I had the Atari ST version of this game and I do not remember any such issue with saving. I think it was like any other game and that there were save slots too, 5 IIRC.
@Trusteft Correct. All the later ports of Starflight had the save function fixed. But the original PC version is what I'm playing, and its save functionality is terrible; thankfully I've got some scripts to help out.
You had a similar save system with other games, like Wasteland. I would say the price was well worth it to get these open world games. After all, whether Starflight, Wasteland or RPG's in general, they are now seen as the pinnacle of 8 bit and early DOS gaming.
madfingers72, yes, it is sinful to come back with more than 15% fuel, unless of course you have filled your hold with things that at least have an average value equal or greater than Chromium.
wow, thanks for the background on the game. I only ever had the Genesis version, and I don't remember a particularly good explanation of the background story besides some "captains logs" from another ship prior to your adventures.
Thanks! I played this in high school, but never finished it. It brings back memories. Hurry-up and meet some aliens, and shoot them...or befriend them, and steal their life force...
Nice review. I never played the original Starflight on Pc, I only played the Genesis version. What's your opinion on that game? Also this game must have some kind of record for canceled fan remakes.

@Prytanus And I, too! Tandy 1000 SX - loved the 16-color graphics modes and the 4-voice audio.

The backstory sounds exactly like Homeworld to me. I guess they must have gotten it from here.

I had forgotten what an awesome backstory this game had.

Starflight... Tandy 1000, '87, '88. You ARE me, dude. Except I loved mining. Call me greedy.
