  • I can't believe this is how it started.. Still gives me the chills.

  • Illuminati

  • now i know what futurama was referencing :P

  • so te guy in the big screen is bill gates

  • it's funny how i saw the parody futurama made before i saw this original vid

  • Iluminati

  • i don't get it....

  • Big Brother is returning. Brace yourselves ACTA is on it's way!

  • greatings from george orwell.............

  • and then came Foxconn...

  • what is so bad about mac computer's? i have one and its pretty nice. just because you own a macintosh docent mean your an asshole.

  • Change the BigBroter face with the Jobs face and you get a more appropriate commercial... all the audience actually look like mactards.

  • woahh

to think that nowadays apple ads consist of a blank canvas with the product spinning around in foreground while indie-wannabe billboard top## music plays in the background

  • The irony is that Apple is now just as corrupt as Microsoft, people would seel there souls for the new i-Shit if they could.

  • @WTFjustNEWS Not really, Microsoft is just like a dumb giant now, they always been far more open than Apple. Apple is going to damage IT more that Microsoft ever did.

  • So, this was run in 1984 just once. Meant to show the world that Microsoft OS's were totalitarian and the Mac would give people a choice. Flash forward 28 years and now the "drones" in this ad have morphed into Apple's customer base. Just sitting there, taking whatever Steve Jobs (who is really who should be on that Big Brother screen) offers. Irony......

  • @TheRezRising so true... sad isn't it

  • with this shorts and big boobs, she looks like a hooters girl

  • "I'm sorry. I think Steve got the film reels mixed up. Here's the real Mac commercial-"

    "*porn plays*"

    "STEVE!"

  • Who came here because of the HL2 Mac Commercial?

  • Apple should do this commercial again, except have Google play the bad guy. Maybe get a Larry Page lookalike, and add an evil mustache or a cat on his shoulder.

  • 1984 - Microsoft is like Big Brother

2012 - Apple is like Big Brother

    Apple didn't learn :)

  • for some reason, i want to buy hammers now

  • MUITO BOM

  • The original Mac only had 128K (like a Commodore 128) which was not enough to run the 32-bit software. They later upgraded it to 512K (like a Commodore Amiga or Atari ST)

    .

The pricetag was insane. $3000 when you could buy other computers for $200 to $300

    .

  • @BustinJustin6 he died now you jerk!

  • How ironic the Apple closes off users' freedom to use whatever programs they desire on their Macs, iPhones, iTabelts, and so on. They also force authors to give-up all rights to their books, if said books were created using iTunes software

    .

If you don't know what I'm talking about, try installing flash on your Apple phone or tablet. Or some alternative OS like Android or Linux. You can't (and if you try you'll be banned from apple's online store)

    .

Apple == what IBM (big brother) was in 1984

  • I hate when people record with potatoes :))

  • Genius is a bit far fetched!

    Pure original.

  • Pure Genius

  • SOPA, PIPA and now ACTA. Global internet censorship! 2012 = end of the world.

  • i don't understaaaand. why this 1984 is not '1984'?

  • @CamperPooP '1984' was a book written some time ago by George Orwell, published in 1949. It put the 'dystopia' theme on the map, putting ideas of a society such as the one depicted in this commercial into the minds of many. The idea was that by 1984, 'big brother' (govt.) would have total control over you and everybody else. The phrase 'big brother is watching' came from that book. This commercial tried to play off the huge - albeit outdated - success of that book, and the continuaing idea.

  • Oh the irony of this commercial today!

  • Steve Jobs's face is on the screen.

  • Great Ridley Scott!!

  • Who wants to watch Blade Runner all of a sudden?

  • Whats funny is most of the 'Occupy Wall St' crowd probably has a Iphone in their pocket- While they protest capitalism.

  • Lol

  • This commercial is ironic considering what apple has become today.

  • @SternMann93 so true. haha.

  • Jobs always had a BIg Brother mindset, despite promoting himself and his followers as rebels. That being said he was a master of promotion, and he did create some amazing things. Im glad he never found time to run for federal office.

  • Today the Apple is on the other side. ;) Apple going to be a big and bigger monopolistic company.

  • Yup still gives me the goosebumps. That's my Apple!

  • @stvlndhrrs Sheep

  • @stvlndhrrs Steve Jobs's face is on the screen.

  • Damn, I missed it. It's already the 25th here where I'm from.

  • Wait a minute.... TODAY IS JANUARY 24TH!

  • I cannot believe it that this advertisement was made in 1984. It seems like it is an advertisement from the 2012!

Credit goes to the Apple team and Steve Jobs who did an excellent job. Thanks guys!

  • 1984 won't be like 1984 because they were saving it for the 2000s.

  • @xBlackVenom hahaha, good one

  • Bill Gates? LOL

  • consider for a moment Apple's quest to monopolize information. get it into their cloud and force people to access with their peripheral technology. and then think about their classic breakthrough tv commercial featured during Superbowl in 1984...We need to ask ourselves, who is Big Brother now?

  • Anybody reminded of Aperture Science?

  • "On January 24th, Apple Computer will introduce Macintosh. And you'll see why 1984 won't be like "1984", until everyone gets one and is fully programmed, which should be by 2013." There, that sounds right!

  • she works for hooters hahahahah XD

  • Somepony Ponize This make the fase on the Screen Fred or Peter From Family Guy

  • Let's keep it that way.

  • she should have used a rocket launcher, would have made more sense and would have been way cooler

  • Resembles the working conditions in Foxconn,China!

  • Do Apple fans see any irony with this video and threats of mass suicides at Apple factories in China?

  • Thank God.... I was afraid of another 4 years of OBAMA... and I often see other laptaps and computers in tv shows that aren't Macs.... I look... because I have 3 of them... also though... I don't see many Dells.... LOL.... and I NEVER see Steven anymore.... LOL And I don't care about the "colors" though it is nice... I love the process of the Mac. I am a designer and a writer... and a website person.... what could be better???

  • @richardkula21 Wtf, Obama has nothing to do with apple

  • Thats what i do every time i get Rick Roll´d.

  • Hey, I was watching that!

  • @KOOLDudefilms HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • RIP Steven Paul Jobs

    February 24, 1955-October 5, 2011

  • @lakersrbeest faggot

  • 9000999th viewer!

  • The Applebots have become what they were supposed to destroy. People who own PC's have freedom. Apple users are chained to their overlords.

  • apples logo is just as bland now as it portrayed its competitors' then

  • Reminds me of that Half Life clip :D

  • Its a good thing apple saved us with products that come in bright colors like light grey, dark grey, grey and black oh and the ever fluorescent white; products that market themselves as revolutionary but cant be upgraded without purchasing another entire Mac or voiding your warranty.

Meanwhile people buy, build, upgrade and customize windows PCs with new, better parts and bright colorful LEDs and cases, constantly fine tuning their PC until they have everything perfectly in sync with their mind

  • 1984 is still like 1984

  • And apple has become the ezakt thing he was againtst in this add ;)

  • Huh. I guess their focus on insulting the enemy rather than promoting themselves has been going on for decades.

  • I remember seeing that commercial when I was 9. Confused the hell out of me.

  • Hi

  • This commercial was created in the midst of their marketshare battle with IBM. Here it seems they are portraying their competition as mindless followers. With bland images, then displaying their Colorfull logo as to show that they are unique. But as they rapidly expand into every aspect of our life (Phone, Computer, TV) they become less and less unique, and those who buy the Apple product are now the Propaganda following individuals, whos appetite for being unique, will initiate their conformity

  • Hey we were watching that! -Futurama

  • SOPA and PIPA: Orwell rolls in his grave.

  • @VagueIllusion Don't look now, but ACTA is trying to sneak up in your @ss.

  • How I wish that Apple would lend this commercial to the Ron Paul campaign. Ron Paul can update it to reflect the current political system. The big face on the screen would be either Obama or Romney.

  • future of Youtube when SOPA hits

  • I don't get why everyone gives Steve Jobs all the credit for apple. Steve Wozniak had just as much, if not more to do with apple's creation and success than he did.

  • PlanEx.

  • Thank god that Hooters waitress had a hammer.

  • @lorenzo050008 Where do you think Hooters probably got the idea? They didn't exist in 1984.

  • @Gromit801 Well Hooters Was Founded In 1983 A.D. In A Hooters Radio Ad I Heard On The Big 550 KTRS :).

  • The lady who throws the hammer in that commercial looks like Chell from Portal.

  • @ibarkis And Portal is in the Half-Life Universum. And VALVe made an Ad exactly like this xD

  • Apple are no longer pirates :(

  • @wetry567765 FUUU I ACIDENTALLY POSTED!! Well anyways, it's the fact that people get emotional about the people who are performing. If those (rhiana, Katy perry, Justin beiber? I dunno) fans heard that they would be having a performance, they would be very excited, but if they heard that someone else, who could perform just as well as them, was playing, they wouldn't be excited. Why? Because the second person hasn't created an image to sell.

  • @EkiAku Well it's not about the actual music, its

  • i dont get it

  • Bill gates ftw

  • I'm running Windows 7, save me!!!

  • ok his products are masterpieces, but he wast a good person

  • @comarnicolodi i dont give a fuck, i didint know him personally, but i am typing this on a macbook that is one of, if not the absolute best laptop on the market... thanks steve jobs :)

  • @kurtBick

    >macbooks

    >being the best laptop on the market.

    nigga please

  • I never understood what a female athlete would be doing in that Orwellian world. Maybe she strayed from a track meet and fell into a time warp or something.

  • NOW I KNOW WHERE VALVE GOT IT!

  • The book brought me here too! We must be on the same chapter.

  • The biography brought me here :)

  • heil hitler

  • @comarnicolodi That was uncalled for. Steve Jobs, like all of us, had his own set of problems, but he was a brilliant man. He transformed the way we live today. Not to mention the fact that the man just died and his family is mourning. Have some respect and think before you post things like this.

  • fuck steve jobs, hes a freaking moron bipolar nazi

  • @comarnicolodi Sad that people like you exist.

  • @comarnicolodi you're just bitter because you couldn't come up with some of the more marvelous inventions of our time. Im sure you own an iPod or two, and use iTunes on a daily basis... idiot.

  • @comarnicolodi You're a moron and it shows... Every Genius is borderline crazy as Steve was. He was a true visionary and we should all be glad we were able to have such a human being live among us...

  • The commercial said nothing about the time AFTER 1984... ;D

  • thumbs up if you read Steve's biography! excelent book

  • wtf did i just watch?

  • Comment removed

  • OMG back in 1984 Apple was not what it is today, and not even Steve could imagine what it would come to be

  • Made in Steve

  • Sooo...Future Conan was not defeated after all?

  • And 27 Years Later Steve Jobs Dies LOL End Of Line :).

  • Its ironic cause apple does have mindless cult followers and it has taken over tv. Every show and commercial I've seen on tv, if they're using a computer, its a mac or a apple OS. I have yet to see windows outside of a windows commercial.

  • @XenovannHellwolf That's product placement. Apple pays a heavy price for that privilege. Windows could pay the same if they want to be on TV! Apple computers have been around since 1985 so I wonder if the "Introduction to the World" is accurate?

  • @janerheaburt Apple Computers have been around since the late 70's

  • @XenovannHellwolf I have seen plenty of windows laptops used in television shows

  • @XenovannHellwolf This commercial was made in 1984 haha there is no point in looking at apple now and saying this is still something they would show now there successful because of thinking like this in the beginning and challenging IBM so think more about your comments haha

  • @InsaneD602 Finally someone with a brain!!

  • @XenovannHellwolf I agree some Mac followers are mindless but I used computers for over 20 years before I got sick of the MS bullshit. Got an iMac in 2010 and have never been happier with a computer. Smooth, fast and no virus and glitches. In fact, it hasn't crashed once! NOT ONCE! They are better machines, period. People that don't have them are the only ones that bash them. Using a PC now is like a "toy" very cheap feeling and looking OS..

  • @BrianPex The haters will always hate macs because they can't afford them.

  • @cjs33139 Not true. I have a Mac and I hate it.

  • @XenovannHellwolf they dont need to promote windows...

  • Goldstein's message?

  • half life brought me here

  • @LolDude571 i aggre

  • Is this commercial tell me. Don't be like everyone else getting a PC. Be different and get a Mac. Is this right?

  • it's ironic how now apple uses Retina Display but this video is 240p

  • gay

  • UNDERBART!!!!!!!!!!

  • i dont get it?

  • @shazzakhan99 Read 1984

  • Да-да ! Русские не сдаются ! Слава Руси !

  • Слава Руси!

  • Сейчас здесь будет куча коментов на русском!

  • Soo... how does this ad show what Apple does?

  • @wetry567765 The point of this ad wasn't to show what Apple does. It was advertising a feeling, something that they still do today (ex. the "I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" ad portrayed Mac users as young and cool). This ad was revolutionary. Read Steve Job's biography. It's all explained there. If I try to summarize it, I won't do it justice.

  • @ERobynA Yes, i get that. I am simply pointing out how stupid selling an image is. The same principle applies to mainstream music. Artists don't sell music, they sell the feeling of being "cool" that you get when listening to their music. Disgusting, really. That's why i listen to steely dan.

    And there's also this...

    comedycentral (dot com)/videos/index.jhtml?videoId=162976&title=planex

  • @wetry567765 ..wait so you're mad that music industry sells music based on what people FEEL about the music? I get you being mad about apple, but come ON. Music is ALL about emotion.

  • SOPA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • this was not only the beginning of macintosh computers. it was also the beginning of the retarded slogans that apple uses. "You will see why 1984 won't be like 1984." yea thats retarded anyway you look at it. But now their new slogan is "If you don't own an Iphone then you don't own an Iphone." yea thats retarded also.

  • Apple stopped communism, according to what happens in the book 1984

  • It's ironic that Apple with it's closed ecosystem, is actually the "big brother" in this ad. Such hypocrites.

  • @rakgitarmen So is your comments which is a stolen quote from the book

I am even at the page right now

  • @rakgitarmen apple isn't the big brother in this ad...

  • @inspire940 are you dumb?

  • @rakgitarmen Ho Ho Mr. I read the biography and I think I'm smart now. Dumb ass.

  • May the Mac be with you, and your system folder live long and prosper. I been with Mac since the start. This is my 5th Mac, from the Mac Classic to the Blueberry IMac, to my current G5.

Now If I would of had a P.C. I would of had to buy a dozen computers. Once you have had Mac you do not go back.

  • @cmdrgala You've had 5 macs since 1984? lmao wow. I've had 2 pc computers since 1995. I went from a windows 95 pc to a windows xp pc which still works great. You must not take good care of your computers if you had to get 5 different macs. And I'm curious about something. why would you have to buy a dozen pc computers if I only had to buy 2?

  • I was brought here because it was implied that this video depicts the future of America....

  • every fascist wet dream.

  • Yet... because of Steve Jobs the future is going to be like 1984.

  • @patriotofliberty1776 Let's say you were 10 years old back then and knew about "1984" Ad actually in 1984. That means you're now an around-forty years old guy fighting over like a kid because some teenager doesn't know about a commercial and read some book recently. You're so pathetic.

  • @cheshitvol2 i was six years old and remember.

  • Very funny to see nowadays how the roles between Apple and IBM have been swapped.

  • @patriotofliberty1776 I Was Born In 1984 A.D. You Dipshit LOL :).

  • any 1 here thinks of half life 2 after watching this!!!

  • @storm12353 They made a thing similar to this one. Visit Valve's channel if you didn't

  • in "1984":

    Oceania -The party/Ingsoc/BIG BROTHER

    in this commercial

    Microsoft -Bill gates

    in "1984"

    Eastasia

    in this commerical:

    Apple

  • I love Big Brother!

    [bang]

    ---> :)

    [thud]

  • Big Brother is Watching You

  • [This comment removed by SOPA]

  • THis wut the HL2 Commerical came from.

  • @mbe102 how so? It's elitism?

  • Money and power doesn't change people. It shows their true face.

  • Right now... I see that the views are 8 818 888... odd.

  • @aveyowyns not that odd. Its called a number. I've learned about the number 1 million in third grade.

  • LOL

  • This girl was just my waitress at hooters

  • Um not very attractive, I'm glade the iPhone was better..
