My Xoom came unlocked from manufacturer and its the Wifi/3G model. When I insert my T-Mobile SIM card I get nothing... Was hoping to get internet access. I've searched all over the net but couldn't find any definitive answers regarding this particular issue. Any ideas? Am I missing something?
I'm having trouble w/ the 'fastboot oem unlock' step. I get an unknown error. Please watch my video response for more details. - youtube.com/watch?v=2bROUZh7GRI
@fatdaddysnacks123 It is like a factory reset, You lose all app and when you re-download the apps you will love all the Data/Game saves that you had before.
When I type "fastboot oem unlock" i get an erro message: 'fastboot' is not recognised as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. How do I get around this? Thanks.
@flombs75 You need to go into the Adndroid sdk folder and make sure the programs "Fastboot" and "ADB" from the platform-tools folder are also in the tools folder... if they aren't you can just move or copy them into it. that should take care of that!
@iatten That has nothing to do with just unlocking the bootloader. If you have started the root process you can break the Wi-Fi that way... If thats the case, You haven't pushed the files from the Modules folder onto the xoom, or you tried to use the 3g xoom files... Send me a message on here, or twitter or my e-mail Buddhahb@yahoo.com and I will try to help you work through this...
@flombs75 Yes, The one you see e unlocking is the Wi-Fi only version... The bootloader unlock is the same on all models, The rooting is different between the two Models. Glad my videos can help!
@HBGadgetHacks Thanks for your reply. I can't seem to see what you type in the command prompt, even when I enlarge it full screen. Would there be a possibility for you to type it here? Once you unlock/root the Xoom, does it automatically mean you can use your SD card as well? One more thing, I promise, would you be able to put a video on how we could add adhoc wifi to work on the Xoom from a thetherd mobile device? If not, that's cool. Your vids are still brilliant!
@flombs75 That is my fault, I was new to the software I was using and saved the videos in the wrong aspect ratio. Sorry for that! But now I have written the commands in the description of the video and a link to the XDA thread for the unlock process.
@lliifvee It is only useful if you want to put custom roms or kernels on the device, for over clocking and things like that... Rooting also lets you run root apps like "Titanium backup" so you can back up your apps and data in the even that you change roms or have to reset your device to stock... If you will go to my channel and look for the "Top 5 Root Apps" video it will give you an idea of what root apps can do.
@realdeal1067 if your talking about the folder a dress bar... I copy the folder path, just made for less typing... sorry I may have made that more complicated than I needed to.
Just a suggestion that you could open up the command prompt by opening the android sdk folder and do a shift+right click and select "open command window here".
This way you don't have to copy the path on windows explorer and open a fresh command prompt and save a step.
says waiting for divice.. did i do something wrong.

You don't need to move the files. Read the adb_has_moved.txt. All you need to do is CD into Platform-Tools and run adb from there.

@HitmanTheGamer Not exactly, Rooting is like jailbreaking on the iPad. This is just the first step so you can root.

Or you could add it into the Windows PATH file, and then you can use "adb" from any command prompt location.
