  • His Kia is somewhat like that of a mountain lion or leopard .

  • Is that Mirko Saffiotti?

  • very nice indeed , very nice kata and speed wise nicely done

  • This is probly the BEST kanku sho i've ever seen!!!

  • @martialarts18 I completely agree! it's very well done! (even though during the second "jump" there's a kick missing)

  • @martialarts18 NOOOOO WATCH MICHAEL MILON KANKUSHO IN THE YEAR 2000!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Parabêns, excelente Kata.....Catanduva/SP-Basil

  • hey, this kata is awesome, i learn my kata's of utube and then go to class and get corrections and i decided to learn of you cause your kata is amazing!!! So fast and precise and PERFECT!!!! and i dont care much about my individual styles way of doing that kata, because i saw some differences and thought your styles way was much better!!! keep it up, by the way whats your name so i can look up other kata you've done? :)

  • @natalie0adams i dont know if its the way you do it or if the technique is actually better than other styles, but you are an inspiration!!!

  • It's just too fast. Would be so much betterif he paced it better...some zanshin and kime.

  • who is the embusen ???

  • doing the kata this way is killing karate, Im not saying he is not a good karateka but this sport karate is not real karate. Look at Nakazato sensei of shorinkan thats is real karate.

  • @xlovexcz it'is not mistakes it's an other way to do the kata

  • well, I hope he won. wish I could move half as fast...

  • love it again !

  • This is my favourite Kata... but I dont like how he performs it.... This is kanku sho id doesnt have to be this fast.... like Jion or Enpi etc.... and there are some mistakes...

  • Man this guys quick as hell! < ive been doing karate for ten years at Least,, and i gotta say that man has got some serious speed!

  • it's like luca valdesi-karate... extremely fast, but no kime, no fighting spririt, bad timing and a puberty-kiai from the throat.

  • The power this guy has is incredible and its shown in the kata, but he needs to work on the katas timing, the kata needs slow parts and parts under tension to flow as it should, a good performance though

  • omg

i wish i could do this kata so fast

  • @AliceTeB3shte you would rather not....

  • From my view the Kata is performed very quick and 'snappy', not sure if this is correct depending on how is was taught. I was taught to make everything count in Shotokan, i.e. he slaps his feet on the ground when punching stepping forward, I used to do the same thing when I first started because I thought it sounded powerful and impressive, I was corrected pretty quickly. I was taught to use my body when punching by sinking my weight into the punch. He got a good reaction though? more focus?

  • Hurry, hurry, lose kime.... Slow down a little and it would look like an actual fight.

  • looks like he studied Junior Lefevre videos or has been trained by him. But he's not as fast of crisp as Junior.

  • Strong, clean, well focused Kata. Thank You for sharing Sensei

  • Strong, clean well focused Kata. Thank you for sharing Sensei.

  • He let his heal come up when stepping backward in zenkutsudachi right at the end... that's the sort of thing you normally drill out of people by 6th kyu.

  • @Winterdenni Well spotted! I was taught not to 'slap' my feet when performing tecnique as you don't get your body weight 'sinking' into the movement. M.Kawasoe when performing kata, looks very slow in comparison but you can see the power and body weight being moved in every single technique! He good reaction though here? I've competed ion open style Karate before, the judges encouraged Seidokan to rush through their Kata and were not impressed with with Shotokan kata? Is competition kata diff?

  • @alangti21 depends on the competition. Some tournaments will want to see real traditional budo kata, others will want things as fast as possible.

I always just try to do the best kata I can, & if it pleases the judges, so be it.

  • I guess this is how they think it is supposed to be done in Europe.

  • I think some points were lost because the starting point and ending point were not in the same place for the kata. But i personally thought the kata looked good with the kihon so nice job. It takes courage to get up and display this for people to see.

  • bravissimo

  • Very good. Excellent technique

  • Yup, too rushed. To the point that he's lost his kime, and was concentrating more on speed rather than on the 'stress points' of the kata. Probably a good 'modern' interpretation, if at all, but veering from the traditional view. Very athletic player though, very good basics too.

  • I agree with you. However what frustrates me most is that people refuse to move on. Why is this too rushed? Too rushed for the traditional understanding of the kata when introduced 50 years ago, however, as you said - for 2010, this is a fantastic effort. I think kata evolves and to be a good martial artist, we must too.

  • 1 word rushed

  • Stiff, poor timing, lacks knowledge of bunkai, great athlete.

  • great performance.best kata in shotokan.

  • he thought he was making it cool with the long pauses and loud kiais but he really didn't landing good stances and kept to stiff. i give him a 3/5

  • Good Kata Performance, howver his Kiai tends to be on the more screaming side!

  • Too stiff!!!

  • Very good!!!!

  • it's like a sequence of individual speed moves, rather than an overall flow and strength of a kata.. no kime

  • @FurtherRecords I would like to perform this kata exactly like he does,

the "flow" should not be throughout all the kata, but through that couple of techniques that you perform in full power and speed; and then release your muscles and prepare for the next couple, you need to breathe inbetween.

remember that karate aims at defeating an opponent with two or three techniques, (and they must be fast) if you link all of them you're not able to use your maximum strength for each one.

  • @FurtherRecords You cant do better, you know that, dont you..

  • I am doing this for my Neidan, found this version very funny. Like co

Mment before, no power/substance, boy isn't he bouncy, LOL.

  • All style - no substance.

This is not kata - it is external to impress judges

  • Right! The problem is: This imresses judges. So, why do kata competitions? Watch Kanazawa´s vids and train according to your own conditions.

  • No. The problem is judges who allow this to impress them. If judges were told to judge kata not be wowed by flashy substance-less karate - people would stop performing this awful imitation of kata.

  • very nicely executed, i am working on this kata at present. I want to improve the amount of air i get on the 2nd jump. any tips?

  • brilliant kata good flow cheers

  • The kata was well executed good rhythm, speed, what I would suggest is to have the kata flow more, but other then that excellent cheers

  • hey aside from that tho it was a great kata, i like the speed especially

  • Funny...AAAAAAAAAA!

  • it actually is funny. and ive heard worse at my tournaments lmao. i just stick to kiai so i dont sound like i just stepped on a tac.

  • mUIT BOM SEU KIAI É SHOW..PARABÉNS...

    PS: BRAZIL

  • mazin kata !

  • pretty nice..i consider this

  • too fast...and ugly kiai

  • fast!! but little power

  • He seems to have changed the spin toward the end to a jump.

  • He does this kata too fast!

  • all you muppets giving negative feedback about this text book perfect kata, put a video of yourselves doing the same kata on here so we can see how it should be done.... or not!

  • ben210907

Can you make an omelet? I cannot make a good omelet, however I assure you I can judge a good one from a bad one.

  • nice speed, but he jumps all the time...

  • The techniques are supposed to be performed using Yori - Ashi (sliding feet), NOT by jumping from one position to another !

  • Those "cracking sounds" are merely the soles of his feet slapping against the floor !

  • wow - very energetic...

  • PERFECT

  • He almost too crisp, there is no flow between techniques. It's as if he's going from one finishing pose to the next, but missing the transitional phases of the technique. The motion is very small too, not much amplitude except the kicks, which are nicely done. He's very fast, obviously trains very hard. Go back and look at the old guys like Osaka and

Tanaka and you see the difference.

  • Tournament-style performance. With age and practice, I hope he grows to understand the true depth of this kata as well as the others.

  • Wow thats Powerful... Amazing

See Its All About Speed lol Good Job Man Your hard Work Paid Off...

I Starting To Learn Kanku Sho But The Jumping In The Air And Landing Then Standing Up For Me Its Hard Unless Ur Quick With Ur Feet Like This Guy.

  • where and when was this was it a proper championship what federation ?

  • troppo "a scatti"...tecniche troppo veloci e non finite. techniques too fast, not finished.

  • very very well!!!!

    oss

  • I loved it. Good technique. Finished. Eye direction and stance mostly spot on. Excellent.

    CEASAR

  • He's the Brown Belt now?

  • fortissimo...bravo...!

  • The static positions looks very good.

But the rythm and the intermediate movements, that's another problem.

It looks like a robocop fight, this is ridiculous.

And this kiai ... Please, somebody help him, this guy must suffer real hard !

Kiai doesn't mean that you have to lose your lungs each time.

  • The point is not use your diaphram in a kiai, you're supposed to use your abdominal muscles to force the air out of your lungs. This guy is screaming, not making a kiai. Also, his front knee in back stance is too far forward, his reverse open hand block is way too slow, and his jump was low and he didn't complete the spin properly. Even with these rather large mistakes he has really good form and sticks his techniques.

  • Sharp, crisp techniques. Good speed and stances. Maybe slow down the pace a few parts as it seems a bit rushed for my taste.

  • Why is it that kata have to to be so rushed?!? The stances are good, but a lot of the technique lacks groundedness and kimai. A shame.

  • very nice kata, clean techniques and consistant throughout the kata......you changed my mind about not liking that kata cause you did it so well

  • Nice kata! This other dude sounds like all he does is read MMA magazines and and watch it on TV and then critisize traditional martial arts. He's talking out his ass. any shotokan practitioner knows the friggin bunkai to that move. Sure it would be a fucking submission if all you knew how to do was grapple lol. Man sorry had to vent on these douche bags leaving comments like that on traditional karate videos. Keep up the training dude

  • Fresh black belt huh..? haha Nice!! But whats up w ur wrist grab move before ur kick? That's not a straight/strike , The bunkai is a wrist grab submission none the less.. Good job though..

  • Very nice moves.
