I totally agree with you kate about the baby commercial. the reason I became a vegetarian was for moral reasons as well as health. the way the commercial, and things like it make vegetarians and vegans feel is a way that not many can relate to only because we think a different way about meat.
I'm a vegetarian..well mostly. I once in a while eat Filipino fish that my mom cooks. But for an infant to eat meat, I wouldn't judge them because they don't know anything that goes on. They honestly don't. And they probably wouldn't care until the age most people become vegetarians. When I become a mother, I would never force my children to be vegetarians I would just be honest with what happens in slaughter houses.

Agreeeed on the advert. I was raised a vegetarian, and not for religious reasons. I am 17 and my parents would not mind if I decided to eat meat. I feel as if I would have a guilty conscience if I'd eaten meat as a child, not that I judge my meat eating friend for it, but I completely agree with you.

It's the food chain, people were meant to eat meat, just like in nature the animals eat eachother. My father works for a company that sells meat. I grew up learning a little bit about what happens to the birds and it never bothered me enough to give up meat.
Was that the Quorn naked chicken cutlets? You can't eat those plain- you HAVE to add them to something. My favorite is using them in the pre-boxed meals in the pasta aisle.
Have you ever read up about the Synthetic Meat movement? 5 years or so, scientists will have it ready. No farms, no animal-killing, basically real meat without the animal.
the meat thing, to me doesn't feel wrong because the meat all over the little girl was (probably) cooked. The way my parents raised me and my brother was like, as a baby and toddler, they gave us a vegetarian diet. At the point where we realized that we don't eat any meat, they let us eat it if we wanted to. I said no, my brother said yes. So, I've been a vegetarian my entire life.
I was vegan from the time I was born until I was about ten. The food when I was vegan was delicious. I find food with meat isn't as exciting. My family was vegan for about 5-10 years before I was born. I love the reasons that you don't eat meat and I agree with you. Stand by your convictions! :)

Hey Kate, DO NOT WATCH STORAGE WARS! Watch Auction Hunters, it is a really cool video like Storage Wars but it is just about two people who bid for storage units all around the country. Also, they actually KNOW about storage auctions and know whether it is smart to bid on something or not. I really prefer it over storage wars.
Until the age of 5, children cannot be vegetarians/vegans/ etc because during the first 5 years they need protein/ the fat/vitamins/minerals in milk and without it can become malnourished. There was a nice episode of "House" that touched on this subject and how it's considered child endangerment by Child Protective Services and can result in the child being taken from the well-meaning parents.
That commercial makes me sick. I am a vegetarian for the same reason and I agree very much with you, Kate. Besides . . . at that age, don't babbies usually still eat mushed up veggies and fruit? Not meat? Especially not like THAT. Ugh. It'd make me sick even before I stopped eating meat.

My mom was raised on a farm and my aunts currently run a farm of pigs and chicken. However my mom had said that if you know where your getting your meat then you wont have to fuel the big companies who use those horrible slaughter house. If you can buy your meat from a smaller meat company then the possibility that the animals will be treated poorly is reduced simply because the company doesn't have the money or the space to support carrying too many animals.

Hey Kate, DO NOT WATCH STORAGE WARS! Watch Auction Hunters, it is a really cool video like Storage Wars but it is just about two people who bid for storage units all around the country. Also, they actually KNOW about storage auctions and know whether it is smart to bid on something or not. I really prefer it over storage wars.

Until the age of 5, children cannot be vegetarians/vegans/ etc because during the first 5 years they need protein/ the fat/vitamins/minerals in milk and without it can become malnourished. There was a nice episode of "House" that touched on this subject and how it's considered child endangerment by Child Protective Services and can result in the child being taken from the well-meaning parents.

That commercial makes me sick. I am a vegetarian for the same reason and I agree very much with you, Kate. Besides . . . at that age, don't babbies usually still eat mushed up veggies and fruit? Not meat? Especially not like THAT. Ugh. It'd make me sick even before I stopped eating meat.

@WritingSchiozo101 I live on a farm and we raise cows for meat. We treat them very nicely and they live there life in hilly pastures and aren't the least bite scared of me in fact they are quite fond of me.

I think the meat-covered baby is adorable! Sorry Kate, but I love meat and I've got no moral compunctions to avoid. I don't quite care for the hormone-saturated, processed meat we have, but then again I enjoy stalking, putting down, cleaning, dressing and cooking my own meat when possible. I'm not afraid to look my meal in the eye.

If you're going to eat meat I think you should show a little respect and appreciation for the animal that had it's life violently taken away from it, smearing a dead animal all over an infants face reinforces the ungrateful attitude society has towards factory farmed animals.

There are some people with really condesending tones talking about pescetarianism. Moral reasons means THEY DON'T WANT TO EAT BIRDS AND MAMMALS. IT'S THEIR CHOICE WHAT THEY DO OR DON'T EAT.
And coolguy4488: what are you trying to get at when you say that Kate must be "that kind of vegetarian" to eat eggs?
MORAL REASONS = PERSONAL CHOICE

My mom was raised on a farm and my aunts currently run a farm of pigs and chicken. However my mom had said that if you know where your getting your meat then you wont have to fuel the big companies who use those horrible slaughter house. If you can buy your meat from a smaller meat company then the possibility that the animals will be treated poorly is reduced simply because the company doesn't have the money or the space to support carrying too many animals.

@LaughingOutKraut Maybe because fish farms are bit more "humane" less pain and suffering, than eg. mass production chicken wich muscles grow faster than their bones and that causes major pain. Not sure thou this is just how i see it.

That commercial... It disturbs me too, it is like the baby just covered its face with some dead animal flesh and blood. Babys should be drinking milk and eating porridge not animals. I think it looks disgusting, so dont worry kate, you dont have to be sorry for having an opinion.

@BobifyYou It's a vegetarian meal. For instance, I eat vegetarian chicken. It is not real chicken. So eating breaded slug- probably made of veggies or tohfu or something- is fine. Gross-sounding, but fine. I've never heard of a breaded slug before . . . interesting.

ahahaha... storage wars... "yeeeeep!" @_< that's Dave that mostly does that. Back in North Carolina, there was a guy at our church who actually kept saying "yeeeep!" during service. Not "amen!" like others do. It was actually MORE annoying than the guys in Storage Wars!! I couldn't believe it x.x

If it makes you feel any better, Kate, I think you're beautiful enough for it to not really matter if you have anything in your teeth. I think I get how you feel about the baby thing. I feel the same way with families who indoctrinate their kids into religion. No child is christian, muslim, hindu or part of any other religon. They have to choose that themselves when they grow up. But until then, there's nothing you can do about it.
