  • Our High School band is playing "Mars" For our spring concert

  • No clapping?! What fools!

  • Comment removed

  • I would have claped like a nutter.

  • 3:01 Goose bumps every time...

  • @TheDarkJokerknight I Know, Simply Beautiful

  • Oh man. It's times like this when I'm actually GRATEFUL for this thing called "Youtube". My goodness.

  • Why don't we have anything close to this good in the U.S.?

  • More people need to listen to classical music. Or watch that TED talk about how more people need to listen to classical music, *then* listen to more classical music.

  • 0:17

Wait guys, I think I see Chuck Norris on those drums.

  • 1:07 ooh, they've got gorbachev on strings!

  • Wouldn't it be great if every country who is represented at the Olympics in London, sang, cheered, mimed etc to I vow to thee my country. They would vow they would do their best for their own country!

  • wow. Simply wow. Congrats!!!

  • Literally, just no words describe.

  • Why are we even commenting? There are just no words...

  • I love the song...it´s always played for......Her Majesty...and it´s also my song, sagittarii...my planet...but I love you people out to listen to this...the bringer of jollity....but listen to sibelandi Finlande.....that got some really chillig parts...really chilly.....

  • I was so pleased to find out Holst was English. We should make this our new national anthem, or Land of Hope and Glory.

  • We should open the Olympics with this in 2012. It would be class.

  • You can hear elements of every modern Sci Fi score in here. Fantastic

  • das haben wir heut in musik gehört :D PS: liebe grüße an die 9a WHG :) <333

  • @ssw2689 Fuck off Mr. Music Critic. Keep your opinions to yourself. I'd like to see you go up there and conduct it better yourself. This performance was amazing. It's not healthy psychologically to find flaw in everything.

  • Excellent!

  • I've never seen that one section in the beginning 3/4 be conducted in 3.. I've only seen it in a slow 1. And I thought conductors weren't supposed to hold a white baton on a white backdrop?? I think Eiji Oue with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra did it better.. plus there was a little more passion in it. Some missed notes in the trumpet section there too..

  • @ssw2689 I'm going to have to disagree with you. It doesn't matter what the conductor wears, that is complete bull.

I don't like that interpretation of Jupiter, I defo prefer this one. Eiji Oue is awesome, not questioning that., but to say there was no passion? We must of been listening to different performances!

  • good good good...

  • omg, so that's what this music is called!

  • good fucker did right thing

  • @bobbygray100 I MEANT SETTLERS THE GAME :P

  • this is in catherine

  • I do love the 'I vow to thee, my country' part!

  • Jupiter is a great music achievement by Holst !

  • amazing

  • wow

  • SPLENDID INDEED !BUT AM I THE ONLY ONE WHO REMEMBER THE SETTLERS WHEN LISTENING TO THAT SONG :P!!

  • Great video quality. The only thing that really detracts from this video is the lacking bass... The bass really doesn't have enough oomph; I think it's either poor microphone placing or a less-than-stellar video file..

  • @Josephontheball It's incredibly difficult to get the full orchestral effect without being there. You need a huge number of speakers of exceptional quality and a recording that's set up for the recording to get the best out of it. Being in stereo and compressed doesn't help at all lol.

  • 3:00 looks cool as hell

  • RIP Maestro Mackerras!

  • What other TV company has their own Philharmonic Orchestra? None, that's why the BBC is the best.

  • @colonellemon Please tell me you are joking. Do yourself a favour and google radio orchestra. (Not bashing BBC by the way, great performace!)

  • @colonellemon i think disney has 7

  • did he pop a tums in the middle of the chorale? or maybe those were his dentures....either way the chorale lacked the emotion it deserves, maybe next time he'll take prilosec in the morning.

  • Idea: Someone should create a new soundtrack for indiana jones and star wars by arranging some of these movements! Would be legit

  • @cocacolaman3 Williams was hugely influenced by Holst's work on the Planets for his scoring of Star Wars and Indy. That's why it'd work so well lol.

  • I wanna play the 1st timpani part sooooooooo bad now D:

  • fantastic <3 one of my favourites

  • Our band plays a part of the (at 3:00) and might I just say for any of you with negative comments you fail because this song is not easy to play and they sound pree beast. c:

  • I think Jupiter should be a more sinister piece, like Mars. I'm just that sort of person ;)

  • I Vow to Thee My Country - just blows me away every time

  • The piece was scored for 6 horns but only 3 clarinet players.

  • why are there like 10 french horns but only 2 clarinets?!?!?

  • @shaymin984 The clarinet shop was shut

  • Anyone else think that this sounds like something John Williams would have written? (Or rather, John Williams sounds like something Holst would have written?)

  • Listen.

This is the voice of one great civilization that lives in a small solar system.

    Hear Us, Universe!

  • @IsraelSilvaOficial Nanu Nanu

  • Nice one mate.. thanks for posting.

  • 3:02 brings tears to my eyes, as "Thaxted" is not only one of the finest hymn tunes ever written, bar none, but it was played at Diana's funeral.

  • I keep associating this with a British Airways commercial of about a decade ago. LOL

  • Fabulous rendition! I've been humming this at work for days lol

  • Looks like 3 people hit the dislike button by mistake...

  • 3:02 one of the most beautiful melodies I've heard, and gets better when the brass comes in

  • Download the audio from this track at tubepull doht cohm.

  • You Brits are so lucky. If only America had a Proms. Alas, we're stuck with Kanye West and Justin Bieber.

  • @MariusChamberlin Well, there are some pretty darn prestigious orchestras here... but they're not nearly as popular as tha aforementioned artists... who seem to be more artists of business and manipulation than of music...

  • @ChopinFanatic19 Yeah but nothing like the scale of the Proms. I mean, a whole concert series, with nothing but classical. It's like a classical Woodstock, without the drugs.

  • @MariusChamberlin Alright, I concede the point... that would be AWESOME. haha

  • @MariusChamberlin hey, i love classical music, but you can't hate on kanye or justin, i love them too.

  • @MariusChamberlin Most major cities have an orchestra.

  • @SQLinjected Yeah, but what do we have here in the US that's comparable to The Proms?

  • @MariusChamberlin Sadly,

  • el director es malisimo...

  • wow 3 IDIOTS!!!! dislike this... the rest of us are BRILLIANT!!

  • Good quality of this timepiece,... thank you.

  • 0:16 holy timpani. I never realized it was that crazy.

  • Hehe, Im playing the French Horn part in a solo recital :D ( and other stuff my Private lessons teacher wants me to play x3) It's so freckin' hard, Im playing it on euphonium and 1:02 where the.... i guess you can say "march" happens, I have to play so High Dx But it's so fun to play xD :D

  • @xXJawruWolfXx Same here I just played that same part on euphonium also.

  • @Thedearster It's a pain :P

  • 3 people have no ears

  • besides Mars it's one of my favourite pieces of Holst's Planets.

    Thanks for the uploads!

  • R.I.P. Sir.

  • @clarinetplayer4ever don't we all

  • That first timpanist is HOT!

  • @fliboi78 Not as hot as that conductor.

  • @fliboi78 Paul Turner. Shit hot mate.

  • Rest in Peace, Sir Charles! Thank you for your music - may you find jollity in heaven!

  • Thank you SO much for posting! LOVE THIS!

  • This orchestra each year has been consistently great. And some people say English orchestras are timid and boring. MY ASS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the french horn part is awesome, but it is a bitch to play xP

  • @EPCJ2010 i wouldn't know. but it looks extrimly hard.

i'd love it if my school band played this.

but we only have one french horn

  • @ThomastheE2engine It is very very hard, i've played it.

  • Superb timpanists!

  • easily my favorite!! im just a jolly person haha!!

  • Comment removed

  • @trackandfieldboy i am a fucking bringer of war then... lol... mars is just the best planet

  • @sushi00423 Because it's not like the director would have told them to play them longer if he wanted them to or anything.

  • @sushi00423 Bearing in mind they are playing in the Albert Hall, the most bathroom-esque acoustic ever. And the mics are alot closer than the audience's collective ears.

  • wow this recording was spectacular! amazing!

  • BRINGER OF JOY

  • 2ed Chair Trumpet solo at the end was amazing :) and First was just breath-taking :D Great job 8D

  • i dont really care for the trumpetist, its a bit over the top

  • YES!!! this song is, like the planet, the bringer of jolity. It was brilliant...!!!

  • The choral in this particular piece is hair-raising!

  • Loved Jupiter. I played this with our orchestra in WIsconsin. We had a lame arrangement of it. Nothing compared to this!!!

Thanks for posting yet another top notch performance.

    Cris

  • Could anyone suggest music similar to the passage around the 4 minute mark?

  • "I vow to thee, my country" a British patriotic song probably best known for it's use on Rememberance Day.

  • 'World in union' the Rugby Union Anthem

  • Symphony no.2 "Resurrection" by Mahler.

It is quite long, but by the end you will be utterly moved.

  • Thanks all.

  • O God Beyond All Praising is apiece that has the main theme in it. Try looking it up on YouTube-I know its there

  • There are arrangements of this piece anything from 15 seconds to 10 minutes, so keep looking and you will get this piece, but a little shorter

  • This is absolutely brilliant!

    Thanks for uploading!

  • Wonderful - thank you! I'm away from home at the moment so missed this - it really is superb. Is there any chance of the Elgar and Delius from Part I of the same concert?

    Thanks again!

  • Absolutely fantastic performance! I watched this yesterday on the T.V, amazing!
