  • i have a ford ranger 4.0l and i wanted to know if i should turbo it or supercharge it

  • so I have a 4.3 with a cam and pistons, I want to do this to it but its a 93. was there a kit for yours or is this custom/

  • Alright to clear things up. The 01 and before 4.0 produced 160 hp stock. The 01+ 4.0 produced 210 hp stock. Considering 160 HP is at the crank, with a total hp loss of 9% to the wheels hes making huge power since his is a 2001 and before. 210 at the wheels is 231 hp at the crank.

That means he gained 71 hp with just a supercharger on top. (on the 4.0s' a cold air intake is a waste of money, sorry)

  • @MicroOrginisum I want to clarify that none of the ranger that produces 210hp stock and seen, and clarify that it is not a 9% 20% are lost into one of 01 has 168whp and that's what e seen dyno graphs in the 01. however the gain in my tuck has been greatly enhanced with only install the supercharger and after tuning was 241whp. sorry but you keep your intake

  • @michaelrivera1966 Yes, the SOHC does. 210 hp, ford claims 207, but seeing as the identical in every way mustang SOHC produces 210 hp, i go with that.

  • @MicroOrginisum speaks with evidence rather than facts

  • @michaelrivera1966 i speak with both. I own a ranger and, i have multiple resources that tell me the 4.0 produces 207-210 hp.

  • @MicroOrginisum just words put video and graphics and then talk

  • @michaelrivera1966 read: 210hp this was only be the start to only install the supercharger after tuning a / f the new numbers are 241hp and this is a mustang dyno. on a dyno jet is around 260 to 270hp this engine only has 160hp from factory to worthwhile investment

  • @michaelrivera1966 What? just words? h t t p : / / w w w . therangerstation.c o m/tech_library/4_0_Page.html

    I know my shit.

  • @MicroOrginisum not seem to understand are the 207hp flywheel are not the wheel

  • @MicroOrginisum 2001 had the SOHC. 00 and before produced at most, 160 hp.

  • @kemorc The SOHC came in mid 2001.

  • Comment removed

  • @MicroOrginisum Check your facts. 4.0 OHV's last year in a ranger was 2000.

  • how early (RPM) are you getting the 330 ft lbs? I am trying to figure out what to swap in my BII for best low end torque.. also, how much boost are you pushing?

  • 210 at the wheels your probably putting 257 at the crank

  • The dyno must have been broke, I have a naturally aspirated 2003 ranger, and it puts out 200

  • @yournamehere832

I have not seen any ranger with 200 hp aspirate. liar!!

  • @michaelrivera1966 SOHC 4.0l do make over 200 hp when naterally aspirated 210 hp to be exact, so you must not have been running a lot of boost.

  • @rswany16 and not yet seen any 4.0l stock 2000 up whit dyno charts who are at least 190 whp

  • with the 210 hp break your ass to the 5.0l. gay muzak

  • 210hp????for all that money? you could've dropped a hot 5.0 in and had nearly double that number for the same price. gay muzak, too.

  • stock internals?

  • @mitch9521

    piston only

  • stupid question but.. does the supercharger go in place of the intake manifold?

  • @johnny99929992

    yes sir

  • @michaelrivera1966 no sir

  • @johnny99929992 No, but a kit should come with a manifold to match the supercharger.

  • bbk bro.

  • fuck chevys btw and bro what brand is he supercharger kit bc i wanna ge tone for my 4.0

  • It made 210? is it just the OHV 4.0 because i thought the SOHCs came with 210...and if so ive been lookin for a s/c for my OHV and couldnt find a single one or an intake manifold for that matter...any help?

  • so is this the same 4.0l v6 engine as in an 08 v6 mustang? cause i only heard of the x-charger supercharger for the v6

  • i love my 4.0 besides the timing chain that i no love so much

  • what year is the engine/truck, etc.?

  • @superzuki89

my '94 ranger 4.0 v6 is bad ass it will not step down from a challenge and your right i raced a s-10 with the 4.3 and left him behind. so i would have to agree with you

  • @superzuki89 Get your fuckin junk ass ranger on the street down here in Orlando and Ill be happy to mop the pavement with that piece of shit.

  • @NitrousPowrdSS so wait until you piece of crap pavement dragger backfires and kills your injectors again...? sounds like a good reliable truck to me. how is there a challenge there?

  • @superzuki89 Spoken like a typical ignorant ford drivin redneck. Everybody knows that if you use nitrous you are eventually gonna have a backfire. So again dipshit. Bring your piece of shit ranger to Orlando so I can take your lunch money. Till then. Put up or shut the fuck up.

  • @NitrousPowrdSS so let me get this right.... you want me to drive from maine to florida just to try and settle some dome ass rivalry between my ranger and you s10 that you started not me and you are tellin me to shutup about it...? dont see you offerin to come up here so you can "take my lunch money".... what are you 6?

  • @superzuki89 You are the one claiming to have a 4.0 ranger that will "outperform any 4.3 piece of trash that chevy puts out". So I called you out because you dont. Since Im the one that called you out its pretty much up to you to prove me wrong. So once again. Any time you're ready. Still waiting.

  • @NitrousPowrdSS - How bout you come to him if you're so confident in your ride? Otherwise STFU

  • 4.0 makes 210 stock

  • with my 4.0L the 5.0L remain dumb when I run with them and I run 5 trucks ahead. lol

  • @michaelrivera1966 seriously? But she isn't just blower tho right? other mods?

  • NICE TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a fan of superchargers cause they sound like pastic toy cars... but still very nice!! i would just stick to my 383 stroker and no Core upgrades like a super charger :/

  • Could have got a v8

  • @superzuki89 good luck with that, 4.3 has 250ft lbs tq 4.0 220ft lbs.tq your an idiot, 4.3 is a much better engine.

4.3>any v6 ford has ever made

  • @blazinloud GM could not make a motor to save there ass. I also have the 4.0L and it will kill the 4.3L junk GM trash.

  • @wentw1tj i guess its a shame the 4.3 has more hp and tq and gets better mileage......theres a TT 4.3L video on youtube making over 1000hp dumbass

  • thanks bro.

  • @michaelrivera1966 how much was that sc kit..do you know if they make it for the 3.0 V6? thanx

  • @SS350silverado

the only thing that is manufactured by whipple supercharger comunicate with them. good luck

  • Damn that is one fine ass truck!!!!

  • how much will it cost to supercharge a ranger?

  • @blazinloud the 4.0 has literally been rated as one of the most reliable and best engines of all time, so its clearly not junk...and from experience offroading with my 4.0 i would say its fucking amazing!

  • Ranger Overpower !

  • @blazinloud Opinions are like assholes. Everyone's got one, yours sure does stink!

  • @joedrummer2010 not nearly as much as ford lol

  • 210hp this was only be the start to only install the supercharger after tuning a / f the new numbers are 241hp and this is a mustang dyno. on a dyno jet is around 260 to 270hp this engine only has 160hp from factory to worthwhile investment.

  • @michaelrivera1966 Dude a 4.0 stock ranger has 209 off the line. Idk where u got ur stats but their jacked up.

  • @Hitman1490 its clearly the older body... guessing that he has the OHV... i put my ol 93 4.0 on the stand it it made ~140 to the wheels with 200k miles...and N/A

  • Congrats you successfully spent your years income and developed as much power as a base model honda odyssey.

  • @blazinloud but in small ranger?

  • at that point i would just swap a 5.0L in it. its not worth it for those numbers for that time and money 210 and 333 tourque is not enough just buy a f150 at that point not worth it imo but everyone has their own opinion and yea i know wat tourque is tard

  • For the old 4.0L pre-2001 model year, that was a good number. Now the 4.0L SOHC that came out in 2001 Ranger models, was stock 215hp/260 I believe. And a supercharged version could break 300hp tuned. But for the cost of a supercharger kit, you could dump in a 5.0L 302 with heads, intake, and cammed around 3 grand.

  • @Sirtorment1979 I have, and do regularly Smoke 5.0's and recently beat my Dads New f150 with the Eco-boost twin turbo motor...Mine is a off the lot, stock 05, 4.0 4x4 edge. I also smoked a new camaro last week. This is not a toy! it can and will get away from you!

  • is that the pushrod 4.0?

  • wtf i have 205 in my sohc stock wtf total waste of money/time/video/and everyone who has viewed this.

  • @galakanokiss that may be true. But you don't have 333Lb-ft Torque. Christ sakes, you must be a ricer to think that only horsepower matters.

  • i wanna get one for my explorer how much do they run

  • nice!! where did u get the supercharger at?

  • if thats a supercharged 4.0 with 210 hp i dont even want to know what my 4 liter is :(

  • @fifteenYear I believe the Pushrod 4.0 was rated around 155hp and around 235lb-ft

  • oh my jesus, beautiful

  • @blazinloud at 290,000 miles without any leaks or problems and still goin 95 on the freeway every mornin my dads 97 ranger 4.0 doesnt sound like junk to me

  • badass Love fords

  • @blazinloud I'd say no, the 4.0 Cologne V6 is damn near bulletproof and can take 20 pounds of boost with head stud and gasket upgrades.

  • nice set up. is that a M62? how did you find room under the hood? i couldn't seem to get S/C like that to fit under my Ranger's hood. so i went with T/C.

  • It still sounds hella sick!

  • @blazinloud from ford ? the jeeps straight six was ford engines

  • Only 210 hp with a supercharger?

  • @morsie

these were 210hp with the supercharger only after changing the piston and the cam and tuning the new number changed 260hp at pump this video is 2 years old.

  • @michaelrivera1966 Was this a pre 2001? In 2001 when they switch to OHC the 4.0 ran 210 hp and 240 torque stock. Any hood mods needed to fit the SC? I have an 03 with the 4.0 and have been condisdering this

  • @michaelrivera1966 - Have you thought about the Tom Morana stroker kit? At that point you'd be running a 4.3 just like the Chevies, but I think you'd be up around 320 HP. That would be like 365 at the crank, minimum.

  • @blazinloud is ur opinion? Jajaja is stupid

  • @michaelrivera1966 sure doesn't sound like "junk" to me, they have gone a long ways from the old 3.8's of the 80's! Nice Ranger btw.

  • automatic fail.

  • @iBEaSTEYY17

    jajajaja.

  • bad ass ranger..i want to somthing like tht to my ranger..can u give me some ideas for mine if u dont mind please..i have a 97 ford ranger thts all ready been tweeked..if u dont mind viewing my videos on here tht would be cool

  • is it safe to install a supercharge for an engine? Can the engine break?

  • @Alexpower3000 It depends on a lot of factors to be "safe" for an engine. A naturally aspirated motor from the factory(meaning non-turbo or supercharged) is most likely to have cast internals which are much weaker than forged internals. The compression ratio is also a lot higher in N/A engines which is not a good thing for forced induction. You can run a supercharge or turbocharge at lower boost levels on most N/A engines if you keep the boost below 6psi and have a really good tune(meaning $)

  • Hard on with wheels....fuck yea

  • I would of went the 5.0 route. For $3000 you could have a sweat sounding ranger with a N/A 300hp, 300ft lbs of torque v8 that would walk all over the supercharged 4.0L. Nice truck, but like most redheaded women its not my type.

  • @JayGeePee1 For $3k you wouldn't have a 300/300 5.0, I can tell you that first hand. Maybe for $4k you could, the block, intake, heads, cam and exhaust would net you 300/300 if you go cheap. But then you add in the cost of the swap and it gets pricey really fast. For $2k you can get the supercharge kit and a basic tune to get you started. Add another $1k for exhaust, headers and a dynotune and you'll have damn near 300/300 on the SOHC 4.0 :D

  • @turboplz - I can tell you first hand... My buddy built a carbed 302 1993 ranger for $3000. It puts out over 300hp, and 325ftlbs of torque. Theres dozens of them around my area. The truck in this video wouldn't stand a chance in hell were I live, and neither would most supercharged 4.0L rangers.

  • MAN WHERE DO U ALL GET ALL DIS STUFF?? I HAVE A 01 RANGER EDGE 4.0 I WANA PUT STUFF ON TIT BUT IDK WHEREM TO GO HELPP!!

  • @REXNTASHA1 Is your's the OHC or OHV 4.0? There is a kit for the OHC engine on ebay that's great quality, just add your supercharge and tune, then go! I believe there is works on the OHV 4.0 engine, but not sure if it's going yet or not.

  • beast truck

  • @justinchaffin1013 I THINK I GOT THE OHV 4.0 IMA LOOK IT UP THANKS HOW MUCH DID U SPENT IN UR TRUCK??

  • is that stock exaust

  • @justinchaffin1013

no is flowmaster delta flow serie 50

  • I wish I could build my Ranger 4.0L, buts it's got 698,357 on the odometer, and gets the fuck beat out of it daily!!!RUNS GREAT!!! "Cyndi, the Red Rig" just won't break down!!! It's well maintained, hoping to flip the Odometer lol!!!

  • AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME truck. GOTTA LOVE THOSE SUPERCHARGED FORD RANGERS!!!

  • do u live in henry county?

i think ive seen this truck

  • @v6firebirdv6

no bro. I live in puerto rico

  • @v6firebirdv6 Cool, you live in Henry county too, Georgia?

  • how did i end up looking at supercharged rangers?

  • @mister6sir thats what im wondering why spend 3 grand on a 3.0 when u can buy a crate motor for around 2500 and drop in a v8 lol

  • i want a supercharger for my 4.0L V6

  • i really want a supercharger for my 3 liter ranger. cant find one anywhere tho

  • got to love those eatons. did you port it?

  • i love your dyno chart, pure power across the rpm range... very nice

if you ever sell your supercharger, let me konw

  • i got a 06 ranger edge 3.0 with 123k miles. i would like a little more hp. any sugesstions?

  • @buckwheat742 put a p-flow you'll win like 60-90hp

  • @buckwheat742 I have a 04 Ranger XLT with a 3.0 ... and there's not really anything you can do to increase the horsepower. I'm trying to sell it now, and if I can't sell it, I'm going to put a 4.0 in it.

  • i got the 4.0L v6 ranger thinking about supercharging it..if its got 207 stock how much would it have supercharged?

  • well thats 207 bhp, i'd say at the wheels it probably makes 160-170 stock whp...with a s/c you'd be looking at about 210 whp..but with a good exhaust and some other intake upgrades you could easily pull off 250-270 whp

  • the real answer is dyno it.

if you are supercharged what other intake upgrades do you think you can do that will give you an extra 40 to 60 hp at the wheels lol.

your prolly one of those guys who gets a CAI and has it sucking in air from the engine bay and at the same time expects it to make serious gains even though its still passing through the stock throttle body

  • well first off i would not supercharge a 4.0L ranger, i'd drop a 302 or a modular 4.6 PI engine..then i'd put on a 75mm throttle body and if i WERE to run a "CAI" i'd run it up by my headlights down in to my bumper (but deep enough in so that water wouldn't splash it)..oh and if i WERE to supercharge a 4.0L i'd probably run an intercooler to it...you're "prolly" one of those class A google mechanics who tries to trash talk people on youtube..some of the people on youtube know a few things ;)

  • which is why last weekend i spent my time replacing the valve cover gasket on my truck as well as welding on a new muffler and after that replacing an 02 sensor and a swaybar link in a 2002 wrangler.

    google my ass.

  • youd be better off with the 302 because if you started with the 4.0 you can keep the trans.

your one of those fags that likes to talk numbers and drop names of shit but if i gave you a head gasket and told you to replace it youd fuck it up

  • have you ever replaced the bottom end, timing chain and a water pump on a 95 chrysler 3.5 24v engine? you have to lift the front end of the engine out of the car :)..a little more difficult than a valve cover, putting on a muffler, replacing an o2 sensor and a sway bar link...all of those things are minor maintenance to me, those are a few things you just bolt on....do some real work on an engine rather than some bolt on's and a muffler, than you can talk shit to me

  • ps when i describe one weekend to you and you think its all ive ever done on a car or truck thats retarded.

litterally nothing on vehicles is all that hard.

  • i never said working on a car was hard, but trying to imply you're good with cars by saying you replaced those parts is like saying you're good with women cause you had a one night stand with a hot girl...yeah, you did it but it means nothing and it wasn't hard to do

the only reason i listed those things, was because those things are huge pains in the ass to do on those cars, not that they are hard..but they are things that would typically take an hour at most on any other car

  • you are no more experienced with cars than i am, i've done my fair share of work but i'm far from knowing anything..right now we're car hobbyist's, give it a year or two and i'll probably be able to tell you exactly what sized socket you'd need for the bolts on a piston rod

  • lol i wouldnt want to memorize that bullshit. ps a 302 doesnt belong in a ranger and once i get cash flow coming in thats what im going to do. but as for your example of putting one makes engine in another make i wouldnt do that cause wtf is the point. if you like an engine buy the car that has it or one that can take it easily because its irrational to do it your way

  • the chev 305 or 350 will bolt right in the an s-10 on to the stock tranny

  • which is the chevy version of what i plan to do but correct me if im wrong since i havnt looked into it but that will only work if your starting with an s10 with the 4.3

  • correct, but there's a bit of a difference between a 350 and a 302 lol

  • lol yea plenty of ranger guys go for the 351 but the 302 is my choice, larger selection of performance parts inmho

  • yeah my buddy is doing a ranger, me an s-10..but he want's to do a 4.6 DOHC, which i give him props for originality but it's going to be a very expensive and difficult swap...haha trying to talk him in to a 302

  • either sounds like a nice swap man as for yours what are you looking at? 305? maybe a 350? saw a s10 with a 305 bored and stroked to something rediculous i forgot what exactly though. saw a few 5.0 rangers around here, BTW what should i work on first if anyone could help me out, i recently did a SI/DO exhaust system with 1 cat delete(only things that won't void my warrenty) and i was wondering if i should save up for headers or just buy cold air intake, any help would be appreciated thanks guys

  • i was thinking about economy for the s-10 so i was gonna go with the 305..but then i was like, if i'm building a truck thats mostly just going to be used for racing, i'm gonna need more than a 305..so i'm going with a 350

  • @greeleykid right on man 350 sounds like a good idea i saw a guy with an I-ROC in his s10 and there is this marine down the road from me with a fuckin boss 302 in his ranger. un fucking beleivable but good luck with that man hope everything turns out great for ya

  • lol try replacing the drive belt on a 2.5 mitsubishi engine in a chrysler cirrus, not so easy haha oh or a hub assembly? replace a stud?..any engine swaps?

  • swapped the engine in my sisters camry. rebuilt a saturn engine in the bed of my buddys truck one night.

nothing on vehicles is hard to do... which is why we dont have our rocket scientists working in garages

everything is put in its place then bolted together.

  • and rebuilding an engine is nothing, neither is a swap..when i said engine swap, i should have specified that i meant an engine swap in to a car it doesn't belong, going from carbed to injection..that type of shit

  • oh and you got me on one thing, i didn't know the 302 bolted up to the 4.0L tranny...not a ford fan

  • i just do it as it comes. so far its just been replacing my clutch my valve cover gasket which if youve popped the hood of a 97 ranger you know its burried as shit and you gotta take off the upper intake mani as well as the fuel line and the wiring harness and the ac pump it was overly complicated to get to.

i lifted my truck 4 inches had to redo the breaks all around did some fiberglassing to fix a rust hole (making patch panels is not my strong suit)

  • how much did u pay for the 4.0L super charger so i can get an idea

  • when you buy $ 3000 BBK not stop producing it

  • @michaelrivera1966 y would u pay $3000 if u can go to the junk yard and get one for 300

  • that ranger sounds mean...nice setup

  • im going to go ahead and say, 210 HP isn't that great........Lol.

  • these were 210hp with the supercharger only after changing the piston and the cam and tuning the new number changed 260hp at pump this video is 2 years old.

  • would that setup work on a s197 4.0 SOHC v6 mustang the same manifold without modifying it if so screw the m90 on the x charger ill go with the m112

  • how much is one of them superchargers

  • also considering the weight. it would feel as fast as a lot of stuff from power to weight ratio.

  • @michaelrivera1966 would love to do this to mine, but 3,000 bucks for only 50hp isnt to cost effective. if i were to put 3,000 in my ranger, i would swap in a v8 for sure. But to each his own

  • 210 hp not bad, 330 torque good.

  • @Nortzy27 I'd say that isn't too bad...they did only have like 160 from the factory. so 30% gain.

  • I have an 05 Ranger Edge 3.0-liter OHV V-6 and it puts out 148hp and 180 lb-ft of torque stock, where as the 2.3-liter DOHC I-4 puts out 143 hp and 154 lb-ft of torque. the V6 has a 5hp edge on the I-4 and 26 lb-ft edge as well. if I had done my homework 1st, I would have went with the 4.0-liter. the only bad part about the 4.0 is it doesn't come with a 5 spd manuel transmission

  • When did they stop offering a manual tranny with the 4.0? My 97 had a factory 5-sp manual. I'm guessin they stopped when they went to the OHC engine?

  • I'm not quite sure when that happened, when I bought mine new in 05, I was told it wasn't offered with the 4.0 Edge rwd

  • Im not sure if your just referring to the 05 ranger, but i have an 08 ranger 4.0 with a manuel transmission..

  • is it the Edge extended cab?

  • yes it does, i've got a 4L in my 07 and a manual transmission

  • I'm talking about an 05, and is it an Edge extended cab rwd?

  • 4.0's push 207 hp stock. bout 230ftlbs

  • Stock? The Ford 4.0 in my B4000 only makes 160 stock.

  • that sucks

  • 4.0 OHV makes about 160, 4.0 SOHC makes in the 200's, SOHC motors are the newer ones

  • lol noo way man, my little mazda 3 makes 160 stock and its a 2.3.

  • Yeah its weird, the 2.4 in my Z24 makes 150, but the 4.0 in my truck only makes 160.

  • Did I see 210 hp there? Stock these make like 160 hp?

  • i have an 89 ranger ext cab the same color as this 1 but i want 2 put 17" fouse wheels on it

  • Is this the push rod motor and why does it appear that the motor sags on one side

  • to awenser ur question yes this is the best small truck you can buy but beware the chevy guys with a v8 will be wanting 2 race u thats the way they roll in their goverment welfair wagons...lmao!

  • @33busterhound33 ~~~LMAO@ Gov Welfare wagons!

  • is the ford ranger a good car.... im about to be sixteen and this is the car i want.... if this is not a good truck what is?!?!?!?!?!

  • hey im 17 and i have a ford ranger and its a great truck ,so u should get one

  • Yeah it's a great truck but its only really half of a truck.

  • with potential.......

  • Its a great LITTLE truck. But you can't even get the thing with an 8ft box can you? I can't even fit my snowmobile in mine comfortably...

  • thats why u build it urself and make it a one of a kind unique truck....just too say its custom.

  • usually i dont like lowered trucks, but this one is really sweet

  • how much did you pay for it??? and how much did you pay for the crome moldings on the fenders
