The original Mac only had 128K (like a Commodore 128) which was not enough to run the 32-bit software. They later upgraded it to 512K (like a Commodore Amiga or Atari ST)
.
The pricetag was insane. $3000 when you could buy other computers for $200 to $300
How ironic the Apple closes off users' freedom to use whatever programs they desire on their Macs, iPhones, iTabelts, and so on. They also force authors to give-up all rights to their books, if said books were created using iTunes software
.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, try installing flash on your Apple phone or tablet. Or some alternative OS like Android or Linux. You can't (and if you try you'll be banned from apple's online store)
@CamperPooP '1984' was a book written some time ago by George Orwell, published in 1949. It put the 'dystopia' theme on the map, putting ideas of a society such as the one depicted in this commercial into the minds of many. The idea was that by 1984, 'big brother' (govt.) would have total control over you and everybody else. The phrase 'big brother is watching' came from that book. This commercial tried to play off the huge - albeit outdated - success of that book, and the continuaing idea.
Jobs always had a BIg Brother mindset, despite promoting himself and his followers as rebels. That being said he was a master of promotion, and he did create some amazing things. Im glad he never found time to run for federal office.
consider for a moment Apple's quest to monopolize information. get it into their cloud and force people to access with their peripheral technology. and then think about their classic breakthrough tv commercial featured during Superbowl in 1984...We need to ask ourselves, who is Big Brother now?
"On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you'll see why 1984 won't be like "1984", until everyone gets one and is fully programmed, which should be by 2013." There, that sounds right!
Thank God.... I was afraid of another 4 years of OBAMA... and I often see other laptaps and computers in tv shows that aren't Macs.... I look... because I have 3 of them... also though... I don't see many Dells.... LOL.... and I NEVER see Steven anymore.... LOL And I don't care about the "colors" though it is nice... I love the process of the Mac. I am a designer and a writer... and a website person.... what could be better???
Its a good thing apple saved us with products that come in bright colors like light grey, dark grey, grey and black oh and the ever fluorescent white; products that market themselves as revolutionary but cant be upgraded without purchasing another entire Mac or voiding your warranty.
Meanwhile people buy, build, upgrade and customize windows PCs with new, better parts and bright colorful LEDs and cases, constantly fine tuning their PC until they have everything perfectly in sync with their mind
This commercial was created in the midst of their marketshare battle with IBM. Here it seems they are portraying their competition as mindless followers. With bland images, then displaying their Colorfull logo as to show that they are unique. But as they rapidly expand into every aspect of our life (Phone, Computer, TV) they become less and less unique, and those who buy the Apple product are now the Propaganda following individuals, whos appetite for being unique, will initiate their conformity
How I wish that Apple would lend this commercial to the Ron Paul campaign. Ron Paul can update it to reflect the current political system. The big face on the screen would be either Obama or Romney.
I don't get why everyone gives Steve Jobs all the credit for apple. Steve Wozniak had just as much, if not more to do with apple's creation and success than he did.
@wetry567765 FUUU I ACIDENTALLY POSTED!! Well anyways, it's the fact that people get emotional about the people who are performing. If those (rhiana, Katy perry, Justin beiber? I dunno) fans heard that they would be having a performance, they would be very excited, but if they heard that someone else, who could perform just as well as them, was playing, they wouldn't be excited. Why? Because the second person hasn't created an image to sell.
@comarnicolodi i dont give a fuck, i didint know him personally, but i am typing this on a macbook that is one of, if not the absolute best laptop on the market... thanks steve jobs :)

@comarnicolodi That was uncalled for. Steve Jobs, like all of us, had his own set of problems, but he was a brilliant man. He transformed the way we live today. Not to mention the fact that the man just died and his family is mourning. Have some respect and think before you post things like this.

Its ironic cause apple does have mindless cult followers and it has taken over tv. Every show and commercial I've seen on tv, if they're using a computer, its a mac or a apple OS. I have yet to see windows outside of a windows commercial.
@XenovannHellwolf That's product placement. Apple pays a heavy price for that privilege. Windows could pay the same if they want to be on TV! Apple computers have been around since 1985 so I wonder if the "Introduction to the World" is accurate?
@XenovannHellwolf This commercial was made in 1984 haha there is no point in looking at apple now and saying this is still something they would show now there successful because of thinking like this in the beginning and challenging IBM so think more about your comments haha
@XenovannHellwolf I agree some Mac followers are mindless but I used computers for over 20 years before I got sick of the MS bullshit. Got an iMac in 2010 and have never been happier with a computer. Smooth, fast and no virus and glitches. In fact, it hasn't crashed once! NOT ONCE! They are better machines, period. People that don't have them are the only ones that bash them. Using a PC now is like a "toy" very cheap feeling and looking OS..
@wetry567765 The point of this ad wasn't to show what Apple does. It was advertising a feeling, something that they still do today (ex. the "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" ad portrayed Mac users as young and cool). This ad was revolutionary. Read Steve Job's biography. It's all explained there. If I try to summarize it, I won't do it justice.
@ERobynA Yes, i get that. I am simply pointing out how stupid selling an image is. The same principle applies to mainstream music. Artists don't sell music, they sell the feeling of being "cool" that you get when listening to their music. Disgusting, really. That's why i listen to steely dan.
@wetry567765 ..wait so you're mad that music industry sells music based on what people FEEL about the music? I get you being mad about apple, but come ON. Music is ALL about emotion.

@cmdrgala You've had 5 macs since 1984? lmao wow. I've had 2 pc computers since 1995. I went from a windows 95 pc to a windows xp pc which still works great. You must not take good care of your computers if you had to get 5 different macs. And I'm curious about something. why would you have to buy a dozen pc computers if I only had to buy 2?
@patriotofliberty1776 Let's say you were 10 years old back then and knew about "1984" Ad actually in 1984. That means you're now an around-forty years old guy fighting over like a kid because some teenager doesn't know about a commercial and read some book recently. You're so pathetic.
Yes ... the book that has been read by millions and millions of ppl, and the movie that no one really saw (made in 1984). Let's get Peter Jackson to do a remake or something. Might be cool.
@dunzy1996 They were trying to compare the Macintosh to a revolutionary trying to overtake a totalitarian government that was computing at the time. It makes sense when you think.
I wish I were around in those days. Macintosh is still amazing and can't be beaten because Apple knows what makes a computer successful. Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. Apple really has the best advertisements: they're direct but not in your face, and they get their point across quickly and interestingly.
@goricanec666 Thumbs up if you were kicking it old school, and already knew about 1984 commercial since 1984, and did not need Issacson's silly book to tell you about the legendary commercial.
@patriotofliberty1776 You are really a pathetic old man. If you knew about the 1984 commercial since 1984 then you have to be at least 35-50 years old and actually asking for thumbs up on youtube. lmao. You must be that 40 year old virgin that they made a movie about. Thumbs up if you remember that movie.

Money and power doesn't change people. It shows their true face.

..1984... is this a parody of "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell?
echonoid 3 weeks ago
@echonoid Yes, they tried to get across that 1984 would not be like 'nineteen-eighty-four' because of the Macintosh. :)
iphone3gtutsntweaks 3 weeks ago
@echonoid
Yes ... the book that has been read by millions and millions of ppl, and the movie that no one really saw (made in 1984). Let's get Peter Jackson to do a remake or something. Might be cool.

@McPimpingtonTube Your attempts at sarcasm are pathetic

The Simpson's made a remake of this scene in the episode Mypods and Boomsticks, where the comic book guy throws a hammer at the screen.
SaraNikki1995 4 weeks ago
What? That makes no sense whatsoever for a computer advert. WTF!?!
dunzy1996 4 weeks ago 2
@dunzy1996 They were trying to compare the Macintosh to a revolutionary trying to overtake a totalitarian government that was computing at the time. It makes sense when you think.

It's closed source and proprietary software. It is unethical to use, as well as an enemy to my freedom.

Same as the Half-Life 2 Mac Commercial
tomsoftmedia 4 weeks ago
I wish I were around in those days. Macintosh is still amazing and can't be beaten because Apple knows what makes a computer successful. Rest in peace, Steve Jobs. Apple really has the best advertisements: they're direct but not in your face, and they get their point across quickly and interestingly.

@GUMMSHOW
I can't believe I just read that. You praise the advertisements more than the product. You truly are a sheep.
"Think Different."

@Polonium96 You obviously didn't read the rest of my comment.
GUMMSHOW 3 weeks ago
@Polonium96 I think this ad deserves praise, it was a really good marketing stunt

I was watching a movie on Steve Jobs' life last night, thought it was inspirational and kind of just threw a video together from some audio clips.
Check it out on my channel, its called "Life According to Steve Jobs" :)

@goricanec666 Thumbs up if you were kicking it old school, and already knew about 1984 commercial since 1984, and did not need Issacson's silly book to tell you about the legendary commercial.
patriotofliberty1776 3 weeks ago 2
@patriotofliberty1776 In our defence, some of us weren't around in 1984.
908error 3 weeks ago
@908error That's a reasonable excuse.
patriotofliberty1776 3 weeks ago
@patriotofliberty1776 You are really a pathetic old man. If you knew about the 1984 commercial since 1984 then you have to be at least 35-50 years old and actually asking for thumbs up on youtube. lmao. You must be that 40 year old virgin that they made a movie about. Thumbs up if you remember that movie.
