Lockheed got greedy and wanted to build every part of the SLS. They should have stuck with a heavy lift system like AresV. However, they spent so much time and money on Orion, it help back the entire program. We currently have a much better (esp for deep space) system with Dragon by SpaceX, its been tested from space and works well.
furthermore if you used just some of the money you waste on pointless wars maybe we could have something that could inspire the world god knows we need a bit of inspiration in our lives , a ship to be proud of and to ignite the worlds dreams again , this dog food shapped tin can is uninspiring and and just turns me off nasa for good !
why dont you just update the shuttle , instead of going back 40 years and giving us sumthing that look's like crap and is not very world inspiring ! shame on you nasa you disgust me after 31 years i would have thought you would have created a real ship worth the hopes and dreams of the people you represent , god knows you have had enough time and money . Seriously what has NASA been doing for the last 25 years. All this stuff seems like the Saturn rockets with updated materials and computers. We are gonna retire our shuttles, pay the Russians for a few years, and end up back where we started. Where is the new propulsion technology or new vehicles that don't require disposable parts. At first I was hesitant at the cancellation of the program, but maybe the private sector is required to make some significant progress.

Yeah I really hope they tested one with the seats installed and some crash test dummies that are in the seats strapped down with the exact weight of the astronauts expected to sit in them.
You do realise that its almost 8 fold cheaper to send humans into space just alone by sitting the Craft and all the life support systems on top of the rocket.
instead of on the side.
also gives them a chance to jettison and escape in the event of a disaster. unlike with the space shuttle (can't parachute the SSC into the ocean)
