zr1 is a much faster car. That gtr driver saves so much time with that twin clutch tranny, all he has to do is focus on gas and brake.

Awesome research TheMisterytour. GM says that the Michellins are not slicks but tyres installed on production ZR1. If the tyres and road conditions are as you state the GTR should be able to take 15+ seconds off it's time using equal tyres and road conditions. I will be expecting times of 7:10 or less in the future for the GTR (not really for I don't think tyres and road conditions could of been that different as your research states). 7:10 is too fast for a production car & legal tyres :-0.

both were conducted by the manufacturers at different times and neither were independantly witnessed or homologated to the point were this would be called a fair race its simply testing
but if you look and or research it properly in the ring records the vette was on a dry day on super slicks (cut slicks) the best possible conditions
whereas the gtr was on a semi wet day on performance tyres
does not mean much but its the facts and it was never meant to be a race between them

If you go to the Chevy site or to Top Gear you would realize that the Vette is using Michelin sport cup tires not racing tires. The track is dry in both cases. The latest test run the Vette did 7:19 (same driver) At the Top Gear site the Vette does better than the Ferrari Enzo. Mr. Mero is also not a professional driver though he is a very good driver. Both cars are great and the GTR cost less and has an awesome tranny. If you got the money both are great cars to own.

@DDFergy1 my point exactly with regards to the cars. but i was looking at the ring records and it states the conditions and equipment the cars were using among other details for loads of cars and the zr was running what is essentially road going slicks on a dry day. and the gtr was on a semi wet day on sport tyres it comes out the factory with. details are independent of either manufacturer. and if you look at the road in the gtr vid you see how much extra glare on the track so it makes sense

To blow holes in the stupid comments related to 638 hp vs 485. here are some facts to consier. The GTR beat the times of this list of cars that all make over 600 hp: Carrera GT - 604 hp, Koenigsegg CCR/CCX - 795 hp, Ruf RT12 - 641 hp, LP640 - 632 hp, SLR- 617 hp, and there are a host of others that it beat that have almost 100 hp more.
So obviously it is not about PEAK hp so lets not pretend it is.

The uploaders said they synced both videos at the pit exit if you watch the land marks you will see the ZR1 exits the final turn before the GTR by a few seconds ZR1in front. This video means nothing the 2012 ZR1 has ran a lap of 7:19 which makes it the second fastest mass production car one second behind the Porsche GT2 RS a twelve seconds ahead of the GTR.

Great vid!!! Zr1 is a truly amazing car! I work for Mercedes and have been fortunate enough to drive two SLR's, one of which I was able to push hard. I disagree with the comfort aspect, the seats were very stiff, and the radio pissed me right off, a 2008 SLR with a radio from an old C-class and cd changer in the trunk was irritating. If it wasnt for the looks and sheer power of that car, it would be a complete waste. I've never been in a ZR1 but can already say I would take that in a heartbea

Nice to see the ZR1 having its time of glory at the ring. But people should never forget, the GTR is the real king of the tracks.
I love ZR1's effortless acceleration and i always loved the skylines for their engineering brilliance. The fact that they have what you need to drive on a daily basis and to smoke a fucking Ferrari or a Lamborghini which cost 4 or 5 times more.

Only reason these two cars are compared is because they cost far less than most other cars with equal performance. The ZR-1 and GT-R are NOT in the same price range. Bang for buck: GT-R>ZR-1>other cars. Only way to know which one you *like* better is to drive them. The rivalry is beyond stupid since this is all bench racing. Let's not even discuss the V-Spec, since I doubt it's performance is worth freaking more than double the price.

fuck me...dont some people realise 4 wheel drive around the bends will manage better and will be quicker.straight line tho the zr1 would muller the gt to bitz...

@retrojaxed2 at the same time though chevy made the zr1 (unlike the zo6) to handle insane in the corners and be a track car.. and even creates more lat g than the gtr so technically has more grip... but the gtr was never intended for a straight line... so you cant make that comparison

@retrojaxed2 very very true.. good point... lol well case closed... they're both mean to be all around great cars and the corvette comes up on top... since the corvette is a lil more performance based though i think id still rather have the gtr just with the extra space and what not plus it doesnt have those plastics and what not.. but ur absolutely right.. performance based the corvette comes up.. good point

@retrojaxed2 Launch control is only for "off the line" doesn't matter what you do next. I can use Launch control in a track race to get ahead of the other competitors. When people say the GTR wasn't made for straight line it kinda makes me laugh. The GTR is capable of hitting just over 190MHP and a car achieving them speeds defiantly means the engineers took top speed and acceleration into account.
Respect to both. ZR1 shocking the world with the lap time. GTR is just a beast, nothing to say.

it has launch control because thats what modern performance cars have. Along with alot of other tech like dual clutch, paddleshift, millisecond gearing without loss of power, 4 wheel drive and light weight materials.
However these Nurburgring lap times are media stunts at best. The cars they use here are wildly modified and does not in any way represent the capabilities of showroom equivalents.

@retrojaxed2 It's LAUNCH control, you have to launch a car no matter what, it don't matter if you are on a drag strip or a tight test track. If it was called straight line control, it'd be a different argument.

That gtr driver was doing a lot of sawing. While it looked like the ZR1 was on a Sunday drive. Plus the GTR was situp with paddle shifter while ZR1 was not.

GT-R has better handling, faster in corners, and better acceleration (from start).
ZR1 has better top speed and acceleration.
remember, Turbo cars at low RPM are slow.

@omar53333 Dude low speed turns != low RPM, thats why we have gears. And you can see everyones tach no one drops below 4000 rpm at any time, unless they aren't in the throttle and they are about to downshift... Pay attention.

Sport Auto ought to be more believable than manufacturers since they don't have a dog in the race, and they've consistently found the GT-R to be as fast or faster on the Ring.

Well hate to break it to yah GTR fans, but the 2011 Porsche GT2 rs just slaughtered everyones time at the Nurburgring. 7minutes 18seconds. That's a new yard stick now.

This video says it all. The KING is still more superior. The ZR1 is the best rear wheel car on earth. I think it did unbelievable against an awd car on this track. Just imagine what it would be like if chevy made it all wheel drive. Chevy built a awesome car that looks great,goes,great,and even does very well on the track as well. I'd simply buy it just because of those reasons over the GTR. GTR is a great car as well but doesn't have that exotic look to it like the corvette.

This video doesn't say that much. It is almost 2011, the year we get the 2012 GT-R in the States.
2012 GT-R lapped the Ring in 7 minutes 24 seconds in the wet. Sport Auto confirms it is a fast car by going 4 seconds faster than the ZR1 in their independent test of the Ring under similar testing conditions.

The GTR for 90K with 485hp is bait on the street. I was driving a 10 second Mustang GT on 2000 that was running on pump gas. Muscle Mutangs and Fast Fords were kind enough to do an article on me and the car on 04/02 and my car was also on the cover. So while many of you are living through the accomplishments of others and dreaming, there are those of us actually accomplishing goals. Your assessment of the ZR1 is extremely narrowly focused and lack of knowledge about it offensive.

We're not talking street racing here. This is the Ring. Even other tracks are a better comparison than stoplight drag racing, which is stupid anyhow.

There's no way I'd consider a Corvette for anything other than track use, because as a street car for $110,000, it just doesn't rate.
