If you are wanting to buy a 7d or t3i/t2i just for videos, go with the t2i. Same censor, meaning same quality. The 7d's features that the t3i lacks are aimed towards the photography side. If you are wanting to step up quality wise, go with the 5d mark ii.

there are more than enough reasons to justify buying a 7D over a 550D. Among other things, the 7D's autofocus makes the 550D look like a chump, which means its far better for action photography like sports or animals, with an edge in areas like weddings or documentary where a second's worth of autofocusing can result in a lost shot.

if you're a consumer or hobbyist then the 550D is fine for you, but if you're a professional then you'd be plenty justified in the increased investment of a 7D.

@nightubble I would recommend you a 550d. Why: Its lighter, newer, smaller, easier to use, picture quality is almost same as 7d(that doesn't mean it's worse), CHEAPER, it has a way better video quality, and it looks better imo.

I think the 7d vs 550d sharpening argument is nonsense.

Firstly as any experienced photographer (digital) will know, going on Photoshop, or lightroom is a pain...I would personally rather spend 2 hours on LR or CS, and go to the pub than spend 4 hours correcting any mistakes that were made in camera.

In this respect i think the 550d has the edge, "you need to do post processing!?"...i say, that that is a heavy weakness of the 7d.

I think that point about to get the best out of the cameras you need to post process your images. Yes this is correct, especially with jpegs. But the fact is, sitting infront of a computer for 3 and 4 hour stints isnt very much fun. If a professional quality camera gives you something less than an "amateur camera" then i wouldnt be very happy.

I own the 550d, and post process all images i deem processable.
