The end is the worst because you only put it into one ear, and anything like that to me is annoying. I'm not autistic, so, I don't even know why I watched this.
I was just reading that they did experiments with chalkboard sounds that showed reducing loudness of the frequencies from 3-6 khz made it more tolerable. I shall have to do my own research.
Love that sound! If it's done right, "turntablism" is the coolest sound ever X) Rockit is one of my all time favorite tracks for that reason. Y'all are wack...
The second one - Someone needs to decrease the limit on that low-cut filter, but it's a pretty cool sequenced sound
The nails on the chalkboard - the worst part is imagining how it feels to do it, the sound itself isn't bad.
yeah I can endure the sound of the chalkboard scratching, but the feeling of it running over my nails is just gross. the textures are just not meant to be.
I just do. Scratch hurts my ears very badly. I much prefer the chalkboard screech to that scratch. now the beat is fine. I like the style even. I wish I could like the scratch like others do but I can't fit in here so I give up.
@mizzbytch0403 Every autistic must be the same though. Wow, you are so functional being able to write as well as you do! Maybe it's just speech delay? My staff is helping me type this. thank you.
This gave me a head ache specifically round my temples and what feels like the frontal lobe. And alittle like the feeling you get just as car sickness kicks off.
You know, one reason I selected that track was because I like the beat so much that the offensive part was a little more tolerable even though the sound is offensive. At least the scratch did not dominate too hard. He's talented, no doubt and I won't dis him or this song. It's just a part of the disability to have problems with distortions that differ from others. I wish sometimes I could like the sound....but then I'd lose my ability to tolerate chalkboard. Why no chalkbord scratch songs!?
Sometimes, the vinyl record scratching sounds can make your heart stop amd skip a beat, and will churn your stomach, and then, you will start to shiver. And if you're annoyed by the sounds, you'll want to start to cry and scream. This comment I am sending to those who are sebsitive to record scratching music and sounds. As for me,I got used to it.
That's because the condition would be Aspergers or autism and not ADD or ADHD that this would cause a problem for. I have seen a stranger walk into an autistic children's room and accidentally produce a zippy noise and get the whole room of kids to go aggro. Don't try it.
some sounds don't bother me but if we're talking loud beeps or buzzing noises then i will be annoyed. On the other hand, whenever i see footage of Danny Gokey (someone from "American Idol") screaming at the top of his lungs to "Dream on", i can't decide whether to laugh or get pissed because of all the sensory issues I have.
Oh, I know a lot of people who dislike high notes on a sax. The other day, I met someone who hated emory boards. I wonder what causes some people to tolerate the various distortions. I wonder if it's something simple as ear morphology or something simple like that.
Has anybody ever heard of Asperger's Syndrome. I'm one of those people who have it. When I was a kid turning to a teenager,I used to cry when I heard a DJ scratch records when mixing on the turntables when I listened to the radio. And if that's not enough, when I was 6,I used to cry when my uncle scratched my mother's records on the record player. Now,I just turned 30 two days ago,and I'd like to say that I am an avid fan of turntablist DJs and I wish I was one,or at least get my own phonograph.
Yep. And I've been listening to hip-hop for 21 years now. But when I was growing up,listening to a hip-hop radio show used to be annoying sometimes when the DJ messed up the songs when he or she mixes and scratches the records non-stop. But when I turned between 16 and 19,I started buying turntablist DJ battle videos. And now I have a huge collection of it.
No. It just means you don't have a sensory sensitivity to it. I actually don't mind the tune at all, it's the tones of scratch that's used to make it. In fact, what's ironic is that I love the tune! You could be autistic or non-autistic....but autistics are more prone to micro-textured noise sensitivities of some distortion/sound or another. The safest noise might just be a sine wave or triangular wave.
Autism is not always visible. Autism is characterized by: repetitive motions, obscure interests, sensitivities to sound, touch, light and perhaps emotionally too, social communication difficulties in areas of imitation and comprehension and sometimes excessive fact spouting. Clumsiness is also common. Being book smart or absent minded, "in one's own world" (to outside observers) and often just being a little more odd than most are hallmark traits. See any of those in your friend?
the sensitive to light one goes for him, whenever we go outside for gym he always wares the mega dark sunglasses, the fact spouting one goes for me, but im not autistic
I get tension from all of the sounds you played, including the ones you say you like.
I think that's because they're complex sounds, with no clear meaning to them. When I can't identify the pitch of a sound or get a word from it, it bugs me. I've been driven crazy by the hum of an air conditioner! But relaxed like I am now, alone in front of my computer, I won't go into overload--it's when I'm tired or thinking hard or in a public place that it happens easily.
I actually get tension with all of them from time to time. When it's cold and I feel in any way achy or my hands and feet feel dry or I get goosebumps, my nerves are particularly sensitive to every little noise (including air conditioners). I can't really stand to walk on ice or hear people ice skate either even though I love the cold. Yes, overload is easy with any really distorted sounds. Only nice sines and square waves have nice tonal smoothness that don't irritate too much in that way.
None of these examples really irritate me... but one thing I CANNOT stand is repetitive noises of any kind...for example, a ticking clock in a silent room, or people clicking their pens or drumming their fingers on a table. :)
Oh, you got another one. I once had to run out of a Ross Dress for less because of the hangers on metal rods scraping. Other metal on metal frictions, brushed metals are horrible.
1 is the worst for me except the fact it has a nice beat. The second one just depends on mood. The chalkboard is not too bad for me actually but can be irritating be cacophonious and all...just not teeth buzzingly irritating.
This really freaked me out! I started to shudder really bad. I have high functioning autism. You are right about that being audio torture, well done. =)
Thanks! As this is a study for me, I'm curious which of the three samples were worst? The rappy zippy one at first? the rubbery sound or the last one? All three are pretty aweful but I'm wondering your rating for each if you have a sec to spare on it.
Thank you. I have a love hate relationship with the rubbery one. On some days, it can be pleasantly edgy and on other days, like recently, it's aweful.
So you don't like rap? that's not autism, that's good taste. Haha, I hate regular sounds too... my tv was always down to 1 or 2, and people went "you can hear that?" Yes. I can hear static from old tv sets too, drives me buggy.
Well, the middle rubbery one does a little. The last one again, is something that doesn't bother me at all and I like a little. Some music like harps and very commonly loved sounds are sounds I like. Thanks for the comment.
Hrm. The first noise makes me physically sick/drives me up a wall. Some other kinds of music might have a record scratch in them suddenly and it can be even worse.
hm... I don't like the sound a nail file... or a saw running. thaw noise makes me have to cover my earsjust because it burns my eardrums... and the nail file noise, for me anyway, is like... well probably what a record scratch sounds like to you...
Actually, a nail file is also pretty intolerable to me. A saw running is bearable but certainly no favorite. It's kind of an uncomfortable noise a bit worse than a jack hammer perhaps. I can see how some could easily be sensitive to that. It's close to my distortion sensitivity range.
I am a mother of an autistic child and I have sensory issues, auditory, tactile, and visual. I can tolerate some really annoying noises, but some just make my skin crawl, i.e.-ringing phones, dripping, ticking, beeps, clapping, and many others. My father has the same issues.
All unpleasant, none unbearable. I'm quite sensitive to Bass.
I'm entirely unable to enjoy certain types of music, especially at the volumes it tends to be played. However I'm tolerant to torture, my parents had a Cockatoo kept in a cage outside my bedroom window. It screeched a lot, like fingernails on chalkboard, very high volume. I learned to let that wash through my mind - not stick.
you forgot to add the crows of a damn rooster.

um... okay... the first noise didn't seem like anything, neither did the second, the third gave me goosebumps but didn't bother me.

it's good to get the take of others on this. Are you on the autistic spectrum?
lordalfredhenry 4 years ago
um..no... I'm really sensative to sounds but I'm not autistic... but sense I have senative hearing I figured I'd comment...

Hrm. The first noise makes me physically sick/drives me up a wall. Some other kinds of music might have a record scratch in them suddenly and it can be even worse.
lordalfredhenry 4 years ago
hm... I don't like the sound a nail file... or a saw running. thaw noise makes me have to cover my earsjust because it burns my eardrums... and the nail file noise, for me anyway, is like... well probably what a record scratch sounds like to you...
PunkRocker701 4 years ago
Actually, a nail file is also pretty intolerable to me. A saw running is bearable but certainly no favorite. It's kind of an uncomfortable noise a bit worse than a jack hammer perhaps. I can see how some could easily be sensitive to that. It's close to my distortion sensitivity range.

I am a mother of an autistic child and I have sensory issues, auditory, tactile, and visual. I can tolerate some really annoying noises, but some just make my skin crawl, i.e.-ringing phones, dripping, ticking, beeps, clapping, and many others. My father has the same issues.

How about the sound of the cell door slamming shut and Mr Big saying 'Hello gorgeous!'?

All unpleasant, none unbearable. I'm quite sensitive to Bass.
I'm entirely unable to enjoy certain types of music, especially at the volumes it tends to be played. However I'm tolerant to torture, my parents had a Cockatoo kept in a cage outside my bedroom window. It screeched a lot, like fingernails on chalkboard, very high volume. I learned to let that wash through my mind - not stick.
