My god! These people did not understand the "Rise" movie. . It is the prequel of the "Heston" movie. . ! In the "Rise" ending. A deadly infection was spread all over. That was the start of the human extinction and the start of the Ape evolution. And the missing Mars rocket mission in "Rise" was the Rocket who landed on the "Heston" movie. BECAUSE THE ROCKET WAS FREEZE FRAMED IN THE OUTER SPACE AND RESUMES IN THE FUTURE! that's why all the apes talks like human! coz it's the future of the "RISE"
Great films both of them but neither are meant to be connected. I would say that is obvious. They would have to do a period piece to match up the look with the old one in order for it to be a prequel.
The prequel doesn't fit the plot of the origonal. It is completely wrong, Nuclear War causes a mutation that ends Humanity and leads to the rise of the Gorillas. The living humans live underground worshiping a nuke that eventually end all life.
The back story to The Planet of the Apes is told in Escape from the Planet of the Apes. A plague kills all small animals especially Dogs and Cats that forces humans to find new pets. Apes were chosen because they were more easily controlled then other animals. Eventually their intellect is utilized by turning them into slaves. After decades of breading them to be more intelligent the apes become aware of slavery & revolted. In a panic Humans used the atom bomb against the apes, It failed.
Biggest mistake people make is saying Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a prequel, it is not. A prequel means that the story is the back story everyone knows finally shown for everyone to see. Rise of the Planet of the Apes' story does not match at all with the original back story. Even the writers said that Rise is the beginning of a totally new line of Ape movies. Comparing the classic to this new one is like comparing Apes and Oranges. PS. the 2001 Planet of the Apes sucks!
@BondFreek I think you did not understand the "Rise" movie . . Haven't you saw the part where a news paper boy throws a news paper and it says Rocket mission to mars was gone. . The crew of it was the protagonist in the "Heston" movie. . And in the "Rise" there is an infection in the ending. that is the start of the human extinction and the beginning of the evolution of the apes . . and in the future, that missing rocket in the "Rise" will return in the "Heston" film. Rise is not a reboot
These movies are both brilliant in their own right. For me, Rise is an emotional journey from child to man and the realization of hate and evil. The origional is more about prejuduce and equality. (I guess Rise has some of those themes incorperated too, but on a much more suttle scale.) But, if I had to choose which one meant more to me and really touched me, I would have to say Rise of the planet of the apes.
@TheTremor209 Rise is not really a prequel to the Heston movie though. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes is a prequel to Planet of the Apes. Rise is a re imagination of the whole franchise. The original, for its time, was intelligent and epic. Rise is a great achievement too. Hard to compare but i'd side with the original for now.

@j4manasseh It's still a remake because in one of the original movies you actually see how ceasar helps the other apes figh against there human master and take control. Also that movie was way more violent at the end then in this modern remake but still they were both good movies.
Planet of the apes is well, the original, the first one and one of the most classic films in history. So I've to say that the best is Planet of the apes. But of course Rise is really awesom and I think the best movie of 2011.
I own all 7 ape movies and the tv season ... rise has a whole new story line... some things are similar but IS NOT a prequel

What the? Why compare this two movies? They're connected to each other, Prequel and Sequel . . No need to compare. .
