to the OP: I have the same car and I'm running full 3'' turboback with an APR R1 DV and now recently installed aurojet FMIC. Mine just started "fluttering" like that after the install. Is this possibly a boost leak? it sounds cool but I'm hearing that its not the best thing in the world for the car.
hey man do u or have u had problems with ur water pump? i have 2 friends that have the gli and both of them have had thier water pumps go out. i know volkswagen has pretty good reliability but some times they make a few bad apples. and i was just wondering if it is a manufacture flaw.
im all out an american muscle guy but the jetta gli's in the grey with those wheels are hella nice. ok im pretty darn sure its a jetta anyhow i saw there was a car at this used car lot and it looked alot like a jetta but it had no badging exept in the front grill it said something like karme or something close to that. is it anything special?
HEY WHAT'S UP...SAME QUESTION AS MrANNAN81..(IS THE MAGNAFLOW THE ONLY MOD FOR THE EXHAUST...?)I HAVE A 2004 JETTA GLI, I JUST PUT A MAGNAFLOW EXHAUST ON IT (part #16652) AND YOURS SOUND BETTER....
NIce Jetta dude!!! I have a 2001 1.8T Wolfsburg edition with 150hp and runs pretty good. But I'm kinda jelouse of this one...keep it in good shape. Btw, cover the license plate...no one needs to know it...
BOV releases the pressure of the turbo into the atmosphere, diverter valve puts it back into the manifold. I have been told these cars run better with a diverter valve, but I can't be sure.
For the record, I'm running a Forge BOV not DV. The fluttering was fixed after I noticed a small boost leak. With all the research I've done, I'm fully aware that BOV's will throw a code. Yes, our cars may like a DV but the BOV works the same way (minus the recirculating of boost) and has not caused any damage to my engine.
it's been no problem. i've put 40,000 hard kilometers on it (hard kilometers!!!) and i'm at 160,000 km and it runs great, makes great power. i've beaten the shit out of it at the track with no issues at all.
dude just to let you know the fluttering sound (mostly heard in reverse) is compressor surge (your turbo is spinning backwards from boost that was not released correctly). Get a good diverter valve i recommend Forge Motorsport's 007 valve. Or if you already have a diverter valve i would recommend adjusting or checking your spring. I know this because I have an '05 GLI and the same thing happened to myself
I correct myself... if you have an "aftermarket diverter valve check you spring"... If you still have a stock DV go with an aftermarket and that will be eliminated. If you currently are running a Blow off valve that is your culprit... GLI's do not like BOV's :)
hey man love the car! i am thinking about the yellow lamanix on my headlights! and that is a diverter valve...not a blow off right...at least it sounds like it! and for the guy who was talking about his wrx and calling you a tool...honestly he needs a new hobby! owning a vw is not just owning a regular car...it is being a part of the legacy! hey man dope car and keep on dubbin! H2Oi 2008 OR BUST!!!!
why did your turbo sound so messed up when u let off of the gas did u put a blow-off on instead of the diverter? what did u all do to it? I own one too
I love these cars and am looking to buy a used one. Sounds great with the magnaflow and bov. But this video would have been great if someone ran by and grabbed the camera while you turning around. =P
YOu should switch to a bov that is diverted or a hybrid bov... i hear some compressor surge and that is a bad sign.VW turbo motors hate atmospheric BOV's because they run rich due to the a/f mixture the ecm calculates between shifts... just a little advice... i hate to see a blown VW motor
WTF your cars mad slow and the BOV sounds like shit y in the world would you spend 24k on a slow car y not just get a WRX i only payed 19500 for a biger turbo and AWD oh yea for 2.0L haha tool bag
In you response to my car....to each is own. IMO, while the WRX does perform well it's overall appearance looks like a brick with Hemi Superbird (classic muscle car from the 60's-70's for those youngsters out there) wing bolted on the trunk. So, while you may be able to beat my car in overall performance, I'd rather be seen in my GLI with class than your WRX with my hat backwards looking like some kid trying to prove to the world that your car rules. That makes me laugh!!!!!
theres a hose disconnected off of the diverter valve, thats why it makes the fluttering noise. mine did the same thing. i work at a performance vw dealership tho so i got it fixed for free. it only takes a couple seconds to fix, all you need is a hose clamp. i would suggest doing it tho, little vacume leaks like that rob so much power. huge difference. sick ass car tho!! great job.
Thanks for the input but I am running a forge BOV hence the fluttering sound. I could go with an HKS and get a different sound but I'm ok with the fluttering. I have checked all the hoses and made sure all areas are properly plugged and secured. I am still maintaining solid boost pressure and am spiking around 18-19 and holding around 15-16. Thanks again for the help.
At the time of this video my clutch was on it's last leg. I have since installed a stage 2 EuroSpec clutch and light weight steel flywheel. Now I can drop the hammer down with no worries.
Clutch was going out when I recorded this video. Would have been extremely noticeable. I have since installed a high performance clutch and R32 short shifter.
New clutch results? What results are you referring too? For the sake of the video, I'd rather not dump the clutch (especially the new one), spin through first and second, and shave $50 of tread off my fresh set of F1's. Racing from a dead stop in a front wheel drive car is pointless IMO. I'd prefer to let the performance (and driver skill) shine through around some twisty turns or a good highway run.
Your car looks really similar to mine. I have the same paint and the Gli stock wheels. You can deff tell you have yellow headlights too. Do you have the stock wheels on your car? I cant tell because they look really similar to the stock ones but I cant tell.
