You people making snied comments should shut up and put your own playing on Youtube. This child has done wonderfully, especially considering all the octaves and quick scales etc in this piece.
Holy shoot! I did this for my grade 10 at about 18 or 19 years of age, and not a lot faster. Very difficult for anyone younger I'm sure, but this student is just - wow.
Even though that Beethoven's music is commonly quite heavy and exciting, this piece is quite lively and light, sorta like Mozart. Many people can play, but not feel the music.
Pay attention to this, and you'll be a great piano player
i'm sorry but... this isn't the feeling for beethoven, this little boy is just bang-ing around with this song, and i'm a beethoven lover :| i did a distinction for my Grade 8 2 years ago, currently a diploma student, but i personally think that he won't be able to pass the diploma so soon because he isn't mature enough yet.
He is able to manage the notes. Otherwise the playing lacks the finesse of a more mature interpretation. Much of the phrasings have been left out. But he did
good job at having learnt the piece at an amatuer level. Nevetheless, good for a 11 year old. Must watch the tempo towards the last 30 or so bars.
The crushed notes should be shorter and faster including the tempo. Should emphasize a lot more on the tempo, stacatto's and the slurs. Much more practice is needed.
The touch is amazing for an 11-year old. Most children can't express a piece this well even when it's only half as difficult.

11 Yrs old, smaller hands than adults and can play grade 8, that is an achievement in my opinion.

This is not remarkable at all. My brother played the Beethoven Emperor piano concerto in a public concert at the age of 11.

He didn't 'master' the piece.

If you pass with merit, I think the examiner must have some problems with him/her..
grandpiano2007 4 months ago 2
I agree with TheChubbo55.
What does it mean by Merit? It definitely not deserve to get merit!!!
Quite a lot wrong notes...my advice is: please, practice more and work harder..
grandpiano2007 4 months ago
too slow. Pay attention to the short ornaments. Beethoven was a rather exciting composer.

actually i think age doesn't really matter...

becoming faster and faster..... a big difference in speed of the beginning and the end.

I'll be honest. That does not deserve merit at grade 8, not even a pass... :/

I'm sorry, no offense but how is this a merit? =\
