More people need to listen to classical music. Or watch that TED talk about how more people need to listen to classical music, *then* listen to more classical music.
Wouldn't it be great if every country who is represented at the Olympics in London, sang, cheered, mimed etc to I vow to thee my country. They would vow they would do their best for their own country!
I love the song...it´s always played for......Her Majesty...and it´s also my song, sagittarii...my planet...but I love you people out to listen to this...the bringer of jollity....but listen to sibelandi Finlande.....that got some really chillig parts...really chilly.....
@ssw2689 Fuck off Mr. Music Critic. Keep your opinions to yourself. I'd like to see you go up there and conduct it better yourself. This performance was amazing. It's not healthy psychologically to find flaw in everything.
I've never seen that one section in the beginning 3/4 be conducted in 3.. I've only seen it in a slow 1. And I thought conductors weren't supposed to hold a white baton on a white backdrop?? I think Eiji Oue with the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra did it better.. plus there was a little more passion in it. Some missed notes in the trumpet section there too..
@ssw2689 I'm going to have to disagree with you. It doesn't matter what the conductor wears, that is complete bull.
I don't like that interpretation of Jupiter, I defo prefer this one. Eiji Oue is awesome, not questioning that., but to say there was no passion? We must of been listening to different performances!
Great video quality. The only thing that really detracts from this video is the lacking bass... The bass really doesn't have enough oomph; I think it's either poor microphone placing or a less-than-stellar video file..
@Josephontheball It's incredibly difficult to get the full orchestral effect without being there. You need a huge number of speakers of exceptional quality and a recording that's set up for the recording to get the best out of it. Being in stereo and compressed doesn't help at all lol.
did he pop a tums in the middle of the chorale? or maybe those were his dentures....either way the chorale lacked the emotion it deserves, maybe next time he'll take prilosec in the morning.

Anyone else think that this sounds like something John Williams would have written? (Or rather, John Williams sounds like something Holst would have written?)
@MariusChamberlin Well, there are some pretty darn prestigious orchestras here... but they're not nearly as popular as tha aforementioned artists... who seem to be more artists of business and manipulation than of music...
@ChopinFanatic19 Yeah but nothing like the scale of the Proms. I mean, a whole concert series, with nothing but classical. It's like a classical Woodstock, without the drugs.
Hehe, Im playing the French Horn part in a solo recital :D ( and other stuff my Private lessons teacher wants me to play x3) It's so freckin' hard, Im playing it on euphonium and 1:02 where the.... i guess you can say "march" happens, I have to play so High Dx But it's so fun to play xD :D
@sushi00423 Bearing in mind they are playing in the Albert Hall, the most bathroom-esque acoustic ever. And the mics are alot closer than the audience's collective ears.
Wonderful - thank you! I'm away from home at the moment so missed this - it really is superb. Is there any chance of the Elgar and Delius from Part I of the same concert?

I was so pleased to find out Holst was English. We should make this our new national anthem, or Land of Hope and Glory.

Idea: Someone should create a new soundtrack for indiana jones and star wars by arranging some of these movements! Would be legit
cocacolaman3 9 months ago
@cocacolaman3 Williams was hugely influenced by Holst's work on the Planets for his scoring of Star Wars and Indy. That's why it'd work so well lol.
