Douchebag. Provoked or not, this guy really went out of his way to retaliate.
Whoever employs this guy should dump him, bad for their image.
I believe that's Giant? Unfortunately, I already have one of theirs, but otherwise would get something different if this is their version of sportsmanship.
I admire George and his willingness to admit that he was wrong. People make mistakes and I don't see any reason to bash him or his employer. I will keep supporting Giant and the people that work there.
Completely uncalled for, un-sportsman-like behavior.
Reasonable thinking during the event is far more impressive than half-assed apologies after the fact. Particularly when it involves a "sponsored" rider, representing an industry-relative manufacturer.
Poor sportsmanship. I he felt he was unfairly being bumped he should have brought up the issue with the RD. I don't know what was on the line in this race but chasing this guy down and assaulting him didn't get this guy any closer to achieving it. Really only makes him look like an Ar$e
REALLY? You ran after another racer, threw your bike down, and attacked him? Let me be clear about this: You did this in a BICYCLE race? What a douche.
Is there a lot of money on the line for winning or something? Or were you already feeling less than manly for wearing spandex and just had to offset it?
Thanks for helping me decide not to buy the Giant GFR models for my four nephews for Christmas. I'll look elsewhere.
So he works and is sponsored by GIANT? Well I know one bike shop/manufacture I will not support and I will be spreading the word to everyone I know to avoid them like the plauge as long as this ass works there.
Geez, talk about poor sport! Maybe he should take up a more gentle sport! He is actually sponsored? Wow, I would not want my name to be associated with that tool! Very bad publicity!
A little roid rage there? I ran cross country and road races for years, and people get bumped into, knocked over, tripped accidentally and on purpose. Get over it, get on your bike, and move on. That kind of behavior is out of control.
I have been to a lot of events and this is just over the line, how stupid, he needs to go do something else. I cant believe this guy even works in our sport. how sad his sponsor pays for him to act like an idot. One of these times, the competition may just turn around and beat the #@%& out of him.
What horrible sportsmanship. I am a business owner, and would personally NEVER sponsor that guy. For people to enter a race and get angry over a little rubbing is absolutely unacceptable.
@georgebarthel needs to be fired from his job, and the atacked rider should press charges and file a civil suit. Its pretty clear that "george" is unstable, and needs serious medical help!
To his employer, get him help fast before he does something like this at work and ends up killing someone!!!!
I could be wrong but it looks like the guy in the inside was slightly off balance trying to avoid getting tangled up. He may have leaned into the guy that fell off of his bike. Regardless it looks like everyone is in agreement that it was an overreaction from the guy the that could not stay on his bike.
yep looks just like the video. He was on the inside of you, you knew it, you opted to not give him room (which is fine) and then fell off your bike. If you race circle track and someone gets a nose inside of you, you sure as hell don't turn into them and then act like a baby when YOU wreck.
and i like how you justify the both as "contact" as if your assault is anywhere close to a "bump" while in a corner while racing cx while going stupid slow during a 180 degree turn. own up man and eat crow. your kids will respect you a lot more.
i agree with hollabackgrill. you both were shooting for the inside line and you both got knocked off your bikes. but he got on his bike and kept riding and you be nuts. ya so i don't see an out of control action, i see some good racing going on
@georgebarthel ya i believe you. it makes sense. way to own up to it. i can't help but laugh because i have done some stupid things before too. hahaha
the sad thing is that the guy works in the bike industry (Giant Bicycles) and this is how he treats people. No wonder Giant was the last one to get on the Cross wagon. Looks like a typical roadie reaction.
dude they went into the turn together and bumped. no big deal. i was there that day and bumped many people. the last thing i would of done is attack another rider and physically throw them off their bike with the intent of harming them. that guy should be arrested.
Like most video like this....you don't know what happened before the video caught the action.

Rubbing's not racing. I remember when cyclocross wasn't filled with jockish dicks. Those were good times.

Wow! I mean WOW!!! that first guy hardly bumped into the other rider.
The reaction to that innocent bump was way too much.
I worry about people like that. one day they will fly off the handle for no really good reason.
Scary!

are you comparing your outrageous behavior to someone coming into your line at 3mph in a cyclocross race? haha!
