Really love this bass player! Haven't heard enough of his playing, but of what i have really love it, and has had an influence on me. All the best Keith! Bass love from Australia!
@jlebesis Thanks from Australia, my favorite country I've ever performed in, Beautiful!! Performed in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and tons of other cities there!!!!! Thanks for the kind words!!!! Peace!!!!!
@tazthumper Hey Keith! Thanks so much for taking the time to reply to my comment. So glad you've experienced Australia. I've been trying to find a way to get in contact with you. I play professionally here also in the freelance/session circles around the country. Would love to get in touch, though cant find a way to message you on your channel. Is there anywhere I can email you or send you a contact email? Many thanks mate! John
@tazthumper I do believe I hear my big mouth in the background =-) What an awesome day at the NAMM show with you. As always you were amazing. Good to see you're doing well. My mom says hello =-)
@OnslowHughes That includes ZZ top. Who I actually know personally and Billy would tell you the same thing.. I am sure he knows Keith or at least knows who he is.. He would tell you that Keith is a better guitar player than he is... Be careful of criticisms dude.. They show incompetence
@OnslowHughes From my experience, I have found that those who criticize great musicians and use the ol' BS cliches like "they have no groove", or they do not have soul like (plug in your own player), are wanna be musicians.. I see this time and time again.. I give younger players advice all the time and tell them do you want to be a star or a working musician. There is a HUGE difference. Stars are NOT virtuoso players. They're couped up in the studio for months to do something we can do in a day
@OnslowHughes I shall continue to listen to talented virtuoso musicians play with immense amounts of soul while you listen to overrated, talentless hacks get by on gimmicks and half-wit fans like yourself. Whatever makes you and your imagination (lack thereof) happy.
@OnslowHughes La Grange! Hahaha, you must be fucking with me. So much soul locked down in those same 3 notes those lame asses play for 4 minutes straight.
@OnslowHughes It would take you a year of sucking dicks to afford a bass that nice. You wouldn't know a groove if it came up and sexually assaulted your mother, considering your only favorites are 'ZZ Top' and 'Megadeth.'
This is Keith, actually I'm a totally right handed person, only play bass, guitar and steel guitar left handed! If you happen to read any articles about me, I used to play guitar strung for a left handed player at age 6, but after learning to play bass upside down on a friend's bass at age 12, I switched to guitar upside down too! All my basses are custom made left handed bodies but strung upside down, yes as the same way as one of my favorite players in the world, Jimmy Haslip! Peace!
@tazthumper dude im a left handed bass player your amazing man!!!!!!!!! your really good. i wish i had your skill! yeah i am a lefty and i play bass left handed. bass is the only thing i can play lol
@hereidie Keith is a lefty that learned to play on a right-handed guitar. He plays ANY right-handed guitar; just upside down. He's from my hometown and I've known him for over 30 years - I once sold him a Telecaster (I'm right-handed) - I wonder if he still has it. He is also a great guitar player - a chicken-pickin' master. He is also one of the NICEST and most HUMBLE people on the planet. It is an honor to have him as a friend. KA
HA HA HA HA HA.........I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT, I KNEW IT!!!!! I just knew this cat had to be some type of BAD-ASS because he was the one who ALWAYS stood out for me in the "Hillibillies" video!!! I am so glad that I dove deeper to find him. Great post, I'm diggin it!!!
Freakin beast dude...I wouldn't be able to get used to playing with the strings like that, but I'm not judging by any means. I think it's even more badass that you can even slap like that cuz I think it's a lot harder having to jump around more like you do it (not that it's any harder for this guy...) He puts a lot of conventional players to shame for sure.
I was in Harrisonburg, Va in 1988(?) and witnessed him play this on a 4 string bass!! Keith, where can I get a copy of the Secrets cd? Or TR3? You guys rocked!!
@69Stads I have a few copies of the 1st Secrets cd with Carter on it, write me on youtube and could see how to get it to you. I wished I could have played with TR3, they were amazing and yeah Tim Reynolds was also in Secrets for a little while. Thanks for being a fan! Peace! Keith
@tazthumper - I have a copy but worn it out . If you know how to get another let know. Also I had a copy of thier first release with BassBall on it . This was the VERY best band that never got out of that Richmond music mix. Richmond the unknown music capital of the world.
@Ra1nemaker May not be an advantage to stringing a left hand bass upside down, but that's how Keith learned to play. My cousin, Rod Riley (check him out on myspace and here on youtube), and Keith Horne grew up together in Chester,Va. From what I've been told, Keith just grabbed a right handed guitar, flipped it over and started learning. Very unique way of playing, can't imagine playing that way.
Thank you all for your kind comments! I know a lot of people ask why I play upside down and is there advantages? Well no I can't say there's any real advantages, thumbing and plucking it's kind of a double motion that your right handers do, met a lot of upside down players lately and so many techniques, makes it all interesting and everyone has their own thing! I did learn to play on a right handed bass, drummer at the time our bassist left his bass at my house as a kid, so learned it that way!
Que barbaro!!! Me da verguenza!! yo tengo 10 años tocando el bass y no le llego a este compa ni a las uñas de los pies, mis respetos! un musico de a deveras! (no soy nada!).
Yes Keith, Victor, John Billings, And James Genus were what they would refer to themselves as MOB (men of bass) Keith wouldn't pull that and Ive heard him do that groove early on when I first moved to Nashville. Yes Keith is a great guy he was nice enough to let me check out his signature bass when he first got it.
the thing is, this guy is so modest and really cool. very genuine every time i have bumped into him in nashville. he is a pretty good guitar player too.
Really love this bass player! Haven't heard enough of his playing, but of what i have really love it, and has had an influence on me. All the best Keith! Bass love from Australia!

There is no real advantage to stringing a left handed bass upside down. Most likely it is just how Keith learned to play.
