  • Tastes like burning.

  • WAHAHAHA GENIOUS!

  • weakest coffee ever, was that about 5 grains in each cup!!!!!!

put about one and a half teaspoons in each cup......and just

    use a kettle........lasers are so 1990's

  • I hope it burnt the guys coffee that puts half a cup of creamer in his...

  • and the next morning they all had tumors...

  • ...Is that how you waste DoE's funding? lol

  • This is s-o-o-o-o low-tech. Why not use a cocentrated gamma-ray burst, through an RF-generated aperture? All you need is a clystron, a gamma-ray source (possiblly the large Hadron collider at CERN?) and.....

Wait, wait, wait.... we have a stove!

  • so this is where all the research funding went :P

  • I've had it with Starbucks, I'm home only thanks to coffeeloverstipsandtricks (.) com

  • Where can I buy one of these things?

  • very slow

  • @paisacool Jesus Christ kid - you gotta align the laser properly or else you got a friggin hole through the machine. very slow my ass. I don't see you making an attempt to go any faster.

  • Mmmmm... Radioactive caffeine.

  • Is it available at Starbucks? They must have this one...

  • wow like 12 seconds per cup

  • レーザーでやるというのがみそなんだろうな。

    あのレーザーに指を一瞬触れさせてみたいという衝動に駆られる

  • ching chong chang

  • これじゃ、カップ4つまとめてレンジでチン♪ した方が早いよな

  • well i guess this is the most expensive coffee-machine in the world.

  • does that sign say 2.5kw nd:yag laser!!! thats remarkably powerfull.you could freqency double that to 532nm green

it would be like 1300 watts tho.damn i cant get over that, and its continuous wave too...simply remarkable indeed.

  • Amazing !!!

You can use that to make Noodles (^__^)

  • It heats up faster because a laser is more intense. Microwave has to comply with safety regulation and is thus toned down. The radiation produced by this laser is probably very cancerous.

    Simply put,

Laser heats up the coffee by bombarding the water molecules with photons.

Microwave just makes the water molecules resonate.

  • Comment removed

  • People should have to prove that they know what they are talking about before they can comment.

  • @wahkao1990 I'm not so sure it's the type of radiation that causes cancer. Microwaves don't cause cancer either. You just don't want to put your hand in them because they'll cook you in a very painful way.

  • Check this. There's a secret aerosol program going on worldwide causing thick overcast every day! It's chemicals. I filmed it myself (my chan). Search for "chemtrails", "Dont talk about the weather", "Endgame HQ". We need to wake up and wake others to stop this!

  • wow this is slow.

  • So this is what my hard earned tax payers money is being wasted on.

  • Wasted???

  • I could use this to drive my rice cooker

  • Uhh. I think the microwave is actually faster than that.

But if you got it to make coffee really hot in under 10 seconds, then it'd be worth it.

Need to work on the invention a bit.

  • a laser is always worth it

  • 1:39-1:59 is only 20 seconds. My microwaved coffee usually takes over a minute to heat up.

  • Laser coffee. LASER coffee. Awesomeness is always worth three times its weight in efficiency.

  • ya... im gunna stick with a microwave.. hah hah...ya ha

  • now there's a big benefit in working in engineering!

  • Lol

  • The apprentice at the Laser development center was fed up with being told to make coffee amidst all the cool lasers he wasn't being trained to use. So he thought he'd train himself on the job, whilst simultaneously carrying out the coffee orders - Multitasking.

  • OUTSTANDING! That is a SERIOUS laser... Nothing like using a half million dollar piece of lab equipment to make coffee :D

  • that's fucking badass!

    :D

  • Holy crap that's a powerful laser.

  • Malheureusement, il reste encore du café instantané

  • Hardly 'instant coffee'

  • lol, they are going to get cancer tonight!! JK.. Interesting, its good that people are getting better at using lasers.. almost like we are moving into a futuristic era... its fun.!

  • Well as far as the radioactivity goes laser beams (as with any other kind of light) are simply photons on a specific frequency. However gamma rays (also a form of light) are a form of EM radiation.

  • my 2 favourite things- coffee and engineering- together at last. and did that idiot say that lasers are radioactive?! LOL

  • See...Ill just use the kettle

  • at the same speed, he could have lobbed them all in the microwave on Powerlevel 9..... just not as fun

  • yeah, its just a different type of electromagnetic radiation.... what really would be cool is using decaying uranium to warm coffee.. id drink it..

  • lol yeah, but I guess in his defense, he said "innovative" not "fast"

    :D

  • what is that 5watt 750mw

  • I wish I had a laser like that...*thinks evil thoughts*

  • Is that dangerous?

  • not to consume. you put your hand underneith that and it is XD.

  • You morons. Lasers don't make substances radioactive, NOR do they have create residual radiation in or around where they are focused! A laser is simply a beam of focused LIGHT. Light is just a type of electromagnetic radiation. Duh. Cool video though!

  • yeah...

i still prefer coffee machines thou (:

  • well either way even if it is cancer coffee which i doubt. yay coffee! and if its cancer coffee. Yay cancer coffee! ohh i see theres Cancer tea too! yummy

  • NOT radioactive... does the sun make you radioactive? A laser is just LIGHT. Lol.

  • ooooooooor u could boit a kettle

  • Kettle? That's just crazy enough to work.

  • its canser coffie

  • Dude, you're not gonna get cancer from blue light. Because that's what that laser is: coherent, focussed, high-power blue light.

  • daaa!!! blue light = ultra violet cancerous rays hav u never worked at a dental surgery before??? pffffttttt

  • When you drink the coffee, the laser isn't there. Retard.

And most people haven't worked at a dental surgery. Retard.

  • Good you told him off dude, Besides. They don't use lasers in dental surgery. They use x-ray. And please if any one else reads this and talks about cancer... just think about it as a really strong, focused flashlight.

  • DAMM sorry sorry THAT was so wrong

    Dude.....

no is that right cause the opposite is anything but cool sooooo the comment below this one is positive rigth

now i know nothing other but cool

is that one right plz help me

  • dude.....nothing but cool

  • Blue cancer coffee. It's not even real... it's INSTANT! (background applause)

  • the best part of waking up..

  • Lol I have that.

  • its a wiast of time kinda...... But that is the coolest way to make coffee i have ever seen. i want to do that! (:

  • yah thats called cancer right there

  • LOL ^.^

  • Ok...

Last time I checked, laser doesn't cause cancer, in fact, it is used to treat cancer.

  • You're right, but it won't stop retards from trying to stake claim that they're intelligent.

  • You are real life MacGyver ;D

  • are you kidding me? microwave only takes a few seconds. these equipment cost thousands. microwave cost 50 dollars.

  • ur a dumbass

  • I've found that the most entertaining place to screw off is in the lab. This video just proves that fact further.

Honestly, some experiments take forever to run or prep, what else are you supposed to do?

  • Last guy spilled his java.

  • that's cool and all but(and don't laugh cuz i don't know)

is there any kind of radiation?

i mean i knoe there's is radiation everywhere, but i mean enough to mess u up a bit

but i guess not since they have probably been doing it for a while

  • Nope, perfectly safe f16pilot92. Lasers are concentrated beams of light, and in no way require radiation. Just don't point the laser at yourself and you're perfectly fine! :)

  • lol

    thanks

being a laser scientist isn't really my forte

  • someone had some extra time on his hands to come up with this! ;) Interesting...

  • So if this is a Nd laser, with a HeNe pointer beam, why does it appear to be making copious quantities of blue or blue-green light? Is there an argon involved in this story?

  • keep that away from my butt

  • so interesting ! 60wlaser is powerful !

  • 60 watt laser

  • i think ill keep my coffee maker for now lol

i wait for the price to come down on lasers and besides instant coffee has no flavor lol

  • if they attached that frikin laser beam to a sharks head that instant coffee would taste oh so good!

  • i like to cut my sandwiches with a chainsaw

  • Hey good idea!I might try it, I've been cutting mine with an axe but my wife has been complaining about the marks on the kitchen bench

  • me too xD

  • Actually, this is how they always make their instant coffee... Microwaves are just sooo last year. ::lol:: (j/k)

  • lol

    *you have obtained 65,000,000mW laser!*

now go burn down some buildings =] i love lasers so much

  • now do the cappucino and i'll be impressed

  • overkill much?!?

  • so then you just over heat them a bit then?

  • it's kinda skethcy at the end with the busted 'window' fixed with masking tape.....

    ....look safe

  • What's the cost of THAT cup of coffee....

  • coffee for the 21st century

  • all that research and technology and you just make coffe? what a waste

  • No no! Its' progress!

  • yeah you never know laser coffee makers might be the next big thing in household appliances

  • OMFG, that's huge! Looks very nice:)) I wanted to make some cofee with a aluminium cup, on my Barton 2500+, overcloacked:-SS An Intel at 200Mhz (I had some pieces for my museum)resisted at 93 degrees Celsius long time>:)

  • Who the hell drinks instant coffee.

  • Time to buy more coffe!

  • what one why to make coffee

  • isn't that coffee radiactive?

  • Laser radiation is a term for light, It's not actual radation....

  • ?

isn't really light a term for electromagnetic radiation?

  • and... irradiated does not mean radioactive!

  • I believe, But that seems to be a C02 Laser (Inferred) Which is non ionizing so there's nothing to worry about....

  • Yes. And delicious too.

    Want a biscuit with that?

  • sry i perfer sprinkeled doughnuts

  • Problem: Instant coffee doesn't taste very good.

Unless you can use regular coffee grounds? Then this would be very useful...Man, can you imagine how convenient making coffee would be? And this can be mathematically calculated, so getting the cup to just the right temperature for drinking would be easy.

  • your laser is shoddy.

  • you try makeing one then!

  • lazor coffee!!! its the way of the future people...

  • Wow!

  • IMA FIRIN MAH LAZOR!!!! *coffe = made*

  • next-laser espresso maker.nice:j

  • transition from electric age to laser age..

  • laserworld 400pro RGB, by LG dj. questo è un laser!

  • about a dozen He Ne's(melles griot and uniphase),a tripled YAG(home brew),tripled YLF(home brew),CO2(synrad),mode locked tripled ylf to yag picosecond(i can't say here),some argon ion's(uniphase),dye laser (home brew) and a coupled of small toys(liquor store pointers!).i used to use the multiline gas stuff for light shows too lgdj80,i kinda miss doing them.

  • no thanks. i like my microwave better. xD

  • Pay 50,000 to makeinstant coffee in 15 seconds? No thank you.

  • i dont think i would drink this 0_o

  • Why? It's not toxic.

  • The most obvious answer - he doesn't like instant coffee (and yes, who actually likes that stuff anyway?).

  • So, how much would one of those coffee makers cost?

  • ehm... ND:YAG... for more precision.

  • hahah!

    nice.

  • is that a real laser that you can cut metal with and and goes through your freakin body????

  • It first burns, then when your skin turns black, the carbon will absorb even more. Eventually the carbon turns white hot and goes to CO or CO2. Only the trace minerals will be left. In short, it doesn't really "cut". It just burns a tiny hole really, really well.

  • Label shows it as a 1363 nm, 2.5 KW CW YAG laser. It's just a really, really, intense IR light source. Makes for a good parlor trick - until you have to explain to the professor why his $50,000 laser head was cracked (Not really sure about the total cost). Just be sure you hid the hot dogs and the smell is gone when he comes down to the lab :)

  • Sorry for the multiple posts - connection is slow today.

  • The label shows what looks to be a 1364 nm 2.5 KW CW light (YAG). It's just a really, really, intense IR beam. Good parlor trick. Not good when you have to explain to a professor why his $50,000 laser head (not really sure the total cost) was cracked. Hope the coffee smell is gone :)

  • You've been to IKEA I see.

  • burn in hell. lol

  • hahaha..cr3ativity thinks all radiation has to be nuclear...ahaha...moron

  • I've got no problems at all in drinking it. Its just heat generated by light. Same as if you left a glass of water in the sun.

  • Yes. Laser LIGHT radiation. it is harmless.

  • I wouldn't suggest staring at the light for 7 seconds, or your sight and depth perception will deteriorate.

  • sorry, i guess i should have stated, "Harmless within the bounds of common sense"

  • HAHAHAHAHA. You'd be surprised how many people don't know it only takes 7 seconds to ruin your sight and depth perception.

  • your a fucktard. of a laser of this power it would fry your retina pretty much instantly. with a 100mw green laser if you look at it for less than 5 seconds you risk BAD permanent damage. stop quoting shit you read on some laser fanboy site.

  • Call me a fucktard, nice. What else you got "Ratface?"

  • i have some cr3ativity. or at least i try to make people think i do. what im actually doing is repeating other peoples words like the lemming i truly am.

  • yeah, this sure is getting old. I'm just going to leave it to you, have fun arguing to yourself :D

  • predictable

  • oh ye... if u get stabed in one eye... for sure xD

  • What does getting stabbed in one eye have to do with what I posted?

  • I think it would take you less then a second to permanently loose total vision when you look in this beam....

To boil water at this speed, the ammount of energy transmitted by the beam is at least a few kilowatts if it boils +/-150ml of water in less then 20 seconds...your retina wouldn't last a second...

  • You didn't quite post a comment

    I WIN :D

  • i thought you were going to leave it to me..? yawn

  • im gonna be picky, is it light or is it infra red that heats that up, their both next to eachother in the electromagnetic spectrum so maybe they come together. I could be wrong.

  • Both can heat up objects, infrared is just the most effecient in doing so....

  • That'll be $365.22 please!

  • lol

  • Alright, but RADIATION? When they place their hands in that laser boundary, they consume the radiation produced when boiling the water. Over time, you will see hair falling out and it isn't a good sign.

  • agreed.

  • You must be kidding. I hope so, because if not, dude, you need to do a bit more reading!

  • I doubt that...such radiation is only produced by röntgen of gamma rays, they're basically worthless if you intent to boil anything as their energy level is so high they wouldn't interact with the atom but

just pass them(well most of the time)

You wouldn't even be able to see the beam :P

This is just visible light, concentrated visible light, but visible light nonetheless. If you want to, you can even boil coffe with soundwaves ;)

  • There is that new kettle that boils in 3 seconds.

  • The title should have been 'this is what happens when engineers make coffee'!

  • It's LIGHT! You don't get "radiation shit" from light. Certainly nothing that would hurt you.

  • (visible) Light is also radiation (a) it just doesn't have ionizing properties as opposed to ultraviolet, röntgen and gammalight which do tend to create ionized(thus unstable)atoms which give off the 'hazardous radiation'

  • I love it, very awesome!

  • I can see how its "Instant"

  • stupid government

  • For THIS they were given a GOVERNMENT GRANT! I think my coleman stove is more portable

  • yeah...im not drinkin that even if im wicked tired and if im late for somthing i'ill get fired...still not drinkin that

  • why not?
